I would title this review "Mansion room: Not for the olds or newbies. Bring a magnifying glass and leave your sense of fun at home". I went with a group of 8 (2 of whom had never been to an escape room before). My husband and I have done about 10 escape rooms, we've made it through some, not made it through some, but we always have fun. Very little fun was had here at Escapology Holmdel. The mansion themed room left me disappointed, frustrated, and with a group of friends who will probably never do another escape room night out again. The first challenge was that my group is all in their early 50s and we are all starting to need readers. We all brought them but the type on everything was so tiny and wee, and the lighting so dark, that we spent a large part of our time just actually trying to read the clues vs. solve them. I like a clue that is difficult because you have to think around corners and you get that jolt of excitement that you figured something out, not difficult because you're doing a bunch of math and you transposed a number or you have to read through tons of lines of print. We had unlimited clues but our game attendant's clues were so rarely helpful (because we were making math and reading mistakes trying to read off endless lists of numbers) that we just gave up. We took up a huge amount of time thinking we hadn't solved a puzzle, when on two separate occasions we HAD but the instructions on the math were unnecessarily confusing and the person trying to read the words we needed got ONE wrong out of like 12. 40 minutes in I was done and just wanted it to be over. I get the impression that this room is for the escape room die hards that do lots of escape rooms and Hunt a Killer, and are very familiar with all of the tricks and cryptic codes so the creators had to add in a lot of extra work to slow them down and stump them. If you are not one of those people, mind the difficulty levels. If you are not under 40, bring a magnifying glass and a headlamp. read more

Escapology in Holmdel is an awesome place to spend some time with friends, family, etc. Myself and my family have done multiple rooms at this specific location and they're awesome! Today we successfully escaped "Mayday" the airplane themed room. Definitely got us thinking! Our game master was awesome. (I unfortunately can't remember his name.) Came here about a year and a half ago as a 'get-to-know-you-more' activity early on dating my partner and we're coming back here! From booking to arrival to finish, the process is very organized. The room itself was challenging, but not so challenging that it was undoable for 2 people. We did the Mayday room, and although we did not make it out, we were short of figuring out one puzzle. The room was clean and the puzzles were challenging and fun. I'm excited to come back and try their other rooms. This location is nice since it's in Bell Works and you can walk around there before and after your time, leaving plenty to do. read more

Party of 20 came in last minute to escape the room, where half of us were children under 5. Anyone with young kids know that it's impossible to be anywhere on time, so even though we were about 40min past the intended starting time... the staff was super helpful about rescheduling us and letting us start whenever we were ready. The lobby area is pretty spacious with comfortable couches, and the rooms were simple but immersive. We purposely chose two of the easier ones (The Antidote and Budapest Express), and both parties were able to escape, despite multi-tasking as parents. The Antidote might have been a bit TOO immersive as the older girls were scared. The staff was attentive with the clue giving & walked us through parts that were known to be difficult. Doors were unlocked the whole time in case young ones needed a potty break in between. It was great to find an activity that we could enjoy for ourselves and with kids! It was also nice being in the Bell Works metrohub that we could make an evening out, exploring shops & eats, and running around the bit spacious place. I plan to come again! read more

The room was outdated and run down. Pertinent clues were so withered it caused us to lose time and almost lose the game. It's unfortunate because the themes were fun and the staff was friendly. read more

(visited April 2021) Kids (8 and 3) and I had a great time doing Mayday, the one that takes place inside Air Force One. Game was immersive and challenging (in a clever, not frustrating way), cleaning protocols were on point, and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The lobby and check-in experience were also pretty classy, definitely a cut above most escape rooms out there. And of course, the Bell Works location is a can't-miss architectural landmark with decent ice cream. read more

My husband, our friend and I tried out first escape room with Escapology in Holmdel (in the beautiful Bell Works building) a couple of weeks ago - it won't be our last! We tried Lost City. We didn't make it out in time but it didn't matter - it was fun! The room was challenging, interesting and immersive. Our Host Matt and Game Master Santino made it all that much more of an enjoyable visit. I highly recommend giving Escapology a try if you're looking for something fun and different to do. read more

This was the first escape room I've done since the pandemic, as well as the first time doing one at this location. It seemed like they were taking proper precautions by only having private groups and sanitizing between games. My group did Mansion Murder and managed to successfully complete it in time. Everyone enjoyed the experience and we plan to go back soon to try another room! read more

My boyfriend and I had such a great experience doing the Vegas Hangover escape room (even though time ran out), that we brought my parents and sister back to try their first escape room with us (Murder Mansion). They adhered extremely well to COVID protocols and we felt comfortable and safe from the moment we walked in. (Ron is also just so infectiously upbeat that it was easy to remember him each time we came back!) We will certainly be back for the Mayday room once it opens! read more

Been to the Escapology in Garwood and Holmdel is similar (minus the rooms). Good experience at both. Just had an issue with the Game Master Cameron. She gave us the wrong hints at the last possible second that we ended up not escaping. Clearly was not paying attention to where we were at the game. She gave us "hints" that we already knew and solved. The only unpleasant and disappointing thing when doing the Mayday Room. Thanks Cameron for nothing. read more

Had two very positive experiences at Escapology, Holmdel! For the first, I brought my parents to play Mayday. We did not make it out in time, though the staff were very generous with clues and even walked us through what we missed at the end. For the second, my friend and I showed up late for Lost City because I misread our start time, but we were allowed to go right in and not made to feel rushed. We completed the room with time to spare and felt that, due to the variety of puzzles, we each had the chance to contribute. I can't wait to go back and try another one! read more

I have never done an escape room before, so I wasn't sure what to expect when we first came. The staff was very friendly when we came in and answered any questions we had as well as explaining the protocols set in place due to COVID. The first room I did with my two friends was the vegas hangover one, let's just say we shouldn't have done a difficult one as our first. Regardless we still enjoyed our experience and actually came back the next day. The same worker, Daniela, was there and she took us to the second room when we were back. I really appreciated how sweet they were and it's definitley very helpful that you get three hints. We even got a bracelet for getting out of the Antidote room. Booked a couple of rooms for my step-daughter's 13th birthday. Wonderful staff and the kids had a blast. They have a little party room and we could watch the kids on closed-circuit tv while they figured out their escape. Highly recommend. read more

This place was so much fun! My brothers and I did the Mayday game and the attention to detail in the story and the decor was truly magnificent. The hour flew by because of how interested we all were in solving the puzzles. The staff, Carlee and Faith, made the experience even better with their positive and supportive attitudes -- such gems!
