The service when I go here is usually pretty solid and they have a good happy hour deal. Also if you get three of the same shots (from a list) they're $12, which is pretty good. A very strange thing happened tonight (a Sunday when the bar was sparsely populated). I walked in and asked for a beer. The bartender, an older guy I had not seen there before, flatly told me he could not serve me. I talked to this bartender pleasantly, wondering what led him to that decision as I had just walked in. He said I was "wobbly." That was a first. I'm 70 and one of my knees "gives" at times, but by no means do I wobble. I was quite sober. I had enjoyed a single beer at dinner before walking in, intending to watch some soccer recaps on the many TVs there before going home. It was a very short interaction. Neither of us got ugly. Nobody raised their voice. And bars have the right to refuse service. No bartender should ever serve someone who has had too many. But this guy misjudged me. It should have been apparent to a bartender (or anyone who has been around people who are drinking) when we talked that I was neither drunk nor impaired in any way. I left immediately and did not argue. At my age, the last place you want to be is one where you aren't wanted. But this guy was out of line. He jumped to a wrong conclusion based on who knows what. Or maybe he had an agenda, like wanting to clear the place out so he could go home on a Sunday night (but there were 30-odd other folks around, playing pool, etc.) Steak-out has a reputation of sometimes trying to clear people out early, but it was nowhere near closing time. I doesn't make sense to call it age discrimination. This guy was a bald dude with grizzled grey stubble, so apparently past 50, or he had lived a life that made him appear so. If age was the factor, he will feel the reality of age discrimination, which occurs in many places, soon enough himself. I hope this was a strange on-off incident. I had been there often when in town. I liked the sports on the TVs and the reasonably priced selection of beers. I had always had pleasant and friendly conversations with the bartenders. I have always found the bartenders there to be good people. I had never seen this guy before. I hope I don't see him again. I am a pleasant, conversational, easy-going customer who always tips well. I have never been refused service -- anywhere -- so this rude awakening came as a shock. I immediately felt for black folks who get turned away for no reason other than skin color. Lacking a coherent theory, I guess it had to be my age? I have no idea what this guy's problem was. But this bar's owners have a liability on their hands with him as he will deter good people from coming there. I have some experience working in bars and restaurants, albeit decades ago. Personnel choices are very important. Hiring him and allowing him free rein to insult customers was not a good choice. Perhaps the owner will read theses reviews, both the good and bad. read more

The first round of drinks (three total) was reasonably priced, but when I ordered a second round and ordered only one drink, I was charged three times the price of the first round. My fiancé and I are from Houston, Texas and we had come to Fort Collins under unfortunate circumstances; my aunt had passed away and we were going to a memorial celebration to honor her. We chose to come here for what we thought would be a quick post memorial drink. That didn't happen and stayed probably an hour and a half longer than planned haha! The staff was so friendly and welcoming, even took the time to charge my phone after it died during the celebration. Not only were they super nice, they were so patient with my Texan flavored drink requests; including them asking me to walk them through how to make a Mexican Candy shot and a ranch water cocktail After a few drinks, we started playing shot guessing games with one particular bartender (I unfortunately don't remember any of their names- it was a night lmao) and he really made our evening!! On top of everything else, the atmosphere was busy but chill at the same time, and I noticed every single staff member took time to talk to their customers, never rushing anyone. Interior was cozy as well, pool tables looked like fun! Customer service has gotten very terrible over the years but this establishment is a key example of how bad it can be these days. My friends and I ended our night here expecting a relaxing environment given that it's a "dive bar." My friends and tables around us were patiently waiting for our Ubers and finishing our drinks when this unfriendly, rude, interestingly unhygienic (dirty fingernails, greasy hair, rotten hands) woman was harassing us to leave by 1:30 when the bar closes at 2. We all paid for multiple drinks, tipped well, we weren't being obnoxious, at the very least, we should be able to finish our drinks in peace (when we paid for them). Literally told that woman that our Uber was 4 minutes away, and she was audacious enough to tell us to drink faster. I picked up to-go cocktail shots (3 for $10) and they came in cute little containers portioned out. I had a St. Elmo burger and it was delicious, perfectly cooked meat and the sauce was a great balance of spicy and zesty with the mustard and habanero sauce. Fries could have been cooked a little longer or hotter, I like them crispier. They have the best drink-list for fun shots and cocktails in Old Town. This is the worst establishment I have visited in many cities. I visited about 4 years ago and was put off by their arrogant attitude. We are here in the city for New West Fest 2019 and happened in again. The arrogance of the bar staff and what seemed to be a manager were unbelievable. They offered last call and after placing drinks on the bar told everyone they needed to leave. Walked through the bar threatening patrons. It was quite unnerving. While I understand laws are different in every state and city, they need to communicate their intentions. We spent over $50 only to be thrown out? It was 1:27 am. It was a festival weekend. If you don't fit into this category, keep on moving hombre. It's not that it's dirty or worn down like the neighboring joint, Trailhead, it's just not a place you can talk to your friends or share a story unless you want to stand two inches apart and scream at each other. Super annoying: The speedy gonzales guy who grabs your beer glass off the table and doesn't ask you if you want another, you have to do everything yourself, and it takes 20 times as long to get a new beer as it did for them to take your old one. Sometimes when I'm walking around Old Town, I can imagine what the city was like in the founding years in 1864. Dirt roads with cowboys on horseback, fur trappers coming down from the Poudre Canyon, and stationed soldiers walking into western saloons for a break from the sun. Many of our historical buildings have been well preserved, maintaining the rustic feeling of the wild west, and one might think that the Steakout Saloon has been around since the days of Wild Bill and Wyatt Earp. Despite the authentic look of having been in the American Old West - antique tin ceiling tiles, worn woods floors, and a large western-style bar - the Steakout Saloon has only been serving drinks and food since 1999, even though the building was constructed in 1909. Under the Steakout signage, you can still see a ghost sign from when it used to be a grocery store in the early 1920s. Situated on Mountain Avenue between Mason and College, it's often confused for the Trailhead Tavern, which is right next door. The Steakout is a favorite lunch spot for the Old Town business crowd and a favorite bar for the pub crawlers. Many of the bars in Old Town seem to have a split personality to the likes of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde when it comes to the goings on during the night and day, but the Steakout is the most consistent between the two crowds. It's a place where the down-to-earth personalities of Fort Collins hangout for some no frills grub and beer. Oh wow! Coming in here on first glance reminds me of the bars in Wyoming! Meaning rustic! But after a while when I looked around I realized that I was still in Fort Collins, a college town. It is dotted with CSU propaganda and has a bike hanging from the ceiling. Yep... I didn't leave the state after all. The time I went here was during a football game. So everyone was whooping and hollering and carrying on. NOT so much for quiet. There seemed to be only two staff members working for a fairly busy restaurant. That means the wait was longer but the waitresses was doing her best keeping on top of things. There was a bartender behind the bar as well but he left after a while and it seemed like the poor waitresses was stuck with the whole place! When we did get our food(which wasn't all THAT long...I was just hungry) I had a very yummy mushroom and swiss burger! I also had a nice handsome salad that accompanied the meal which was also quite yummy. They have all the 'basics' for local microbrews on tap as well... which could not be passed up. I went with O'dell's Hoptober. If you want a pretty good hamburger or steak Steak- Out Saloon is not a bad place to go but try to avoid games because the noise level gets obnoxious unless of course... you WANT to actually WATCH a football game while eating out. The drinks are well priced for old town. As other reviewers have said, the place is a bit dingy, which led me to my initial opinion of the restaurant. My boyfriend and I absolutely love it here! Walking into the casual bar atmosphere you wouldn't expect their food to be so good, but it is. They have a good selection of sandwiches and apps, and really good salads as well. The food is always hot and I have never been disappointed. Some people call this a "dive" bar, but that would depend upon what your intent is when deciding how to showcase the character of your particular booze shop. IMO, this place is not a "dive", it's RUSTIC and has tons of Old Town character. The Steak-Out Saloon is more than just a cool bar; they serve decent bar cuisine that is worth coming back to. I don't really go to bars anymore, but if I were younger and in college again I'd definitely make this place one of my more frequented watering holes. The service is both good and bad. It's not consistent and if you have a bad service experience, try them again and it's likely to be completely different. I don't know what it is but that's just something you have to accept walking in that front door. The beer selection is okay for a Ft. Collins pub, but they tend to have the same beers that every other old pub has. The typical standard and flagship beers of the local microbreweries in town and a few seasonal options compose the beer menu. Again, IMO, bars will do better with providing beers (and other drinks) that are different from the bar next door or down the street. Mix it up and give your customer more options. Overall, I really like the place and it will continue to be a great place for me to grab some lunch in Old Town. If I ever need to show someone from out of town some Ft. We checked Yelp for a steakhouse in FortCollins and came up with this place. It's an A-ok place, with some outdoor tables and a blue collar comfy ethos. Unfortunately, it DOES NOT SERVE STEAK! We stayed anyway, enjoyed a couple of sammiches and chips and beers. The Wisconsin fried pickles were great as were the french fries. The service was perfect too. Would recommend for a casual dinner or afternoon lunch. Very casual atmosphere. They also have a 2nd Happy Hour from 11pm-? We're past that, but could be fun for others. :) read more

This place is my personal favorite bar in FoCo. A big reason is that I really like the staff! Some of them can be a bit abrasive or gruff at first, but if you are a regular they really soften up. Plus having seen the kind of idiocracy that they put up with it is no wonder they are a bit gruff, but if you show respect you will definitely get respect. The food here is the best bar food in FoCo, definitely not the place to go if you are looking for something healthy, as it is all fairly greasy, but for those of you who are worried about your weight or what not, they do have some pretty good salads... One of the best things about this place, besides the service, is the selection of beers, as they usually have a lot of great microbrews on tap! Plus they have a lot of fun games to play, from 3 pool tables, an air hockey table, a shuffle board table downstairs, and a bubble hockey game. Plus they have enough TV's to accommodate everyones sporting needs!!!
