I absolutely adored my visit to the Ambler Theater today. They took the time to find a way to make everything seem frozen in time in a good way. Everyone working there was so nice, it was a reminder of a bygone era. Everything looked like it was renovated, but specifically preserved or re-done to mimic a classic theater style from decades (or even a century+) ago. Fresh paint, restored marble, a little Art Deco, and tons of old time movie posters. The lobby leading up to the ticket window was so long. I like thinking the walk through it was the steps needed to step backwards through time. I'm very happy to see places like this still running. I implore anyone reading this: please go, support this place. You'll have a wonderful time, and you'll help keep old traditions like this place alive.

The theater has over 100 years. I saw the movie named Downton Abbey in this age-old building. The feeling is wonderful!

Really a nice theater with a great atmosphere. Popcorn was fresh and the movie selection is intriguing. Great small theater worth visiting before a dinner or some drinks.

    Outside of theater!

I came here recently for a Flashback Cinema showing--it's a series in which many independent theaters play vintage classic movies from the 80s and 90s. I had a blast! It's so fun to see historic blockbusters on the big screen. This is a low-key, no frills venue. There is a modest snack stand at the front and older style seating. I came for a Sunday matinee and it was not busy. There was a family who had rented out one of the rooms, which seems like a cool thing to do. Tickets are $10 and below. I'd definitely recommend coming here if you want a nostalgic theater experience and the chance to see some classic films.

Tickets are $10 ($9 for military, $8 for kids), and they have a special on Wednesday's for $6 tickets. Soft drinks and Icees are $6 or $7 by size. Popcorn is $7, $8, or $9 (of $15 for a giant tub that gets $2 refills). Popcorn and drinks are also discounted on wednesdays. It's set up almost exactly like a movie theater from twenty years ago. I find that charming and nostalgic, though some might find it dated. Either way, while the configuration is classic, it's clean and properly maintained. And while they don't specialize in having a bunch of IMAX screens or Dolby Atmos, etc., they have crystal clear laser projection and decent audio systems that compare to the non-premium (IMAX, etc.) screens at brand new theaters. You're not looking for that much service-wise at a movie theater snack bar, but the staff were friendly, polite, and did everything the right way. The popcorn was fairly fresh. They have the old school "butter" dispensing machine. It was great to be able to have a nice date night at the movies, complete with the snacks we each wanted, for less than $50 for both of us.

They often play new indie films as well as some classics you may have never had a chance to see on the big screen. Around the holidays they throw pj parties and replay "Polar Express". They also play a few children's options during school breaks and during the summer. They definitely hand select their features with thought and precision. Ticket prices are more reasonable than main stream theaters and they also sell memberships! Check out their website to see what they entail. We have held a "Frozen" birthday party here for our daughters a few years back and to this day it was still one of the most enjoyable parties I have ever thrown. It was unique, easy and inexpensive, especially compared to the regular party places. The price wasn't per person, rather based on total range of attendees which is really great for the party for wee ones as parents, even siblings sometimes at that age tag along. The parties are BYOM (movie) which is great because the child can really pick whatever theme they so choose. The lights are dim to halfway so children won't get scared if it's their first time which it was for some. We were happy to be a part of that experience. The kiddos had the option to run around which they didn't seem to do at all. Everyone say and watched and enjoyed. Everybody loved this very different party and I highly recommend it! The movie parties are held earlier in the morning which was actually perfectly timed allowing the Littles to go home and take a nap and have the rest of the day with their family. And kids are up uber early anyway, why not get them out? The price of the party included the entire theater, popcorn and a drink for each child and tea and coffee was set for the adults. We ordered bagel trays and fruit trays from Fill A Bagel down the street which they delivered right to the movie theater. Easy! We also brought our own cake, drinks, a few games and yogurt parfaits. It was such a nice alternative to the normal pizza party. I couldn't recommend having at least one of your childrens birthday parties here! No need to worry about weather or if someone doesn't show up and you've paid per head. Sunday was easy as parking in the neighborhood is free!

Love this place! Especially for the old horror movie showings. So glad places like this still exist!read more
