First time coming to the outdoor summer pool and we love it. Worth the price to not have to go to the ghetto $3/$5 pools like Southeast or Thompson Park. Friendly people and friendly staff. After 25 years of membership, I cancelled my membership due to decline in customer service and equipment constantly being out of service. I canceled my membership, as instructed on the last day of the month, only to be drafted on the 3rd. When I called to ask, I was told we can process a refund, but it will take 15 days. No apologies for drafting, no attempt to make it right on their end. Constant decline in the service of this gym, and then the absolute lack of sympathy for their mistake, has only solidified the decision to cancel with Amarillo Town Club. read more

Took my wife, daughters and mother-in-law to visit my family in Texas last week. My sister took us to her town club pool for swimming and fun. The facility was perfectly set up for children and safety. At the end of the day, however, I was changing in the men's room from trunks to street clothes and accidentally left my wedding ring on the sink. Someone came in and took it. As I went the the proper channels of management to supervisor for help. The person working as the leader and in charge was anything, but. There was NO show of concern or urgency from the supervisor, Austin to find out where my ring went or who took it. Fortunately, there was a life guard who made our problem, HIS! His name was Lincoln and GOD am I thankful that he was there because after about an hour and half of him going through options of where, how and who could have taken the ring...HE found it. There were over 200 people at the pool that day...Lincoln and his co life guard Addison were the ones to thank for finding my ring. ATC...if you're looking for 'real' leadership and take charge qualities...Lincoln and Addison are where you find it. Austin displayed zero leadership qualities in this situation. The last two summers we have gone to the outdoor pool on Cornell. The music is so loud you can't talk to the person next to you without shouting, the dive area is closed more than it's open, the buckets in the kiddie area are never on, and the slide was closed yesterday. Today we went to the town club on Hillside and what a delight! No loud music and all the water features worked. Why can't the Cornell site keep all the features in working order? read more

Been going to the Town Club for several years and we mostly love it. Anytime you go to a gym there will be annoying things like other people there on equipment you want to use but most people get off of it in a timely manner. I like the track upstairs and the cardio equipment is my favorite. The new treadmills are great and all are fixed now. They had a warranty issue as I understand. I use the weights and strength equipment upstairs and downstairs which helps in times when it's crowded. We try to go early afternoon to avoid the crowds and this almost always helps. We've looked at other gyms in town and even though we've moved further away we still keep going. The amenities, price and staff keep us going. Thanks for doing a great job guys! read more

We have been lied to. We were told that you had saunas and hot tub. No YOU DON'T! Why do you have 3 to 4 teens running around and when asked for assistance, you will get a grunt, rolled eye and then they point vaguely some direction in to the gym area. I've had a gym membership at one place or another since 1989, back when Ballys was king and Jane Fonda was queen. Ballys, Curves, The Q, Golds, LA Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Cosmopolitan Lady, and a few locally owned places here and there. All of them have their pros and cons, but my experience with ATC so far is that it's head and shoulders above all the others I've been. Clean. The place is CLEAN! There's always friendly staff around working on keeping the place clean and tidy, and while I can't speak for the men's locker room, the women's locker room smells, well, clean. Not like old gym socks or a gallon of bleach. Considering the whirlpool, steam room and showers are in there, that's saying something. Wide variety of options. Free weights? Check. Treadmills? LOTS, as well as a walking track on the upper level. Weight machines? More than you'll cover in an afternoon. The performance room is ideal for crossfitters and functional fitness fans, while the multi-lane lap pool and workout pool are great for the water dogs. There's also a wide variety of group exercise classes including various levels of yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba... there's even an aqua Zumba. There's 2 or 3 that cost extra, but the rest are included in the membership. Speaking of locker rooms. There are day use lockers that you just use as you need, or you can rent a locker for $10 a month and have a place to leave some stuff. Frankly I think $10 a month is a bit steep, but there's never any shortage of day use ones so it hasn't been an issue for me. The women's locker room has several counters with mirrors and hairdryers so you can put yourself back together afterwards. There are also private dressing rooms available for parents with opposite sex children, so you don't have to get changed in front of someone's gawking 6 year old son. Or daughter. Whichever. Childcare. Not something I have any use for, but if you've got carpet crickets they have childcare for you to park them at. Dress code. I asked before I joined, leery of getting into one of those "WE TOLERATE ZERO INTIMIDATION" clubs again (apparently some people find you carrying a gallon of water to be intimidating because it shames them for only having drank a quart). I was told there was no dress code. Just don't be naked. I've seen spandex, baggy sweat pants, yoga pants, flashdance tops, jeans and t-shirts, etc. I think it's great, because you can wear what's comfortable for YOU, and honestly no one is paying attention to you anyway. Trainers. IDK about any trainers that are employed through the club. My trainer is a freelancer. There are several who are available to train there tho, so just ask around. Ignore the 1 star, politically motivated reviews from people who have never been to this club and live in another state entirely. The facility is awesome, and for $40 a month (my individual membership fee) and no contracts, I think I've made a great choice with it. I see people from ALL walks of life at this club, from 18 year old athletes to 85 year old blue hairs. I see fat, thin, young, old, straight, gay, _everyone_. While I don't agree with refusing a married couple the right to get a family membership because their marriage license isn't considered legal in this state, making retaliatory reviews on Yelp isn't going to convince them to change their policy. The locals know the politics of the place and it's up to the local members to bend management's ear, not some non-membership-fee-paying hand wringers out of California. read more

They run a scam on gift certs. You get one from a family member and go in for a walk through. They activate your account and you never go back. Better cancel that thing if you don't go back...they will report you to collection for unpaid membership once your gift certificate expires. I JUST found this on a credit report from way back in 2007. Looks like ATC and their collection agency are in kahoots. I complained about a man video taping and taking pictures in the locker room. They said theyd look into it. A few days later when the discovered id gone to the police about it, they made up some BS and not only revoked my membership but, my wifes as well. (She wasnt even involved with it.) And good luck with the naked people always in the hot tub. Super unsanitary and theyre not really doing anything about it. read more

I really enjoy the town club. It has a lot to offer- classes, pools, steam room, jacuzzi, lots of treadmills, and plenty of weights! It is however always really busy. That's the only downfall for me. If you are considering ATC I would definitely recommend getting the Hillside location because that location seems to be less crowded. read more

I have never felt so disrespected like point blank have never felt this uncomfortable to go inside a place and try to workout. But thats not the reason as to why i am writing this review. I have had short hair for a good portion of my life and prefer to have my hair short thats just how i like it. I have been confused as a guy before this has never really bothered me to be honest. A member of their staff was waiting for me to come outside of the females locker room and asked me what i was doing in there because some people cant mind their business and instead of having their facts straight went and told them that there was a man in the locker room. that "man" was me i was confronted by a male he beefed his chest at me and asked me what i was doing in there when i told him because i am a woman like i have breasts and all that jazz. i have never felt so disrespected. and when taking this issue to the manager of the club Doug it was as if he wasnt interested in anything else other than making sure his club kept its good name. I do not recommend this club if you are gay or lesbian etc because this club seems like its open to all but clearly there is discrimination within those walls. Doug has no concern over anybody other than himself and his staff. So be warned if you want to go to this club if you are apart of the LGBT community as far as im concerned and what i witnessed and was put through we are NOT welcome. read more

I like ATC OK. The facilities are pretty good, but crowded during rush hours. I am going away for 3 months and wanted to cancel my membership for a time, but they just told me it takes 30 days to cancel the subscription, which bills on the first of every month. This seems like a crazy amount of time to stop billing me, so I think it's s a way to get another month's fees due to a pointless rule; I could be wrong, but it has rubbed me the wrong way. read more

IF I COULD GIVE 0 STARS I WOULD. They definitely don't accept same sex families here and it shows. My whole family was affected by this mind you guys I have a 7 year old daughter. One of the staff members which was a man beefed up to my girlfriend and asked her what she was doing in the women's restroom after we thought his actions were an honest mistake we continued to be followed and harassed by staff. When I contacted Doug at the business office he basically disregarded everything and said what do you want from me and that what I said was speculation he could have went back and watched footage but he chose not to. Also when the guy staff member got in my girlfriends face my daughter cried and was so upset. If you guys are homophobic just say it because there are families from all walks of life that are willing to PAY to be there and don't want to be singled out because they don't meet the "criteria" also I want to add that I was a member a few years before when I was single and was never harassed or bullied because y'all had no reason I was a single woman and I bet if I had a husband or boyfriend this would have never happened. Acceptable over gym. The pool area is our main reason for going but the pool area is really poorly ventilated and always has a super strong odor that permeates the entire building. We have a membership elsewhere for general gym workout availability. Otherwise, I hate it when gyms make you send a certified letter or whatever to close membership. They hillside location is ok too but fairly generic experience. We will continue to swim there for lack of a closer or better option to where we live. We have no desire to build a pool which would be way more expensive than a gym membership. read more

Worst business ethics that I have encountered in a long time from a very proud General Manager. The gym itself is under construction many times thru out the year. Thus making memberships harder to use. There are no longer grandfathered memberships. Memberships are changed without notice and much more expensive than years before. i'm a competitive swimmer. and out of all the pools i've practiced at have been ok. but this pool... is a different level. i love how the sides of the pool are ground level so it's easy to get out of and do open turns on. but the top side of the pool is metal. so you can't really do a good back start. but the blocks are the best i've ever seen. and i enjoy working out there. and also the track is great. i don't know many gyms that have weight equipment, two pools, and a track to top it off. and the locker rooms. don't get even me started. they are 10/10. the best locker rooms i've ever seen. it has many lockers and many mirrors and counters. it has exceptional showers and most importantly has a hot tub and a sauna. i absolutely love it here. and also the people that work there are super nice and greet you every time you walk in and out. read more

I was extremely disappointed to learn of Amarillo Town Club's discriminatory policy concerning families headed by same-sex couples. While I was pleased with the facilities and classes, I cannot and will not do business with an organization that has discriminatory policies toward any minority. The ATC manager hides behind an inflexible company policy, refusing to admit that the policy is discriminatory. With hindsight that the passage of time and the evolution of societal norms provide, the Amarillo Town Club will eventually come to see that it's on the wrong side of history in its treatment of same-sex couples. read more
