I recently went in for a haircut, and it ended up being a really frustrating experience. I asked for a simple layered cut, but the stylist completely took it in the wrong direction. She thinned my hair way too much after I said I wanted volume, she said it was to "add texture" but now I know it's because she was trying to fix her mistake to the point where it felt uneven and way less full than before. The layers were also cut the wrong way and didn't blend at all--it just looked choppy and awkward. I tried to trust the process while I was in the chair, but once it was done, I knew something was off. It didn't frame my face right and honestly just didn't look like a professional job nothing was even. I ended up having to go to someone else to fix it, which cost me even more time and money. A haircut is supposed to make you feel better, not stressed about how to fix it after. If you're looking to walk out less happy than when you walked in, this is definitely the place to go. read more

Idk why there are bad reviews. I've been going here for years. When I try to go anywhere else the screw it up and I end up back here for them to fix it. It's best if you stick with one girl so they can get to know your hair but I've just called in day of and been able to get in every time. read more

I waited until after I got my hair fixed to post this review. I came here last week to have a few inches trimmed off, get some layers for volume and to fix my old grown out bangs. The girl was very nice, asked a lot of questions and seemed knowledgeable. I didn't get a chance to see the back of my hair before she curled it so I thought it was great because the bangs seemed great. Well two days later I washed my hair, and could finally see how uneven it was. Without the curl it looked TERRIBLE. I had asked her to round out the bottom rather than leave it straight and blunt. Somehow I didn't get layers and got a very choppy, uneven cut. I was devastated since I am very attached to my hair. I called and scheduled an appointment with another stylist here to get it fixed. The manager suggested Taylor and she did a great job! She went over with me what I wanted, and why I was upset with my last cut. She explained what she would do to fix it and told me what she was doing as she went. She rounded out the bottom, added the layers I originally wanted and still managed to keep as much of my length as possible. Apparently my bangs were slightly uneven as well so she fixed those too. Taylor's prices were higher than the originally stylist, but they only charged me the difference which was about $17. I am much happier with my hair now. Would highly recommend Taylor! read more

My husband got me a day package for the salon and I was looking forward it. It started out with a massage that was wonderful but went downhill from there. The Nail technician did a horrible job on my nails. I could have done a better job at home. My fingernails all have little bubbles all over them and she put them on so thick they are still not dry hours later so they have smudges and nicks. The makeup, brow, and hair dresser did just ok. I'll find another salon /spa for the next time. Update: they did my make up and the next day I broke out with a oouzy itch scaly rash all over my face. Not nice! I went to the doctor and they prescribed oral steroids to help heal/clear up the rash. Don't do it! read more

As I'm seeing now, many people have had the same complaints as me about this place. I had been seeing a Wendy here for a while who is WONDERFUL but wasn't currently there when I went back in a couple months ago. I decided after years and years of hating my naturally red hair to embrace it and stop with the blonde highlights and balyages and give my hair a break. I was told that it might be a two step process and I said I understood. What I wish they would've told me is that if I wanted to go fully red they'd have to bleach my hair so I should aim for a different color. Instead we said no bleach and I'd have an auburn color still. Much to my surprise the chair got turned around and I had jet black hair. Black! Instead of red. I was literally tearing up and was simply Told that's how my hair took the color and that some washes would help a bit. No one was apologetic or offering to have a color correct or anything. Same with the lady at the cash register. Instead I walked out in tears hating my new hair which is now lighter roots and veryyyyy dark brown with a hint of red glow in the right lighting. Management should be reaching out to these reviews if they care at all about their customers and their reputation!! read more

Amara is exactly where you want to be if you are into looking and feeling gorgeous and pampered. They will completely get it right. Their artists are artistic and detailed and talented in making me feel comfortable and like I got just what I wanted. Their massages are great. I did have one experience when I failed to communicate what I wanted so what they did was beautiful but just not me. When I voiced my feelings, they immediately remedied the problem with no hard feelings and no extra charge. I absolutely recommend going to them. Ask for Chelsea. We love her. Great job on my wife's hair and apparently they do men's hair as well and are pretty good at that too which was surprising since i thought being a salon was more centered towards the girls. However this is still a salon and this probably would be my first and last time here because a) its pretty expensive b) i dont go to salons as it felt too girly for my liking, this was because of lack of time and because my wife was getting her hair done and we had a ton of stuff to complete that day, i was forced to cancel my original appointment at my usual place at supercuts in sandy and go with the flow here since sandy was somewhat far and most of our work was centered around orem and lehi. They did my wife's hair and was the best i have seen her hair being done and made us both her look a very very young and thanks to amara for that. This is a spa salon and boutique all rolled into one with a pretty upscale and suave feel to it. The job done is extremely professional and no fuss with quick turnarounds from one person to another on average despite taking into account each customers uniques needs for their hair. I went in with skepticism since this was a salon and i am a guy and was the only guy in salon that day and felt really awkward. I was relieved that my hair cut came out okay but the review is more for my wife's hair and how it came out which as i said was the best i have seen her in a while and hence the 4 stars as it showed both the professionalism and expertise as well as ability to get it done in a reasonable time frame. The ambience was upscale for sure but not my type , however it is good. The place is really expensive for a hair cut and i certainly was surprised but was told by my wife that , that is what you expect if you sign up for a hair cut in a salon. Well okay! I went in to Amara day spa to fix some growth that I had. I just had a baby, my hair was falling out and I wanted to do something to help boost my confidence. I've never been to a hair salon to get my hair professionally done before, so I wanted it to be a treat. My hairdresser was nice and we had a good conversation. I thought I explained myself well in saying that I wanted to go blonde, as blonde as she could get me. I have dirty blonde hair in the first place- so it won't take a lot to get it the blonde I want. BUT I MOSTLY JUST WANTED TO FIX THE GROWTH. I told her I didn't care too much about how light it got- I just wanted the color fixed and for it all to all blend well. I told her "I want something different because I hate how it is now". I left with the same color. Maybe a few highlights. Which is NOT what I asked for. I can't tell any difference and I am sooo disappointed. I wasted $140 on nothing. I am a student who just had a baby, I can't pay another $100 to fix the salons mistake. The salon did nothing to compensate saying it's a "process". My sister has the same color hair as me and walked out blonde. My mom has the same color as me and goes in and gets PLATINUM. I DON'T GO TO SALONS. I'm writing this review for a friend of mine. Let's call him Schmorter, not Porter. DEFINITELY not for me! I'm a guy, c'mon! I don't go to salons and girly places like that! Especially not for things like getting my nose and ears waxed. If I had to do something like that (which I don't), I'd definitely use something like a blowtorch to burn it off or a gun to shoot off those pesky hairs. You know, something practical yet manly. So anyway, my friend told me that he was treated very professionally, and the nose waxing was done in record time. It didn't even hurt him (although I wouldn't have minded because I'm a man). I treated my daughter to a grown up hair cut. The website says the prices are $35+ for a haircut. I understand that long hair may cost more. She came home 2 hours later with a $75 bill. When I called to inquire, they told me that her stylist was a "Level 1" stylist with higher prices. I immediately cancelled the next appointment they made for her. She should have been told the cost. I go to a SPA (this is more like a hair salon) for a massage and pay a ridiculous amount of money in hopes to be treated really well. But instead of getting an opportunity to wait in a tranquil room, I have to sit in their waiting room (where there aren't enough seats) in the sun with the loudness of the hair salon. I don't even know if a massage room exists in this place. I have had better experiences with buying a massage on groupon than having to pay the full price here. So she said oh that's weird they booked me a bikini but I can do that! During the appointment she not only didn't pull the skin at all to wax but she waxed the same spot more than twice which is also a huge NO. I am 6 weeks PP so I was nervous about my incision so I told her to skip the top part. She finished the front then said okay get dressed and meet me out here! And she shut the door behind her before I could get a word out. By that point I was in so much pain and running late because she had also taken a long time so I got dressed and went up front. It's a store and a salon so there were people everywhere. I let them know that I scheduled a Brazilian but got a bikini and she said a bikini is what they had booked for me. I paid and left. The eyeliner looks so natural and Brin was very skilled and professional in the process - wanting to make sure that I was happy with the outcome. She was great to answer all my questions and respond to any concerns I had in making the permanent make-up decision. Poor customer service. I had to wait over an hour. The girl said at the end of the service said that she had to use extra color so she was going to charge me extra. I am a blonde and was going darker and by the end of the service my hair was almost the same color. This establishment will not take care of you if they mess up. A normal salon will try to correct themselves. This salon said they would give a refund, but instead they abused the bank process so it looked like they did, but then they let it time out so the money went back to them. Amara's a little pricey but it might be worth it.. and I WAS RIGHT! I got my haircut by Olivia, and she did it exactly how I imagined. I've never been so satisfied with a haircut in my life. I went super short, which was a huge deal for me since I had long, thick, coarse hair, but Olivia was great with it. Everyone there was also super sweet, asking if I'm okay or if I needed anything. The price wasn't too bad- I got a wash, slight neck massage, and cut for $40. Definitely will be coming here for all my future hair needs! read more

Worst salon experience ever! I had Tasha. Went in for a balayage hairstyle, was there for 4 HOURS and left with LITERALLY THE EXACT SAME hair color I walked in with. Even after complaining, nothing was done about it. $110 for nothing! They kept trying to blame it on me having dyed my hair which was well over 2 years ago and clearly back to my natural color! Maybe they should invest a little more in their product and less on the lobby's soda machine. On top of that, the blow drying process was painful with the amount of hair she kept tugging! If you know you can't do a hairstyle, don't waste someone's time or money. I'm convinced they use cheap product so they can con you into scheduling another appointment with them. Expensive (as most salons are), but a really nice place. I do think you are paying for quality so I'm okay with their prices. I've had haircuts, hair color, massages, waxing, brow tint, and lash extensions here and have never had a bad experience. The girls are all friendly and talented. I remember one particular instance I asked for a melt but got something that looked much more like highlights and they fixed it free of charge on that same day. I've worked with 4 or 5 girls there due to my irregular schedule and each one was great. I recommend Amara if you live in Utah! I moved to SLC and will probably still get my hair done there. They also have a boutique and makeup bar which is fun to browse while you are waiting or after a service. read more
