While visiting Amarillo, the hotel gym I had access to was not cutting it for me and my routine. In my two long stays in Amarillo, I would constantly pass by the Contagion Athletics building and consider giving it a go. Last week, through all the dust, fire, and terrible dryness that Amarillo offered me, I bit the bullet and grabbed a $20 day pass just to try it. Immediately, I knew I'd buy a membership if I lived in Amarillo. You walk inside the spacious gym to find a large turf field, plenty of strength equipment all spaced from each other where it doesn't feel like you're ass to ass with your neighbors. There is so much strength and weight equipment to use from the rigs, the plate-loaded equipment, the free weights, competition-style weight set-ups, deadlifts, and more. Plenty of cardio equipment is on hand too, including 9 StairMasters and tons of high quality treadmills. They have a small looping cushioned track that I ran 3 miles on, which felt fantastic on the feet and joints. On top of that, they supposedly offer massages, saunas, personal trainers, a cafe, a barbershop, and car detailing. To a point, you don't need to go anywhere else. I got a great workout in here and the energy is great. There are tons of windows that face Business 40 and the rest of Amarillo so you get a ton of natural light. The temperature is comfortable in there which is great because some gyms are way too hot for no reason. Lastly, the space is just beautiful. CA is open 24/7 so you can always get a workout in. Anytime I'm in Amarillo, I'll be sure to give them a visit because they are worth the price of admission. This makes any gym feel like they're playing in the minor leagues in comparison. I realized this year that in order to reach my weight goal and improve my overall health, fitness, and strength that I needed to partner with one of their coaches. I needed someone to push me beyond my comfort zone, and Coach X, who holds a Bachelor's in Sports and Exercise Science from WTAMU, has done just that! I am super excited because I am only a week and a half in, and I am already seeing results as Coach X educates me on body mechanics and as he assists me in rebuilding and strengthening my body. The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraging. They are more like Ohana than "staff." Love that the women's locker room has an inspirational Post-it quote vanity; so that as you see your reflection in the mirror, you are surrounded by all of these beautiful inspirational quotes that the women before you have left behind in order to lift others up. The gym is on the fourth floor of the Maxor Building so don't expect to see it off the street. Once inside, the staff is kind and explains the layout well. It's older but the amenities are still great. Kids care? Check! Spa room? Check! Great bathroom amenities? Check! Group fitness and free weight? Check! The best part was that I only had to pay the visitor fee for gym usage and no one tried selling me a membership. WINNING! Way to go, DAC!

Didn't need that today so I wasn't a problem, but if this were a Jim I had to regularly frequent that would be a challenge. I only saw one equipment piece that was not in working order, otherwise everything seemed to be working in this facility. The front desk staff were friendly and the bathrooms were clean. No photos as we arrived around noon time on a Thursday and it was really quite busy. I would say most of the clientele were either retired individuals or highschoolers working out in pairs.

They promote a point system that allows you to bring a guest, but when I did, the staff pressured my guest to sign up for a membership, which defeats the purpose of the guest policy. When I asked to cancel, I was told to email someone, even though I didn't have to email anyone to join. On top of that, the stairmasters are frequently broken, the bathrooms are often dirty, and most of the equipment is always in use, making it hard to get a full workout in. The front desk could definitely use some improvement. I once sat there for 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged me, so I grabbed a drink and paid later when someone finally showed up. Long story short, I've canceled my membership. The only upside? The music is good.

It's a mix of bags, ring, and then mix of burpees high knees and etc. The actual gym is somewhat small. There is no calf equipment, and just the basics are there. The gym gets super hot from the body heat from the classes, so it's guaranteed that you'll get a good sweat on if you go to workout there. The daycare situation is okay, I think the hours are longer than most. However the daycare is just some tables chairs and a TV I have and seen people donating stuff to the daycare to give the children something to do or play with, but they keep the toys locked up. They do have their own brand of merchandise, so tons of clothes and hats. They also do have pre workout, and fat burners.
