Escape rooms, puzzles, and games are one of my kinks. What can I say, I love me some adrenaline and competition. The two of us went to the Amazing Escape Room in Green Brook for the first time. It's located in a shopping plaza on Route 22 with plenty of parking available. They have 5 different rooms to choose from with varying levels of difficulty. All rooms are private so it's just you and your party - no strangers. You book a room and time slot on their website. It's $33 per person with a maximum of 8 people. There's a $3 booking fee per person as well as state tax. One major con is that they have a 4 person minimum on weekends (Friday 3pm-Sunday 3pm). You can still play with less than 4 people, BUT you're going to have to pay a flat rate of $132 no matter what. I'm not a fan of that at all. Our reservation was for 5pm on Saturday. We were greeted by Erick, who was also our gamemaster. He checked us in and explained all of the rules. We did the Illusionist (magician theme), which had a 40% escape rate. You have one hour to escape. The room wasn't anything fancy or high-tech like some other ones, but still very creative and challenging. It was dim, so we had to use our phone flashlights at times. Erick was very helpful, patient, and had great communication with us during the entire game! You get 3 clues that are provided on a screen. He gave us bonus hints when we were struggling, which we appreciated. He even extended our time by a few minutes. For the most part, I thought that the puzzles and clues flowed well together. We wasted too much time on one puzzle that could have been executed better, but oh well! Sadly, we did not escape... we were 3 challenges away :( It was still a lot of fun! They do offer 50% off if you want to try the same room another time as a redemption. After you play, you can take photos in front of their backdrop with funny props. If you're looking for a fun team-building activity, I definitely recommend escape rooms! Just choose the right people and don't lose your cool ;) read more

Fairly good escape room. We were in the middle of the last challenge which we had already solved when the staff walked in 1min early, so I'm going to count it as an escape. Pros: -quite a few different challenges in the room -they provide the clues on a screen which is helpful. Some rooms verbally deliver clue and I can't always hear -lots of parking Cons -they have quite a few things that look like clues but are not part of the game (like padlocks that serve no purpose). They do tell you upfront that stuff which has a pink sticker is not part of the game but we all forgot that by the time the action started, so we blew a lot of time read more

Looking for a little adventure? This spot's your ticket out! I've broken out of their rooms with family, kids, and friends, and every time's been amazing! The fact that they charge per participant and not a flat rate to reserve the whole room makes it perfect for any size group. Excellent and friendly staff not only monitors your progress- they become part of it by wearing costumes, using props, and delivering an acted intro that makes you get into the theme. With a wide range of challenges (locks, combos, patterns, placement, and more), you stay constantly engaged at any age. It's such a great time! 0 Stars - Absolutely terrible experience. Avoid this place. I went full on Karen today and I do not regret it. This business is a train wreck from top to bottom. I booked the "Prison Room" this morning for 1:20 p.m. for my older kids (9 and 6) and me. They were so excited. This was our big "day off" activity since their younger sibling was in school and we rarely get to do things like this. We ran errands, drove 20 minutes to Green Brook, and arrived right on time for our big activity of the day. The employee, John, told me the room we booked was "medium level." He admitted that this information is not listed anywhere on the website and suggested we try an easier room instead because of the kids' ages. That easier room would be ready in about 20 minutes, so we thanked him and decided to wait. Twenty-five minutes later, John told me he was getting it ready, only to return and say, "Oh, someone is trying to book it online right now. I should have blocked it off for you... I need to see if they complete the booking before I can let you in." What??? Well... They did. He shrugged and said there was nothing he could do because "they already paid." I told him that I also already paid, hours ago, and that we had been sitting there waiting for that room at his suggestion. I told him to call them, explain it was an error and the room isn't actually open, and offer them a different room. I actually heard him call and tell the other group that another customer wants that room but they could keep it if they wanted since they already paid. Unsurprisingly, they kept it. My six year old could have handled it better. Absolutely incompetent! After sitting there for almost an hour, John informed me that now my only options were to come another day or try the "hard" or "super hard" rooms. When I said this was unacceptable, he just repeated, "They already paid." Over and over. I could not believe this was real life. By that point my kids were so upset and I could not listen to him say "they already paid" one more time. His ineptitude was beyond frustrating. So yes, I went full Karen and asked for a manager. Manager Pablo got on speakerphone and offered free passes to come back another day. I was furious and don't plan to go back, but he was clearly not going to fix John's mistake so I said fine, as long as I also got a refund ASAP since we never actually got to do anything today. His response? "It's one or the other." How is that a free pass if I do not get refunded for today? He reluctantly agreed to both after more back and forth. Still reeling from how ridiculous this all was, I asked John for the owner's information. He gave me the number for Greg, the district manager. When we left I called Greg, and somehow it got even worse. He told me that John never should have switched us because the "easy" room is done in the dark and the "medium" one we originally booked is in the light, so actually more age appropriate. So not only did John give us bad advice, but we wasted our entire day because of it. When I told Greg how angry I was about John and how absurd my conversation with Pablo had been, he said I must have misunderstood Pablo since "English is not his forte." That was incredibly insulting, both to me and to his own manager, because Pablo's English was perfectly clear. Then Greg got defensive and told me I was just calling to complain, that John was trying to help, and that I should have just done the room I booked in the first place. The same room his employee told me not to do. From top to bottom, this place is a joke. A completely mismanaged operation run by people who clearly have no clue how to run a customer-facing business. Save yourself the aggravation and go literally anywhere else. read more

This was a lot of fun and place was great. J 1 hour went by pretry fast. ohn who helped us was awesome and patient too. He was put to rest when my kids dropped the tick tack toe magnet. The magnet came out which must have been annoying but he managed to keep his cool. read more

We've been here twice and each time has been a wonderful experience. We've had the same gentleman explain everything to us both times and he's amazing. I feel terrible because I cannot remember his name! The game themes are pretty complex but not impossible. The jail break is great to do with friends because you split into teams at first. The game masters are great at keeping track of you and either providing clues when requested or offering them when we look desperate or are very close but stuck on something. They never make it too easy though. Definitely check them out! read more

We had a blast doing the Illusionist as a family! It was just the perfect level of challenge for our family, even our 6 year old was able to help some of the clues. Zariah was an excellent game master, she gave us plenty of time to figure stuff out in our own but was super fast with a hint when needed!!! She made the whole experience top notch!! read more

We had Taylor and Pablo as our game masters. They weren't very observant as we went through the room. It took too long to get clues. At one point the game screen broke down and they took a long time to come in the room and reset the screen and help us. We did the Prison Break room. The clues weren't very logical. Some we would've never figured out without clues. We didn't make it out of the room in time. Even as the clues were explained to us they didn't make sense and one wire needed was broken. We all felt like the game master didn't care to make the experience for us. Very disappointed in this experience. We went two weeks ago and it was much better read more

This was a fun activity for my husband and I for our 10th anniversary. We solved the dragon egg puzzle with just under 3 minutes to spare!

Amazing Escape Room is conveniently located on Route 22 West in Greenbrook. Very easy to get to but according to the site you shouldn't use Waze; instead use Google maps as Waze takes you to the wrong place. I booked through Groupon instead of the website and saved close to half off our booking. Once we arrived, we scanned the QR code and filled out release forms for everyone over age 18. We originally chose the Pirate room but after realizing it had an extremely high difficulty level with only 3% escaping, we switched to The Illusionist room where our chances of escaping were much higher. Emma was awesome! She explained the rules, restrictions and details of the game and let us loose in the room. She quickly gave us clues as we asked for them and even gave us a few extra minutes at the end when she saw how close we were to getting out. I've been to escape rooms in NY and even in Greece but I must say I had the most fun here and I was so pleased to finally crack the code and win! Definitely recommend and I'll definitely be back to try their other rooms! read more

The entry room is very cool looking, and the staff was very polite and friendly. The Magic Room - very cool backstory, many more secrets, traps, locks than I expected. The hints were helpful but not overly explicit. We successfully solved the room and are eager to try another room sometime soon. read more

Our game manager was very rude and disrespectful. He blamed us for breaking something that we didn't even break. He made us pay for it against our will. Edit: Actually, in discontinuity of the managers reply below, the manager demanded that we must pay the 27 dollar fee to replace the broken prop. Also, the object broke while being used for its intended purpose to pull a lever. The part that was quote "hidden" was placed above a door frame in plain sight in order for it to not further break. We alerted the staff the second it broke and after the escape room. The use of it as a makeshift bat did not result in it being damaged any further. Thank for you the brisk reply. read more

Left pretty disappointed. One prop wasn't working properly (safe) and despite entering the correct code did not open. We asked for clues and were directed to get the code we already had. We kept trying and pointed out the code we had to the host. Eventually he came in with a key (which was the wrong key and he had to go get another one). He finally got it open. No apology at that time. It took more than 9 minutes from the time we entered it to when he finally got it open. Clock wasn't stopped and no extra time added on. He said he would have but there was another reservation right after us. Such a bummer to not even get to try anything bunch of the puzzles. Went here with a group of 4 for a birthday celebration and was a great time! We did the Heist room which was intimidating with a 15% success rate, but we completed with 8 minutes left. Our clue giver, Gwen, was super helpful without giving us the answer. Would absolutely go back to check out the other rooms! read more
