At the time of this review, my dad and I had taken 6 weeks of guitar lessons with Ben. He's an amazing instructor and really drills on making sure we have good form when playing to prevent overstraining our arms/hands causing unnecessary pain. Ben is extremely knowledgeable and able to communicate new concepts in multiple different ways to reinforce learning. I greatly appreciate his patience and friendliness towards my dad (these lessons are mostly for him to pick up guitar again). I had been meaning to get piano lessons for my oldest for a while and when I found Ben's ad on Yelp I sent him a message. He responded quickly and was able to fit us in at a time which worked perfectly for the both of us. He is very patient with my daughter and she has shown so much improvement over such a short amount of time. I can't believe how quickly she is picking things up and enjoying playing. She constantly makes up new songs throughout the day, adding to them and seems genuinely interested in continuing. He even likes to help her create new music to keep her interested. We originally chose Ben because of the good reviews and also because he was willing to come to our house for lessons, which is a huge convenience factor for us. Since then, my daughter has been taking lessons with Ben for about a year. She is doing so great- and has learned so much. When our friends hear her play they cannot believe she's only been taking lessons for a year. He's always really positive and encouraging and adapts the lesson to her learning style and music interests. Very early on he also started teaching her to play Für Elise, though it was beyond a new player's skill level but it's such a recognizable song she was really encouraged she could play parts and it helped boost her confidence early on. Ben is hands down the best piano teacher my daughter has ever had. He faithfully comes to our home every week, on time and ready to teach. He is patient, extremely knowledgable and kind, and our daughter loves learning the piano because of who he is as a teacher. He got to know her and what motivates her and teaches to her strengths and preferences, as well as holding her accountable to learn the essentials. It is not a "one size fits all" teaching method with Ben. He even takes the time to teach her life lessons. Ben has an amazing musical gift, but more than that, he has a beautiful heart for people and that comes through his teaching. Ben was great during our first lesson, so we hired him to continue instruction for the boys. He emphasizes good technique from the beginning, and incorporates elements of theory every step of the way so his students have a deeper understanding of what they're doing. Placing focus from the beginning on correct technique and breaking of bad habits was very important to me, so when I saw how well he managed this, I was very impressed.
