Kudos to Southampton Animal Shelter, which provided support to me after my initial phone call to GSAR was met with "it's my day off," "it's summertime in the Hamptons" and me pressing them for an action plan. Others have pointed out- it is $600 per dog for a transport sponsor & $600 per dog for adoption fee. That is $1200 per dog when medical care is down south and they have no physical location in New York. The dogs come straight from South Carolina and are delivered to a parking lot in NY to go right home with their foster or adopter. The owner does not meet the dogs. I should've listened to others when they told me this!

He was so ill he needed hospitalization and emergency veterinary care. My vet said if we'd waited another 12 hours, he'd be dead. Those parasites destroyed his immune system and gut health and he is now allergic to everything......he's allergic to beef, chicken, lamb, fish, milk, dairy, wheat, rice, basically anything you'd actually feed a dog. We've spent about 15 thousand dollars treating his ailments ranging from eye infections, skin infections, fungal infections, you name it. He requires very expensive vet food and needed a fecal transplant to try to fix his gut health. His allergies cause him to break out in itchy sores that eventually become infected and ulcerated. I don't believe they took good care of this dog in the rescue facility and they gave him to me when he was very sick. We will never give up on him.
