This theater opens half an hour before the first showtime of the day. If the first movie is at noon, doors will be unlocked at 11:30. Popcorn is made fresh in the popper throughout the day and employees wear gloves when serving it. Concessions is not open all night, and closes half an hour after the beginning of the final showing - so be sure to head over and get your popcorn refill before they close at that time. Soda and icee (red, blue, coke) machines are open for refills all night. Recently (past few years) upgraded inside - touchless bathrooms, carpeting in the theaters to replace the old concrete, and heated leather recliner seats. Four glowing crane/claw machines have been added in the lobby with squishmallows and rubber ducks for $1 a play with singles or $5 for 5 plays at once with tap to pay. There is now a bar that currently serves bottled and canned beer, wine, and cocktails. If the bar is not open, you can always order them at concessions. New in stock are local Fat Tire and Voodoo Ranger! Draft service soon to be opened. You will not have to worry about parking here, the lot is huge and rarely full. Odds are high for accidental private showings during the week or earlier in the day/late at night which is fun. This place is dead weekdays before 4. Mystery movies are a new and recent fun feature, "AMC Screen Unseen", /usually/ Monday nights at 7pm, tickets are $5. Rating and estimated run time are given and nothing else, encouraging people to branch out into new movie genres for a bargain, also something fun to do with friends on a Monday. These mystery movies are usually new movies that haven't come out yet/are coming out soon and are a good way to see things a little before they are released. Some movies are only here for the mystery screening and do not stick around after - Boy Kills World and the Spy x Family movie were examples of this one night only. Free large popcorn and drink refills at the soda machine for Stubs members, it's free to become one. To sign up at the register, you'll need a first and last name, email. Optional is phone number and birthday; phone number to makes the membership easy to look up, birthday to get your free large birthday popcorn to use during your birth month. You can also sign up for free at home at amcstubs.com. Members also enjoy $6 movie tickets every Tuesday. Pro tip 1: Bring a blanket to be comfy! Pro tip 2: There is a Five Below a block over that has frequent specials on candy. Pro tip 3: Bring a straw from home. The Biolo straws here are the WORST, and will fracture as you use them. This place is cute if you think about it like a little indie theater rather than a corporate AMC. It has more charm that way, since they removed all the natural charm that came with the theater neon and the enormous ceiling mirror. Also, sometimes stuff doesn't work. It is what it is. Happens with older theaters. TLDR: Free point-accrual rewards program is worth the discount tickets on Tuesdays alone, and the free large popcorn refills. Bad straws. Boring beige interior. Pros: -The seats are now cozy and recline -still easy to book tickets -They do have seats that reserve now -It is not overly crowded, less people able to view the show, but more comfortable -lobby was clean -movie sound was good Cons : -still a lot of potholes in teh parking lot! their soda machines were out of carbonation and not a single employee could care. you pay over $6 for a soda and we should expect quality. many AMC theaters either have poor mix that results in a weak taste or they lack ample carbonation. i should have asked for my soda money back. also the sound quality is very poor. it's almost as if they have home speakers behind the screen. no surround sound whatsoever. Theater was a mess. Sound in theater 5 is horrible. No depth, pure noise from the screen. Human voices have depth, impossible to enjoy the movie. Don't waste your time or money. Apparently the issue with theater 5 is well known, but the management team seems to think just cranking the volume is enough to satisfy complaints. This little movie theater is a great spot for the easy movie goer. It's shows recently released films at a great price, it has average concession costs, and provides an overall very quality movie experience. The seats and auditoriums feel old and used but that's kinda part of the charm to this Carmike theater. While I genuinely enjoy the new theaters with reclining seats and huge auditoriums with amazing sound systems, there is something very nostalgic about this Carmike. It can be busy and slow.. if you wait until the movie is near the end of its run and on its last showing of the night you may find yourself alone in the auditorium. It's happened to me a few times. Even when it's busy I never have a problem getting a decent seat. The customer service is great and they even offer water cups if you don't want to pay $4 for a bottled water. I've also heard great tales of their popcorn bucket which you can get for the year and refill for every movie. I'm not a huge popcorn water so I've passed on this deal. Overall, a decent and nostalgic movie theater offering recent release movies at a good price and giving you a great overall experience! read more

Saw a $3 early screening here. If you are longing for some mid-90s movie viewing nostalgia, this is a great place to go. It is rather tired, as most other reviews say, but it may be that we are all just a little spoiled with the amenities of theatres today. (It is possible to see a show without a waiter, cup holders, reclining and massage chairs!). I don't know that I would be eager to pay full-price for a new showing here, but if you can get a deal, the place isn't that bad. read more

Bizarre. We bought tickets online, walked in, and nobody even looked at our tickets or asked if we should be there. It was weird. We could've walked in off the street and sat down for free. The movie occupied about 2/3rds of the screen for no explicable reason and the sound was turned way down. It was so weird and incredibly annoying. They have made improvements with seating quality and the actual screen/theater but who cares when the volume is turned down and nobody is taking the time to fit the movie to the screen? It's obvious there's no real oversight or adult management happening at this theater and it shows through in the overall experience of watching a movie here. We were excited to go to our first movie back after the pandemic and were so happy with the way we were treated. The cleanliness was amazing and the staff so accommodating. The seating is limited but we were still able to find good seats together. We enjoyed the movie and left with extra popcorn as our bucket can't be brought in yet but they still honored our refillable bucket from earlier in the year. You will not be disappointed. read more

Very disappointing experience, the aperture of the double movie camera was out of focus from the minute previews began up until about an hour and ten minutes of my 90-minute-long movie, creating a thick, black curved line going right through the middle of the screen, with parts of the projected film extending up past and down below where it was meant to be projected. As well, the Muzak continued to play uninterrupted through the whole of the 20+ minute preview block, and a pesky moth continued to fly directly into the projector on top of the major blockage through the screen, adding to the unpleasurable viewing experience even more. Certain other aspects of the facilities were run down or broken down, and the theatre building as a whole seemed to be in highly 'dated' shape in contrast to the other cinemas in town. A major overhaul of the facilities and their management should be taken into consideration from now on. read more

Best picture/sound you will find anywhere!! The Carmike is just west of College Ave. on Horsetooth. They have digital projectors that are AMAZING. When I first heard about "digital" projectors I was pretty skeptical about it making any difference. But WOW!. Go watch a digital projection movie here after you go see a filmstrip movie at the Cinemark on Timberline and you'll see what I mean. Much clearer, brighter picture AND much better sound. That being said, the seats are not as comfortable as the Cinemark...but I can live with that. It's not like they are uncomfortable, just not AS comfortable. Carmike has cheaper snacks, cheaper tickets, and is centrally located in FTC. They have fewer screens, but they seem to stagger their showings a little better so you don't always have to stand in line for so long just to buy a ticket. Netflix has a couple advantages to going to the theater: it comes straight to your house, you can pick and choose online, postage paid to return. But there's those movies you look forward to coming out that you have to see them in the theater. The location of Carmike FTC is geographically desirable to my house, so we're here at least once every other week. ++ Plus Points ++ Nothing but parking - The only time it's full is when the crazy goth kids & their cougar moms are camping out waiting for the first showing of the next Twilight movie CHEAP!! - They have recession Tuesday's where popcorn and sodas are $1 buck each, $2 for candy. Popcorn Bucket Deal - Buy the bucket for $15, refills are $2.50 for the rest of the year. Audio/Video - digital sound, a 3D cinema, very decent. -- Minus Points -- Dated - For being in this location for about 10 years, it's already pretty dated and it shows. With the amount we drop at the box office, would be nice to see them do some updating here. Commercials - a seriously stupid amount of ads before the previews even ran, like 20-25 minutes. Some repeating, while people in the theater groaned "not again!" Seating - I had the feeling that I would roll out of my chair since the entire upper section of rows was slanted, instead of set up as stadium seating. Minimal leg/elbow room, but I'm a tall fella, it follows me everywhere. Bathrooms - I'll bring my last years popcorn bucket next time. It beats all the hassle of the googaplex on Harmony & Timberline, but if it wants to compete or at least bring in more business, they'll need to do a serious renovation. And soon. read more

This is a good theater and conveniently located. It is an older theater but is has been renovated and is clean. The food concessions and lobby are are well laid out and it is easy to get popcorn and snacks after you get your tickets. The parking lot is great and provides ample space. The theater does have stadium seating in most theaters, it is just not as steep and some theaters. This isn't a bad thing, it's just a matter of preference. They do have party options and the ability to rent out for special events which is great. They also have free movie days in the summer for kids as well as sporting events. I watched the World Cup here last year which was really cool. Overall this is a good place to watch a movie and get a popcorn. read more

I've worked at other theatres in town for years and have friends at all the theatres in town but still regularly come to the Carmike. I've always been greeted by friendly staff, clean and well maintained facilities, and great presentation quality. Many people compare the Carmike to the Cinemark, so I'll do that. I feel like the employees at the Cinemark don't really care. Most seem to be high school kids who's parents made them get a job. At the Carmike, most everyone is friendly and willing to help. The Carmike staff are also willing to chat about movies (or whatever), something the Cinemark floor staff don't really seem interested in. Whenever I go to the Cinemark, even on slow days, everything seems disheveled and cluttered and messy. Not one thing seems to make it this way, but a lot of little things seem to add up. At the Carmike I've never felt this way. They always seem clean, almost to the point of being sterile. Though older, the Carmike has also held up better over the years. I haven't been to the Cinemark since they went all digital last month, but I was never impressed by their 35mm projection in the past. This might have been improved with the change to digital. Carmike has been all digital for years (the whole company made the switch on all of their screens years before anyone else did and it almost bankrupted them). The sound and picture is always pristine and movies start on time. I have on more than one occasion been left to wonder why my film hadn't started 7 or 8 minutes after it should have at the Cinemark, including a midnight opening for The Dark Knight that was a debacle and require them to give free passes to a sold out theatre or two because of interlocking issues. Ticket prices are nearly identical at the two theatres, but the Carmike has good deals (especially on Stimulus Tuesdays) on concessions fare. I really don't understand why people drive all the way to the Cinemark to see a movie when the Carmike is much closer to town. It really does sadden me when I see such a good theatre empty and it kind of irks me when people say they like it because it is so slow. Going to the movies is a communal experience, and the more people the better (usually). Going to the Carmike is great as it is, but it would sure be nice if a few more people go there. I hope everyone will give it a try for the next big blockbuster they've been dying to see! read more

I was planning on seeing It Chapter 2, but since I didn't bring my ID because I thought I didn't, I was apparently wrong. They wouldn't let me buy a ticket. Although, I am clearly over 18. It was absolutely ridiculous and the lady I talked to was incredibly rude. She was short and had brown hair in a bun. She looked like a manager, so I'll definitely be calling this location about her. Her name was Molly. I have never had this happen to me, and now I will make sure to never go here again unless this changes. No other location is like this. What a waste of my time and gas. This theater is not too bad to go to for a movie. For one it is not as crowded as the Cinemark gets so that is a real plus! All the movies I have seen here in the past have been operated well, meaning no breakdowns in the middle or anytime during the movie of the projecting equipment and that is awesome! There are a lot of commercials and such but that is kind of standard fare these days with mainstream theaters. read more

Don't get me wrong, the picture is great (sound OK... I felt like it came at my ears at different times at some points during the movie). However, the staff is pretty blase. My boyfriend and I asked for popcorn without butter and the dude started to put butter on it. I reiterated that we wanted it sans butter and he just threw it right back in with the rest of the popcorn and started re-shoveling it in the bag. So I called him out on it saying "but that's the same popcorn". He just looked up at us with a 'whatever' look saying 'it was the only popcorn they had'. How hard/expensive is it to throw the popcorn away and start fresh? And I was really looking forward to having some damn good movie popcorn... Also not really a cheap theater. $6.50 for a student on a weeknight? Come on guys. read more

This movie theater is alright. The student ticket prices are pretty good ($7), but the concessions are pretty outrageously priced for the quality of the theater and the food. The $8 bag of popcorn is about the size of a $6 bag anywhere else. The ticket window had a really long line, and then eventually the staff sent us to concessions to get our tickets, making the process longer than it should have been. That being said, the theaters are large and each row has lots of leg room. The movie quality was fine and I'll probably return, for the sake of location convenience and student ticket prices. read more

This isn't one of those fancy theaters with the reclining seats but they are still comfortable and remind me of going to the theater when I was a kid. Aside from the chairs not bring as luxurious, this place seems pretty nice. The theater is clean, the people who work here are polite and $5 tickets are pretty awesome too. read more

I love this theater. It is cheap compared to the AMC theaters I grew up going to. It is never crowded. The seats are comfy.

We love this theater! Partially because it's the closest to our house, but also because it tends to be less crowded than many of the other theaters. It's a smaller theater and it's not as "fancy" as some of the newer theaters, but it has everything you need either way. The staff is always friendly and we never have problems getting good seats, whether we go on a weeknight or weekend. read more
