We had no idea there would be a buffet until we arrived. We decided to try both the buffet and order entrées so we could really compare and rate the food. The buffet started about 30 minutes later than what we later found was listed on their Facebook page, and the staff didn't seem to know what would be served, so we could just move forward with our entrée. The drinks were fresh, and the food was clearly made fresh too, but having eaten Middle Eastern food in Iraq and Turkey, I was hoping for a bit more spice and depth. The service could definitely improve -- especially communication and friendliness. The young lady serving us came off standoffish, while the younger gentleman who seated us was kind and welcoming but seemed out of the loop. We live about 30 minutes away up on Mt. Bethel and had lost power earlier that day, so we were dressed more for warmth after trick-or-treating -- maybe that's why we felt like we weren't being fully "trusted" customers. We spent almost $200.00 with tip for 4 people. Prices are great! That was 2 buffets, 2 kids meals, a starter and two entrées and 6 drinks. Great Indian food in the Easton area if you're craving! The service was good and our waiter was very attentive and sweet when it came to our table because we were fasting for Ramadan. We ordered vegetable pakoras and it came out earlier than we were going to eat so he put it in the oven and when the food came out they gave us new fresh ones. The ambiance is really nice, definitely a good date night spot! For appetizers we tried the vegetable pakoras which were delicious on their own or with the sauces. For entrees we got the malai kofta, chicken tikka masala, and vegetable fried rice accompanied with garlic cheese naan and butter naan. I will have to say the garlic cheese naan was a bit disappointing, I was expecting pull apart cheese bread situation but it was just very garlicky and not very cheesy. For dessert we had the vegan mango pistachio gelato in collaboration with Bank Street Ice cream and it was AMAZING. I literally wanted to buy a tub to bring home (please consider this). Thought we'd take a ride out to P'burg and try out Amasi on a slightly off hour on Sunday. Very nice folks, greeted and shown to our table promptly. Obviously a family operation, with everyone trying their best to please. Warned they were a bit short handed with another family member standing in. Appetizers and dinners came out nicely presented, but timing was off as they came out almost simultaneously. Forgivable, given the off hour which throws off the cadence in the kitchen. Server checked in on our satisfaction, and we were positive in our response. Beef shishkabob was advertised as filet mignon which ordered medium rare, tasty, but probably not filet, nor cooked medium rare, but far better than standard. Wife's roasted eggplant dinner was as expected. The Jordanian twist on preparation and spices were different than Lebanese, and not quite to our taste, but had no bearing on the quality of the food. I would say if you want to be a bit adventurous, and want a different twist on Med food, go here. The amount of regulars are a testament to the quality and friendly service at Amasi. The food here is great. The people are very friendly. But do not go for the buffet unless you go as soon as the food if put out. I ate from the menu once before and I loved the food. I came in for the buffet this past Sunday around 8:30pm and everything was cold. We were told they would bring out fresh food but we only got the fried side foods. The leg of lamb and the rice (which ate the main dish) was not replaced. I was not very happy paying over $55 for fried sides. No more buffet for me unless I arrive at 3pm when the food is just put out. I recommend this restaurant... but stay away from the buffet if when you arrive the food is cold. read more

Wow, this restaurant is excellent in food, cleanness and service. My son and I were looking for a place to have lunch at and as we driving slow on Rte 22 I spotted the "middle eastern food" sign open and decided to give it a try. As soon as we walked we were welcome by beautiful lady Guenevere. She made our first experience feel great. The food was amazing. The look, the taste, the temperature and amount of portions are right on point. Spacious and clean. Prices are fair. I will definitely come back again and recommend it highly. On a whim with snow falling down my family decided to have lunch at this new restaurant in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Having never sampled Middle Eastern food I must say what we ordered was delicious and made to order as our waitress Guinvere stated. The family ordered lamb shank, shish kebab, and mansaf plus baklava for dessert. Because of the quality of the meals we returned the plates "clean". I just want to thank Guinevere for her guidance in navigating the menu and her wonderful nature which enhance the meal. read more

I was disappointed when I found out that Makoto closed and that there was no longer any Japanese restaurant here however I was pleasantly surprised by this new middle eastern restaurant that opened in its place. The nice young waitress who recommended the kabob to me was very friendly and attentive. I don't come out to Phillipsburg often, but when I do I'll come back here again. The salad with and middle eastern rice with sliced almonds were also delicious. They even sell some middle eastern antiques. read more

There are small portions for high prices at $21 dollars for rice and some marinated grilled chicken cubes, maybe 6-8 oz worth of meat, small slice of a shrivel grilled veg. I had this dish many places many times and enough to know that plate doesn't warrant the charge. The quality and flavor of meat tasted okay, the rice was a bit overwhelmed with a taste fragrant. Over the top was chopped parsley on my plate, never saw that much because there shouldn't be. Food did take a while to get, loud music and people, found our service dotted, including water refills a struggle. The bathrooms hate to say smelly, with one out of order, another had wads of paper backed up in it, also didn't work, where someone there likely had to deal with that sh*t. Food was good and I thought the portions were decent. I had the Shawarma platter which is not the dish you would get at Halal Guys but more like a panini but it was so delicious! This is a great addition to the area. The menu is expansive and slightly more exotic, which I love. My husband and I went here for a late lunch here and thoroughly had a great experience. The decor, while minimalistic, was very warm and zen. The tables were spaced farther apart than normal, giving off a more intimate vibe. Loved the floor-length black out curtains. We were greeted by a kind and sweet young lady who promptly helped us and steered us toward great menu choices. We started with labneh decorated with olive oil and herbs. It was served with deliciously freshly made pita. Yum. My hubby had a combo plate of kebab, shish kebab, and BBQ chicken over fresh. I had the Mansaf, lamb meat cooked in jameed (tangy yogurt sauce) served with rice in a paper thin pita. The portion size was perfect. Even had leftovers. Honestly, everything is very delicious. Wow! What a welcome addition to restaurant choices in Phillipsburg, which, let's face it, is a food desert if you are looking for something other than pizza, hot dogs and steal sandwiches. Amasi offers delicious Mediterranean dishes with a specific focus on Jordan. Oooh the home-cooked specialties! The kebabs! The appetizers! The salads! Our group of four enjoyed the BBQ chicken lunch plate, the falafel, the Arabic salad and the magluba--an interesting rice dish with chicken and sundry veggies--and that's a new me for me. Yum! The ambiance is appealing. It's a huge space, open and filled with light. Comfy chairs and tables, and interesting photography on the walls. There's also an outside patio with tables and umbrellas that I look forward to enjoying when the weather is better.
