Great flavorful food and service. They are open when others are closed and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. We've eaten here several times and the food is always fresh and delicious. The owners are a couple that are also the servers and so sweet and nice. They also speak English and German that we know of. Definitely a nice little place for pizza or a fish or meat dinner. After having the WORST meal in Rome the night before at Ristorante Cesare, we had the BEST meal here! From Prosecco when we arrived, to fresh bread and water next and the happiest and most-cordial owner, Mario Tarantino, we knew we were in for a great experience. Mario is quintessential Italy...a 4th-generation family chef telling stories, singing opera the best he could, and making my wife and I feel special. His recommendations were good. The Insalada Caprese was great and the Calamari Fritti was perfectly cooked, the Limone Linguini--his mother's recipe--a refreshing change. Having just arrived from the Amalfi Coast, it was good to taste a similar style in Rome. We HIGHLY recommend this Ristorante. We will be back!!! read more

When I first arrived in Rome, my flight touched down just before 7p.m. and after collecting my bags, going to my hotel and getting checked in, I was famished. I was in the mood for a nice pizza, a salad, and an ice cold Coca Cola (boring, I know, but I had some work I needed to complete later, so no wine with dinner on this night). I left my hotel and within a block, I saw the sign for this restaurant, with "Pizzeria" in lights. PERFECTO! I arrived, looked at the menu, the wait staff spoke decent English and along with my attempt at Spatalian (part Spanish/part Italian), we got through it. This restaurant isn't particularly fancy or ornate; Indeed, table numbers are marked on small white stones written in black marker, but the service was good, it seemed like a "mom and pop" type restaurant and the food was incredible, exactly what I was looking for. During my meal here, an older gentleman who I assume was the owner, came out of the restaurant and sang for passersby, trying to lure them into his establishment. Later that night, I happened to walk by on my way back to my hotel and this same man and a waiter were serenading a table with an Italian opera song, and were applauded by a few tables of patrons for their efforts when they finished. If you're looking for great, authentic Italian in a no-frills atmosphere (in other words, as genuine an experience as one can find), this is the place! Cost of everything listed above came to 26 Euros, and as is nearly always is the case in Europe, there was no additional line for gratuity or tip. read more

We came here for Christmas evening dinner since we were in Rome for the holiday. This place came recommended by our hotel as one of the few restaurants which were actually open for Christmas dinner. Overall, the experience was nice. The food was pretty good: we all got pizza and shared some wine. The waiter seemed slightly inattentive but I'm not sure if that's because it was Christmas or not. The only real complaint was the offer of caprese salad, which ended up costing approximately 12€ per person. It was a shock to us when we got the bill and saw we had spent 48€ on salad for the 4 of us. Just beware of this, as it was offered to us after our menus had been taken and costs much more than any of the other salads which were listed on the menu. read more

Heading home to the USA the following day, we went to Ristorante Ambasciata di Capri for our farewell dinner in Rome. The name means "Embassy of Capri" and the theme is to bring a bit of Caprese flavor to Rome. (The restaurant displays a proclamation from Capri thanking them for the representation in Rome!) Seafood is the thing here. I didn't know how they were going to match all that great seafood we'd had in Venice, but they did! The meal followed the typical pattern. Antipasto, a pasta course of Ravioli alla Caprese and Farfalle, and then San Pietro fish with a small salad and potatoes. Dessert was a lemon torte. All excellent! The restaurant had several rooms and seemed to be patronized by both locals and visitors. A strolling guitarist added to the ambiance. read more

I met the family at the restaurant in Rome, and The owner told me she and her family have been in the restaurant business for 60 years. This restaurant here in Rome has been here 15 years. I asked the staff at my hotel for a recommendation for a local restaurant and they advised us to go there. When we arrived , the staff was friendly, especially the head waiter. He brought out fish that were the daily specials, and also the most expensive items. After my friends and I decided not to order the daily special, the head waiter ignored us and sent over another waiter to continue at our table. Secondly, at the end of our bill, they charged a 10% service charge. We asked what it is for, and he said that it is a restaurant tax and joked that they are taxed on everything. The staff even asked us to leave a tip, which is not only rude, but is unusual in Rome. We paid the bill and even left a tip. Over the next few days of our trip in Rome and other parts of Italy, it became apparent that this 10% charge was applied for no reason and that all taxes are included in the price. We even showed the bill to the staff of other restaurants and local residents, and each of them told us that this 10% charge was simply to increase profit of the restaurant. This restaurant is a tourist trap and should be avoided. read more

We went for dinner. I had read reviews on trio advisor, and it seemed nice. W shared an appetizer, salad., and dessert. My husband had a potato crusted fish, while iI ate pasta . We had strawberries and ice cream for dessert. A couple comments. They charged for bread which they brought even though we member ordered it. We ate the bread not knowing it was extra, but it wasn't s big deal. Second, it took quite a while to get and settle our check. Since we were in no rush, thr want a big deal either. Staff was nice and attentive, as well as fluent in English. I would recommend this place. What made it even better was the discount offered on the fork and tripadvisor website. read more

My husband and I went to this restaurant on our last night before returning to the UK from Rome, and can I say we are glad we did. Talk about saving the best for last. Now as we were in the tourist capital and on holiday for our anniversary we felt that we had to try a new place to eat each night. We had some OK meals and some outright dodgy meals but none of them stood out as much as this restaurant. So much so that my husband has been on my case forever to write this review. I'll summarise: Attentive staff, ice on demand, just ask (you have to do that in Italian restaurants we discovered, ask for ice?!), ask for bread and they give you like it's a bottomless coke you just paid for AND FOR FREE. We had fried calamari to start which was amazeballs, not too greasy and just enough for two to feel satisfied, it came with a marinara sauce not the usual tartare. The sauce was so good and there was enough to dip our never ending bread in. Oh the bread before I forget, so good you can eat it plain forever. The hubby had a bog standard spaghetti and meatballs as he had been weary of what to get due to previous experiences that we had had so far. How pleasantly surprised he was when his meal arrived, hot and full of meatballs, just enough sauce to coat each spaghetti string. The meatballs he claimed were one of the best, this I guess may be due to the seasoning being very subtle to let the meat and the sauce shine through (my husband had had an issue with the sauces in Rome tasting just like raw tomatoes, this was not the case here) and there being not just mince but on my guess possible sausage meat in the mix also. My seafood linguine was an experience, they were not shy on the foodstuff and I had generous portions of an array of seafood including prawns/shrimp. The sauce was meaty but complimented the seafood and the pasta was not too chewy, like I feared being in Italy and all, but just right. We were so stuffed we didn't even get to try the dessert menu, but one can only imagine that would have capped off the evening wonderfully. My husband was soo pleased with the service and food that when he asked for a card so he could recommend the restaurant, they gave him TWO POSTCARDS as well as their business cards!lol. read more

BE CAREFUL! This was my first meal with my wife in Italy. Right around the corner from our hotel. The trip coordinator recommended it. The food was good. When the bill came I wanted to tip the waiter. I noticed a "servicio" item. I asked the waiter if this was the tip. He lied and said "no sir, this is tax" . tip is "cash". I gave him the usual 18% we pay in US. I did not have enough change so I asked for €10 back. He never brought it back and I had to ask him for it again. My husband, daughter and I went here for dinner after a recommendation from our hotel. The food was just OK. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone though. The first course we both got the ravioli which were tasty and full of cheese. For the second course I got the steak which was so fatty I could barely eat any of it. Not only did the food come out cold and leathery, but it did not feel as if the ingredients were of very high quality. I also did not like the service. The waiter was very pushy, kept trying to make me order bruschetta, wine, and caprese salads I did not want. And then tried to order an expensive fish dish on my behalf. We ordered vino dei casa and the waiter brought us a bottle of chianti. When we told him we didn't order it, he said that this was the housewine! When the bill came, he fist gave us the wrong one. On the actual one, there was an addition of 6€ for bread, that we didn't have!!! There was also a 10% servicio! We told the waiter and he gave us only 5€ discount. Later on, when we went for an explanation, the waiter became ofencive and called us stupid!! Eventually, he even called the police because we didn't wanted to leave without a descend answer! DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!!! I would give this place ZERO stars if I could. If you're a young American couple, apparently you're not welcome here. I came with my boyfriend on our last night in Rome. This restaurant was really close to the bed and breakfast we were staying at, and on a Sunday night it was one of the few places open. At first we thought it was a small mom and pop kind of restaurant, but we didn't realize how large it was until we were being led to our table. The restaurant has a decently large back area by the kitchen, and it was very busy for a Sunday night. What ruined this restaurant for us was our waiter. He was a middle aged guy with glasses and a decently large pot belly. It took him a long time to come to our table to take our order, and I watched him schmooze all of the tables around us. He was very charming with all of the other tables and was very attentive and friendly with them. When he came to our table, however, he made it obvious that he didn't have much interest in us at all. We ordered a bottle of house wine, and we each had two courses (soup & fettucini for me, salad and linguini for my boyfriend). I asked a small question about the fettucini and he gave me a careless three word disinterested reply, and after we told him our order he swiftly mumbled "okay then" or something and briskly walked away. At that point it wasn't really a big deal because we've run into some waiters while traveling abroad who tend not to like Americans. But my boyfriend and I made an effort to speak the few Italian words we knew and were always courteous and polite, and we were no different this time. A different person brought us our bread, soup and salad (a younger guy who was friendly) but we had no balsamic or olive oil on our table so I had to ask for some. Not a big deal but it would have been nice for our waiter to notice. We get through our first course and the waiter never checks up on us..at this point we still don't mind even though we see him laughing and attending to all of the tables around us. Our food comes and we are both happy with it, and we see the waiter ask all of the tables around us how their food is...finally he comes to our table, takes away our olive oil & balsamic vinegar, says nothing and leaves. the NERVE! I can't understand why this guy was such a jerk to us! Even though we wanted dessert, I was so mad at this point that I didn't want to give this restaurant anymore of my money. It took me FIFTEEN minutes for me to flag this jerk down...every time he passed by our table, he would NEVER look over at us. At one point I asked him as he walked by and he seemed to turn his head like he heard me but didn't respond to me and just kept on walking. Unbelievable! At this point I was so upset and wanted to get the hell out of that restaurant. My boyfriend told me to wait a little longer, and after 15 minutes I had to ask somebody else for the bill, and they told me the the bill was coming. Apparently the waiter HAD heard me but didn't even TRY to get the bill for us for another 15 minutes after I asked him!! This waiter was the biggest JERK we had met on our entire trip. What made it even worse is that it was the last day of our European Trip AND we were celebrating our 2 year anniversary...and this pretentious italian JERK ruined our night. There was an American sitting to our right and he was perfectly nice to her so I don't know why he didn't like us except for the fact that we're both American and very young looking (we're both 25). But like I sad, we were very polite and gracious, we spent a decent amount of money there, and so I have NO reason why this guy chose to treat us like garbage. I will note that all of the other staff were friendly to us. Also, when we got the bill, the wine was 18 EUROS!! That's cheap by U.S. standards but we had ordered house wine at every Italian restaurant during our stay in Rome and it had never cost more than 10 Euros. This guy ripped us off!! So if you get a different waiter you will probably be fine, but this dinner ruined the end of our trip and I have NEVER been so insulted at a restaurant in my life. We arrived in Rome on an overnight flight and took some time to rest up at our nearby hotel. We came out late in the day and found this restaurant open for an early evening dinner. They could not have been nicer or more welcoming. They shared the fresh fish options for the day - wow, lobster was live and the fish was exceptionally fresh with clear eyes and no smell. We were not terribly hungry and ordered the fettuccine bolognese and the ravioli with a side of sautéed escarole. The pasta was homemade and the seasoning perfect! Delicious flavor in all three dishes. As with most restaurants in Italy, we had a side of bread that was chargeable, as well as a bottle of still water and a coke. The have heathy portion sizes and the staff was fantastic with us. For dessert we had the chocolate almond cake - which is one of the best EVER! Great local restaurant with friendly service and excellent food. Take a moment and check out the photos of celebrity guests they have served over the years..most VERY recognizable! We have eaten there two nights in a row. It is a wonderful family restaurant, loud at times but always happy, adding to the family atmosphere. The fresh pasta with mixed seafood is glorious. Last night we weren't the hungry, so we ordered the Caprese salad, amazingly light fresh mozzarella, then the calamari fritti. Again amazing with an incredibly light fresh marinara. We were going to stop there, but they cajoled us into splitting a tiramisu (they gave us two tiny, though more than enough, complimentary limocellos to accompany it.) Nestled in a quiet side of an inconspicuous street, there is this small hole-in-the-wall restaurant. Its white Christmas lights hanging from its exterior and the tree across from the front entrance in the middle of the dark street called my attention and I had to see what the restaurant was. I'm glad I let my curiosity get the better of me because I was not disappointed! I ordered the spaghetti with meatballs (not made from regular beef; rather, it was veal) paired with a Chianti Classico red wine (San Lorenzo), and a limoncello and rum cake for dessert. It was beyond what I would imagine a good Italian dinner would taste like. The meatballs were hearty for their size, and paired with a smooth Classico the overall flavor was overwhelmingly satisfying. Our server Antonio provided top-notch service throughout, and knew Spanish, English and Italian (obviously) perfectly. Bottom line: the experience was special, the food was delightful, and I hope one day I can come back and sit under their little tree and enjoy their delicious food again very soon. read more
