I'm not fond of writing a negative review, but I'm unhappy with the recent history of this old friend... I've been going to the Oak Tree cinemas since they opened - about twenty years back, if memory serves. I've been a long-time fan, but since AMC bought out the Oak Tree's former chain (Loew's,) the last of the thrill is gone, I am very sorry to say. It used to be that I didn't mind that the seats were getting a little rundown, or that the decor - which was hip when it opened - was largely dated and growing dusty. It was conveniently located, had enough screens (all of a decent size) to show a nice selection of flicks without swamping their patrons with choices, and the rates were among the lowest of the big chains. AMC, however, was already the most expensive chain in town and it was not long after their takeover of Loew's that prices went up and - the unkindest cut of all - they switched from showing the cheap(er) matinees until the traditional 6 PM to ending them at merely 4 PM. Of the six movies currently playing there, half of them have only one matinee showing before 4 PM. Even those cheapest matinees are still more expensive than most anywhere else, last I checked, but the corporate parent seems to be doing its best to help drive up prices all over town. I, for one, resent this slightly-abusive treatment of their customers and I don't go there anymore, unless the direst film-going need forces me to do so. I therefore now see even more movies at Landmark cinemas, or at the classy and beloved (if similarly expensive) Majestic Bay, and I'm more likely than I once was to drive the extra distance to attend the Mountlake cinemas - the nearest of the still-cheaper Regal chain of cinemas. I used to try to avoid this theater before the remodel, but ever since the remodel, I try to go here. The seats are great - roomy and spacious. They're more comfortable than Regal Thornton's seats and have material that's easier to wash off and don't leave stains, so I'm not sitting there wondering what's spilled there and is still there (for those clean freaks). The only issue with the seats is that if you're assigned seats or pick seats based on the designated pairs, you don't have much room to put your popcorn/food on the armrests. If you go one off, then you get 2 armrests and more room. I like the soda refill machines, so I can try different drinks while I'm there. The butter machine is also helpful, so I can do it myself. There's also usually fewer people at this theater. The only cons I have are the AMC rewards program and the lack of some more popular movies playing, but I make do since I don't go to the movies much and prefer watching at home anyway if I have to. The birthday reward for AMC is better than Regal, though. read more

This is my local go to theater, I live just down the way. After I became an AMC Stubs A list member I started coming here a lot. This AMC location is equipped with large electric recliner chairs and offers you tons of space compared to the airplane like seating of some other theaters. They really roll out the carpet for you and help to make your experience at AMC feel special. With the new app I can get my seats way ahead of time and just stroll in and get my self some food and drink. There is a strange feet like smell here though. I'm not sure if it's a chemical used to clean with or maybe it is a smell from people who take their shoes off during the movie which I see people do that often (ewww). The staff are very nice but not very organized nor attentive. I've gotten orders wrong on food and it can take them awhile to make food like hotdogs and popcorn. read more

This sucks because I saw movies here all the time as a kid, but I'll probably be avoiding the Oak Tree in the future. Sound quality was awful, seats weren't very comfortable, and the place was mostly empty. All of that subtracts enough from the "cinematic experience" that there's not really any point in going to see a movie in theaters. I'm pleased to report that the two things I remember most fondly from my childhood are still going strong. One being a small but solid selection of arcade games and the other being an Icee machine. Unfortunately, I'm not 10 anymore, so I have no use for either of those things. But it's nice to know they're there. read more

Oak tree Cinema I went there to see a scary movie called A Nightmare On Elmstreet the remake. 5/8/2010 Man it was so so scary you felt like you wanted jump out of your seat. I didn't use to go to Oak Tree for a while because it was dumpy and dirty. Oak Tree lobbey has the same color carpenting and floor but it's a brand new floor. The womens restroom got very nice it has neatly stacked paper towels on the sink and neatly stacked lotions. So Now I'm going back to Oak Tree. Heidi read more

In the past, we've attended sneak previews at this location. It's not far from our place and with free parking + Burgermaster around the corner, we usually partake. That said, I doubt we'd pay to see a film here. The individual theatres are on the smaller side. The seats are older seats with fixed armrests and in the aisles, less-than-generous legroom. Several Yelpers have described it as your average run of the mill mall theatre and they are right. I can't honestly say there's anything remarkable about this place. I recommend checking out free screenings here but go to another cinema if you want to fully enjoy that high ticket price. read more

Ooooo we got some haters!! Ok, ok... So this theater is quite a dump. It's older, the whole bathroom being upstairs is kind of weird... but you really can't go wrong with never having to worry about the theater being packed (well at least not when I've been there). Not as bad as I'd heard. We went during the Christmas holiday to see Fantastic Mr. Fox. The theater was not crowded at all and, of course, everyone clustered around us as they ALWAYS seem to do in a non- crowded theater (we're magnetic like that). But it was fine. Show went off normally, lights dimmed just in time - all in all a fine movie experience. But you know, we really prefer to see movies at home. We're just crazy like that. read more

Only two bathroom stalls for all theaters that are available without climbing stairs. Difficult for handicapped and seniors or even families with kids. What gives for a newly remodeled theater? read more

I went to the Oak Tree this morning to catch the 10:15 Mary Poppins. I was told that it was cancelled due to technical issues and that the next showing is at 12:30. The 10:15 show is $5.99. The 12:30 one is $10.49, so I asked if I could see the 12:30 Mary Poppins for $5.99 and the manager said that it wasn't possible to sell me a cheaper ticket. Of course there can be technical problems and movies have to be cancelled sometimes, but I went there in the morning to watch the movie at the cheaper price (not to mention that I'm an AMC Stubs member). The manager could have offered me (and a few others I saw there) some sort of compensation - like a voucher for a future movie - or at the very least an apology and a ticket for the next showing at the reduced price. The ticket person I first spoke to was very apologetic and sympathetic, but the manager was not. Since the remodel I've really enjoyed going to this theater, but I will go elsewhere from now on and will not recommend the Oak Tree to my friends. read more

The Good: Not in downtown, don't have to pay for parking. Decently clean. Doesn't smell. I saw Iron Man. That's about it. The Bad: Nice but lackadaisical staff - a theater walk-through might cut down on the assholes. No butter in the middle of my popcorn (hey, i love movies, it matters to me). Sketch neighborhood. Biggest bad - not stadium seating. Bottom Line: I'm starting to realize stadium seating is a must for me. Not only is the view better, but you're less bothered by the aforementioned assholes (which had no effect on this review btw). What I learned: I need to find a theater for stadium seating that's not far from Wallingford but also doesn't give me downtown parking/road rage. read more

The sound came and went, they had trouble getting the movie started, and they had the ads on loops. Saw Dark Knight here, and despite all that, it was a good place. It was comfortable and the customers respected the quiet signs. I didn't hear a single cell phone during the movie. That's rare. It isn't fancy but it is good enough. read more

Used to come to this theatre all the time when I lived in the Greenlake neighborhood. Still looks the same.........it's getting pretty run down and dilapidated - I sat in a broken seat and so did my daughter..........only came here cause it was in the neighborhood where we went to dinner.....probably the last time I'll come here unless they remodel! read more

What's Up With the Previews I have been regularly going to Oaktree since it's much needed remodeling/ upgrading. The seats are super comfy, allowing you to practice lay down. The snack bar also has some nice additions. Plus, I don't have to pay for parking. On my latest visit I decided to time the previews. I have long been frustrated by the number of movie previews here. The commercials (including commercials for food, cars, TV etc) was surprisingly 20 minutes. These started at the published movie time of 11:30. There were at least 15 commercials (I lost count) which were followed by 20 minutes of movie previews. It was a total of 40 minutes before the movie started at 12:10. I now fondly miss 20 minutes of a couple commercials and 5 previews. Makes me wonder about the place. The other thing I noticed is that the snack bar has no small drinks. The "regular" is $5 and 7/11 big. I skipped it. Will I continue to go here? Probably. Will I continue to be frustrated? Yes. Would I give this place more "stars" if they reigned in the previews? Great staff, quick lines but the theatre experience is what this review three stars. Temperature--so hot in there...like there's no A/C just radiating body heat from all the guests. And the sound--it needs to be a few notches louder and some dialogue was hard to make out through crinkling and food chewing. Otherwise a good theatre...oh and the parking...not sure who drew the lines but all the parking's tight. read more

This is one of those places that you see being reviewed and you think, yeah...I've been there...but do I really want to review it? Alas, here I am. To be fair, there is nothing special about this place. The location is ok and there is an Asian grocery store right next door! There's a coffee place, Qdoba, a BECU Atm and an IHOP too so whether you want to get breakfast and then see an early show for only five bucks, or grab some lunch, dinner, coffee, etc. and see a show at least you've got some really close options. Though the parking lot is usually open for spaces, I've been a time or two and had trouble finding a spot. Inside, the theater is dirty and you get that "back in the day" feel when chilling in the lobby waiting for you flick to start. It's your average movie theater but it is convenient enough to make it worthwhile. read more

Excelent choice, you won't regret it! Reclinable seats, extremely comfy... I have low back problems and sometimes I can't sit for long periods of time without a special cushion, the seats are so comfortable that I can really relax and enjoy the movie without even thinking about my back. Great service, clean and nice atmosphere. I'm even afraid of writing this review because I don't want this place to get overcrowded but they did such great job remodeling this place, they deserve a great review and people deserve to watch movies feeling like royalty. I used to come here at least once a week when it was owned by Loews. When ACM bought them, the prices went way up and I stopped going. Went to see a movie there this weekend and was surprised that the prices went down again. $5 for first show. Not as good as before when it was discounted for any show before 6, but it's a start. Think I'll start going here again. I like that there's parking and I don't have to go downtown to see a movie. Gave it 4 stars because it's in need of updating. read more

The only reason I went here was because it was the only theater in all of Seattle that wasn't sold out of Dark Knight tickets for the next 897789 weeks. The sound went out a few times. Bummer! But I sat next to a dork in a camo-print kilt, so.. I feel my money was well spent. read more

Hey? What's going on over here? Apparently Oak Tree Cinemas is not going to go quietly into that good night... I was sure that after the fancy new Thornton Place opened up around the corner with all it's restaurants and neon and other glittering finery that poor little Oak Tree was going to go down the drain...which kind of sucked because although it was kind of a pit, it was my pit- I've seen a lot of movies here over the years and even though it wasn't the prettiest place or the cleanest place and, yeah, getting to the bathrooms is a complete pain in the ass, especially if you're in the middle of a movie because you have to go all the way upstairs and then through some sort of lavatory labyrinth, I liked it here because it was never all that crowded. But it looks like the little engine that could is trying to brighten themselves up. They seem a lot cleaner now and they got some new seats in the auditorium I was in and there was something else that I couldn't put my finger on that was all right. A little competition in the marketplace is good- I hope that this place sticks around and keeps on keeping on with their face lift. (This place would get 4 stars if the bathroom situation was better) read more

OH YA! I love that I know what to expect and get what I expect here! Even if the movie is weird or bad, I love the popcorn and the soda pop I can get and be inside when the weather outside is bad. Every once in a while, they have some fantastic movies that come through and I get to see them without a lot of the crowds and fanfare of the downtown new theatres. PARKING: They have their own parking lot and I have always gotten parking. LOCATION: It's in a strip mall, so there are lot of food places if you get there early...Chinese (and you can have a drink of rum or TEQUILA or 2 before or after the movie), Mexican, Asian Teriyaki, pancakes and sandwiches...and so on. So, it's a nice place in North Seattle on Aurora & 100th. COST: Well, I think all the movies cost the same. I go to the matinees when I can, to get the reduced rates. Love the pop and popcorn. Mmm... QUALITY: I like that they have a few theatres under one roof. I think there are at least 5, if not 6 movies going on at the same time. The seats are comfy and have little cup holders for your rum...um...I mean soda. :) RETURN?: Oh ya...I'm a regular there. If there's a movie that I want to see, that's where I'll go since it's close to Green Lake, where I live. read more

The screen is dark. I've seen three movies here in three auditoriums. It seems like their projectors just aren't bright enough for the auditoriums. The new seats are lovely, and the remodel is pretty great. But, I just can't take the murky screen image anymore. I won't be back. read more

This AMC theatre is super old and it genuinely needs repairs and makeovers. Based on today's standards and standards of other AMC theatres in downtown, this is really on the lower side. The signs outside the theatre and inside the theatre that show movie names are pretty old, dim and is last appealing. There was some issue with the projector so the movie started late and I could see the crews shadow on the screen for a long time even after they directed the projector. Their taking was kind of distracting. Not many people in the theatre- actually not any people, I watched the movie alone. Note we know why not many people go top this AMC theatre. Especially on weekday mornings, tickets are $6 and you can watch the movie all alone, that's a good thing. Good thing though, they have parking and you always get parking because the lot is big. read more

Just watched a film here over the Memorial Day weekend and I was very pleasantly surprised ! The place from the outside looks like a back to the future episode the 1980's but the total experience is excellent. The tickets are moderately priced, it's clean, it has a great concession area including the much maligned something like butter dispensers for your popcorn near the theater entrances. Clean theaters and restrooms without the funky "what is that smell" experience you get in many theaters. The screens about half to three quarters the size of most modern theaters but then with a smaller theater the noise level from the crowd is cut down. Also the seats are a bit smaller which is OK as they are still very comfortable. Lots of parking and perfect for a low stress experience. If you are taking a group particularly with kids, this place will save you a lot of money. The crowning experience was finding my favorite mid-1990's video game in the lobby ! AREA 51 ! YES YES !!! Humm - Basically pretty much what everone else said. I was VERY uncomfortable in the seats. They were totally worn out you could feel the springs in the cushions. Seems like lotsa folks compare this to a downtown theaters. I compare it to the Alderwood ones. The price is the same (I guess I missed the Matinee) $9.50 for that dump... Ya the bathrooms are in a wired place, and the sound on the previews seemed really loud. Looked like the screen was damaged (there was a spot on it and this kinda' shinny spot when the movie was on) I won't be going again until they remodel. read more

This is my new old favorite theater. Plenty of parking, super friendly staff. Clean, not crowded. Good prices. Also if you're going on the weekend there is an International House of Pancakes, which is lively and very reasonably priced. Breakfast before or lunch or dinner after the movies is a delight. read more

Went to the Oak Tree and watched "Blended" with Adam Sandler. It was a great movie and really funny! They kissed at the end. I loved that movie so that means this theater is really good read more

A long time ago, I' had a few issues here with the movie just suddenly stopping, and once the fire alarm went off with 20 minutes left of a movie (it's okay, it was Lady in the Water, so I'm sure I didn't miss much. Yeah, I've never gone back to see the end of it.) But lately, every experience has been a really good one. From the ticket cashier being friendly , to the concession cashier doing annoying-free up sale attempts. The theatres have been clean and tidy, as have the bathroom. My popcorn's always hot and fresh, and the theatre climates have been mild. I hate freezing my butt off during a movie. It pulls me out of my film going experience. I'm glad I didn't give up on this place. read more

We used to drive alle the way from Ballard to Factoria for a decent and reasonably overpriced theater. Now that AMC Oak Tree 6 is renovated we love it, and it is much more convenient! Comfortable reclining seats. Good picture and sound. Clean. It is our new favorite theater. read more

My husband and I just went to see a movie here. It was great and I loved it. The seats were really nice and they recline and have large cupholders. You do have to reserve your seat in advance, which we made a mistake and sat in someone else's seat - which was awkward. Our fault though. Overall it was good and enjoyed the film! Definitely would choose to go here if you are looking for a place to go see a movie. read more

If it wasn't the closest movie theater to me, I'd probably pass it by. First, the parking is terrible. The parking lot is split up into different sections and the movie theater seems to have received the smallest slice. If I go on a Friday night, I count on parking behind the theater. Once inside, the only thing that's out of the ordinary is that the bathroom is on the second floor. Actually, it's the only thing on the second floor. The theater itself is a bit dated, the seats are a bit uncomfortable compared with the newer theaters. On the positive side, with a grocery store right next door, it practically begs you to smuggle snacks inside. Other than the store though, there isn't much to do before or after the movie in the immediate area unless you dig Burgermaster. read more

3 stars is right for this theater. The seats are actually alright and there is easy parking (which is pretty hard to come by in Seattle). The seating isn't stadium style, and it's not the fanciest theater in town. However, it seems that most people head to Regal Northgate and this theater is a bit hidden, which makes the theater not too crowded! The theater is a bit old and it shows. At my last movie here (Captain America), the sound wasn't working during some of the previews, but they were able to fix eventually. They're also now affiliated with AMC, so if you have an AMC Stubs card, you can get points here. read more

This is a moderatley-sized mutliple theatre complex which shows a number of motion pictures. It's never really crowded, so I go. It's no more/less dirtier, friendlier nor niftier than the next place we flock to pay upwards of $20.00 to sit in a scummy chair and watch a movie while we consume refreshments that are billed at 22-times their real value. The parking lot is rarely full, and it's nearly unheard of to be unable to get a seat here. The biggest detractor is that there is one area for the restrooms....and you have to go upstairs (in a one-level movie theatre) to use them. Neato. read more

They totally remodeled this theater and it's awesome! Recliner seats, clean, great screen views from all seats. It was a little confusing when we walked in because there is no ticket booth, you just buy your tickets from the kiosks, or from the concessions stand, but it was easy enough. We're coming back to this theater. read more
