Made a reservation for 4 people 3 weeks in advance. Give yourself at least 5 minutes to find parking in the area. From the outside you'd never tell there was a swanky place inside. We came to enjoy drinks and the food. They had 4 options for mockails, sweet, floral, sour, and fruity (hope I remembered those correct). Tried the sour and really enjoyed it! The rest of the group also loved their cocktails. All very unique but curated to still be well balanced. Our server Daniel was very nice, attentive, and helpful. We ordered two pizzas, margarita and pistachio and wow were they delicious. The sauce was the star. I wish I could take jars home. Fresh, acidic, salty, just yum. We also ordered the guacamole that was really tasty and the caprese salad that was lovely as well. WOW is this place cool! You have to walk behind the neighboring taco place and through what feels like someone's back patio to find the door. This hidden gem is sultry, dark, moody, mellow, and absolutely fantastic. Make a reservation! We didn't have reservations but found a seat at the bar. We were lucky because the tiny place filled up fast. The cocktail menu is incredibly intricate, unique, fresh, and delicious ...you will not be disappointed. We went for the ceviche and the guac and the pistachio pizza. All wonderful...especially the pizza! My first thought is Amazonia is Not as good as what it used to be. I've come here 3-4 times and bought many friends and family members here. I won't be recommending it anymore. Nothing on the menu last night on 5/24 blew us away like it did when Amazonia first opened. First, the chicken tinga and guac did not come with tostada like the menu said it would. It came with Tostitos chips. Also The consistency of the tinga was off, less chunky and more pasty. The Guac lacked seasoning, I was disappointed. My mom said the buratta pizza missed the mark, lacked a lot of flavor or balsamic, had little meat and that the pizza dough wasn't fully cooked. Every aesthetic detail about the decor Is thought out but more effort needs to be put toward making the food more tasty. read more

The ambiance and location is extravagant. Tough to find but I think that makes it all more appealing. Definitely need reservations as its not many tables inside and a smallish bar when you walk in. The outside patio looks cool and I'm sure is nice but its seasonal and it was cold the night we went. I like how intimate it is. the wait staff is dressed in suits and ties and waitresses wearing nice formal wear. The servers were very friendly. As for only the 3 star rating, the specialty made cocktails come with a great story and concept but also a very high price and some very bad flavored drinks. If you want strong bold flavors of bourbon or whiskey or rum then you might enjoy them but 3 out of 4 of ours were extremely rough to drink. They look gorgeous though. Now with the food. The menu is very small, the sizes are very small. You need to order a few small plates to make equal an actual dinner meal. The price tag is high and I don't think the food was worth it. We all ordered a pizza to share so we can try 4 different pieces. After hearing the owner lived in Italy, we thought the food would be delicious. The results were very poor. The Burrata pizza was almost inedible. No flavor. Extremely doughy. Not many toppings, besides the burrata, The spicy salami was better but still lacked a kick. Toppings fell off, Raw dough as well. sauce extremely messy and dripping. The 3rd one was the "pineapple" pizza made our own style Not many pineapples, real loose and floppy. A speakeasy in the heart of Lakewood? Say less! Amazonia easily lived up to the hype surrounding it. I'm a little embarrassed to say how long it took us to find the door, but once we found it, we were transformed into a dark soothing safari like journey. Our server was pretty hilarious and while I appreciate the little story they tell at the beginning of the night, it did make me laugh. We were seated in the upstairs area, which lends to a better conversation over dinner, but I think the first floor is where you truly become immersed into the experience. Best kept secret for West side cocktails. Think jungle, thick and dark with pumas and leopards roaming free under the deep green canopy. The menu is full of mysterious witch doctor cocktails. Surprisingly well thought out. This isn't your ordinary list of spirits. Superior crafted combos of sweet and bitter that will please any discerning palate. I started with Heads Will Roll because I wanted the headhunter mug! Such a surprise. With each sip the aroma of the smoked sage sprig and flower added to the overall taste with a subtle brush of jungle night. The blackberry and lemon was just enough to balance out the bourbon and bitters for a spicy not too sweet mix. Expert presentation! I also ordered the Ceviche and it did not disappoint. Attractively presented. Fresh and tangy. I could have eaten two! This is a fantastic date night spot. They have seating in two rooms upstairs as well The Sun Room and The Moon Room. Coolest vibe of any restaurant I've been to in Cleveland. Really enjoy that aspect of it. What I didn't love were the dirty water glasses, dirty plate with food crumbs and a dirty napkin. I think they need to turn the lights up to see what is dirty and what is not. Cocktails are fancy and very unique. You pay for it but if you are going for one or two it's worth it. Food is interesting. My cousin ordered a Caprese salad and it was like 10 tomatoes and some cheese in a small bowl. She said it was good but was disappointed by the size. The pizzas were a good size to split. My wife ordered the mushroom soup and loved it. Our server was attentive and the food and drinks came out in a reasonable time. If I had clean dishes I would likely bump it up a couple stars but seeing that made me not want any food there for myself so I skipped eating there. Like no other. Bathroom I could almost live in. Art abounds. Drinks are the raison d'etre. Yup, a page dedicated to each of their special drinks. Point here is, order from one of their specially-made drinks first. Ahhhh. The food? I hate mushroom soup, but I order theirs a lot. My friends have had their pizzas (big, gorgeous pizza oven), sandwiches, and other interesting items. My favorite is the beef tacos. Finally Lakewood has a speakeasy! Absolutely gorgeous inside; the entire room when you walk in is bathed a calm n sensual red glow. The bartenders are so sweet and friendly and incredibly knowledgable. My partner had the poison dart frog and a manhattan and I had The flora & fauna and the jungle cat. However, after only an hour (my husband had not yet even finished his second $16 dollar cocktail) the server came over and told us we had to leave. She explained they were very busy and the table was needed for the next guest! This was a Saturday night and we HAD a reservation. We were shocked. An HOUR. The manager then came over and said we could stay another 10 minutes. We weren't causing trouble or making noise - just sitting, trying to enjoy a cocktail. Had very high hopes for Amazonia based on the reviews/ website/ and recommendation so decided to try it last Friday. Set in a neigborhood among houses with a nice patio and good vibe inside. Waitresses were very friendly and told us about the drinks they were serving as we were seated on the patio. Good service to start. Ordered 3 dishes, pizza, and house cocktails. 5 star start but slowly eroded my first impresssion. Pros and Cons (1-5) star: FOOD (3) Chicken Tinga(3)large portion but not as flavorful as others i've tried/a bit bland Ceviche- (4) Shrimp, not fish, but still very tasty Anticuchos- (4 or 1.5)- Two Wood fired chicken skewers with drizzle of sauce on the plate. Wife liked it a lot, but when I took a skewer from the plate an over zealous waiter (not ours) literally ran by, grabbed the main plate (with the sauce, etc.) and disappeared around the corner as I tried to ask him not to remove it . I was left with a very dry but well seasoned chicken skewer. The actual busboy asked and was very polite when removing plates, etc - so kudos to him. Margherita Pizza(3) - Good solid wood fired pizza, but nothing special DESSERT (4.5) -Only one-blackberry gelato but was very good. DRINKS(2.5) Was really excited about the drinks as the ingredients and potential here were promising. Witch Doctor (4) - well balanced spin on a Trinidad Sour Spirit in the Sky (3)- Wife did not like so I drank it. Bitter and sour so strong taste (which I usually like) with fruit loops to balance it out. Good idea in concept but did not quite work in practice Heads will Roll(1) - Ingredients looked amazing and it was served in a really cool Colombian "shrunken head tiki style mug".(Did ask to hold my ID -as collateral?- due to the "hard to find mug") Unfortunately the crushed ice was so packed in that I could barely taste the drink or even get the straw to the bottom of the mug to find any liquid. High potential but tasted like a watered down McDonalds coke when you only have ice and a bit of soda left covering the ice- but with Sage on top. The drink got a zero (wet Ice in a cup) but gave a point for the mug and concept. Not worth $17 Lemon Drop(4.5)- not a menu item just ordered one and they made a good one SERVICE(3) Very friendly and helpful during our visit - can see they are proud of their restaurant. Had to flag someone down about 70% of the time and our waitress seemed to disappear halfway through service but others helped and took our order when we were able to get their attention. Bill was about $155 before tip for 2 people (Did get 1/2 off small plates for happy hour so about $20 off. Note: Need to be at bar for Happy Hour pricing. Had asked 3 times and were told we could sit on the patio for happy Hour and they charged full price, but manager gave us the HH prices on the 3 small plates when we explained the misinformation. OVERALL: Cool vibe, SO MUCH POTENTIAL and more than most restaurants in the CLE area, but need to work out the bugs: Suggestions: better balance of your great flavor ideas for the cocktails, improve consistency of service, more sauce on the anticuchos. Will try again to see if they improve - no one is perfect but everyone should be given a chance to improve and aspire to at least get close. read more

I've had the mushroom pizza both times I visited, the crust is delicious and chewy, the balance of cheese and mushrooms are good and the mushroom soup dipping sauce is brilliant. I've been on Wednesday nights twice, my initial visit I felt welcomed and the staff were engaging and nice. My second visit I felt unwelcome, there was a different staff and I felt like an intruder. First time at Amazonia. Tucked away, a bit hard to find, sparse parking and ultimately right behind Hola Taco. Ambiance is comfortable tropical and dark (upstairs anyway) maybe too dark, but fun. Staff were welcoming, very nice. We had tacos and pizza. Tacos were very good, highly recommended. We had a pistachio pizza that was also good but much preferred the tacos. The drinks are the items that were the most interesting. I had the Smoke Signals cocktail. Tasty, outright entertaining. One of the more unusual drinks I've had. Entertaining.
