After every practice, he sent thoughtful, detailed notes that were such a joy to read. He always highlighted our son's progress, spoke so positively about his potential, and made it clear that he truly cared about helping each student grow. Those updates meant so much to us as parents. The owner, Michael, is also wonderful to work with. He's incredibly hands-on, approachable, and genuinely invested in the success of both the students and the program. You can tell he pours his heart into creating a positive experience for every family. We also had the pleasure of interacting with Lex and Ally, and they were just as amazing--friendly, helpful, and always willing to answer questions or lend a hand. We're so grateful for the entire School of Rock team for making this such a positive and memorable experience. If you find it's hard to get your child to practice music at home, you'll also know how nearly impossible it is when traveling. In the past I have contacted music schools, rented instruments, and even bought a keyboard and hardcase. Each of these solutions created its own problem from the school that said we could use any open practice room only to be barged in on by a very pissed off nine-year old who insisted we were using "her" piano, to having to returned to a music store for parts missing from the keyboard we rented, to having to pay a hefty additional fee to the airline for the oversized instrument case. By good fortune I found Dodge Music when planning our trip to Phoenix. Miciah made it easy to arrange and pay for practice space but the best part was the studio itself, a nicely furnished and impeccably clean room with a well-tuned baby grand. Sure beat the shoebox sized and airless practice rooms that we had to put up with in the past using console pianos that were on their last leg. Miciah was friendly, obliging but never intrusive and let my son get on with his practice as soon as we stepped in. An added bonus was Miciah's dog Gizmo, a very gentle, short-hair dog who would hang out with us. My son is very allergic to animal dander but both the house and Gizmo were almost antiseptically clean (compare my house anyway). My son didn't have any problems with his allergies and Gizmo was a welcomed lesson companion. Even though my son wasn't taking lessons from Miciah, I can say with confidence that his studio exude a relaxed atmosphere where one can readily focus on lessons. When you rent/buy a musical instrument they offer a free lesson on it. My son was immediately comfortable with his teacher. When school starts, the lessons will place him at a higher skill level. Rhapsody Music also offers a summer curriculum camp which we will likely do next year. My son wanted to check out regular lessons first.

Started taking lessons with Brett 18 years ago when I was 13 years old, and have to say, I learned…read moremore from him than any teacher on my musical journey. He prepared me for numerous auditions spanning from rock and jazz bands to drumlines and performance groups. He inspired me to push myself harder and it ended up paying off ten-fold. A few examples of my successes due to Brett include making the tenor line on the ASU drumline as a freshman, becoming a paid musician as part of PHX percussion (Phoenix Suns Drumline), working as a touring musician in a band throughout my early 20's including gigs on the Warped Tour and multiple national tours and preparing me for teaching opportunities at Ironwood and St. Mary's High Schools. To say Brett had a profound influence on my life would be an understatement. He can give you the tools, it depends on how the student chooses to use them. I do see one negative review referencing his teaching style. Brett provides one-hour sessions, sometimes with multiple students of the same skill level, which gives you an opportunity to work through complicated rhythms during the lesson rather than getting a crash course in 30 minutes like most other instructors. He is as hands on as you need him to be. This was the only environment that I felt I actually learned in rather than going home and teaching myself. Still to this day, I go in and take occasional lessons with Brett to help me continue to develop different styles and expand my knowledge base. I recommended my brother start taking my nephew in to start his journey in drums with him when he turned 8 and I will definitely be taking my children in someday (if I have them in time before he retires)! To summarize, if you want to get kick ass at drums, go see Brett.

My daughter had such a good time that we all had to take the fall semester of classes. My daughter is an observer, and even just after 5 classes she has started to come out of her shell, interact, shake her instruments and sit in the front for Miss Lindsay's classes. It has definitely been a great experience for her and myself. With the price of classes you get a music book and two cds with songs from that semester. Pop goes the weasel is now one of Abby's favorite songs and she loves to listen to the cd when we go places in the car. We definitely recommend Melodies and Me!
