This dated, basic theater is an absolute joy. Yes, it's a little shabby, and depending on which house you're in, the seating can be a bit cramped. But it's clean and well-maintained, has a nice mix of mainstream and art-house films, offers bulk candy, and is staffed by universally nice people. I ordered a coffee once and assumed I'd need to pop back out to the lobby in five minutes to pick it up--imagine my shock when someone *came and found me* at my seat instead. (Yes, this was before the show.) It was wholly unnecessary, and just the kind of small human touch that makes the Crest such a pleasure. Also, you know how at huge megaplexes you actually have to go track down an employee to report a sound or projection problem? (Or if, say, the wrong film is playing entirely, as happened to me at Thornton Place last summer?) Doesn't happen here because they actually pay attention. I've only ever experienced a couple of technical issues here anyway, and each time the staff was already on top of it. read more

we showed up on Memorial Day weekend having purchase tickets online, at 1:05 PM for a 120 show. The line was may be about a block long. Only one line, so we waited patiently. Turns out the line had to be processed by two cash registers, who were taking food orders. There was no line for ticket holders who wanted to get to their seats. Both the manager and the general manager did nothing to move the line along, even though the movie started. We sat a few minutes into the movie, we should've just walked right in, but we wanted to scan the tickets. Honestly, the most nonsensical and unfriendly Service I've had in a movie theater for a long time. They offered apologies but no explanation why they couldn't have a separate line for ticket holders who are not interested in buying food. They gave us three passes as "compensation" but the shabby nature of the theater and the poor customer service make it unlikely that I will ever return. read more

I had a horrible experience there. Let's just say I won't be back for a very long time. But here's the thing....not only will the theatre lose my business, but whenever I went -- which was often -- I would swing by the new bookstore to check out the merch, I would buy a beer or two at the brewery across the street, I would indulge in whichever food truck cuisine happened to be parked in front, or instead of beer, I would buy a cup of coffee across the street. Now? They have all lost my business because there is no reason to be in that area without the theatre. People just don't know the trickle down effect of bad customer service. Have been going here for years - their ticket prices have recently gone way up. They also gouge you with outrageous snack / popcorn prices...$11 for a small bag. Crest Cinema is a "seasoned" theater, perhaps an institution. It's worn in and comfortable like a sweatshirt you've had for a decade, and it still feels good to wear. It seems to be filling a niche for art cinema showing movies that you might night find at the two big chains in the Seattle area. Tuesday nights are value night on tickets. Been a favorite theater for years. New chairs, very tight space for legs now. I'm almost 6' tall, nothing extraordinary. The seats block even getting into the seating because it's blocked by the handrail. Can't even get up to let someone into the inner further seats by the wall. U have to get out into aisle & that is next to impossible because of new seats. Crazy dangerous if there were a fire alarm or some other disaster I'm sure. Always enjoyed The Crest well before being a Shoreliner for over 15 years now. Free theater and street parking available. Wide variety of recent movies at discount prices plus they take debit/credit cards too.Ticket and concession staff are super friendly. Late this afternoon on a whim stopped by and checked what movies were being featured. Score - 20 minutes before "Hidden Figures" started! Bought a ticket and cheesy nachos (instead of popcorn). Noticed the theater I was in was clearly updated...nice cushy seats and no sticky floors! There's also a few spots nearby to also enjoy before or after The Crest: 7-11 (I like Super Big Gulps), Café Aroma (dorky name, but decent coffee), and Ridgecrest Pub (they have Rachel's Ginger Beer and rotating food trucks from 5-9pm, especially Saturdays with Chebogz Filipino Cuisine!). ***Now if only Sears would close, expand Appassionato Coffee, add a bookstore, add rotating food trucks, clone The Crest to take its place by Central Market, by bus lines, lots of parking. At the large cineplexes i have to wear earplugs but not here! Easy to find pkg if u come weekdays during the day when most are working. This local theater is truly iconic and a great joy to watch movies in. On the outside, the place may look a bit run down but inside, it is very well renovated. There is also plenty of parking next to the theater. They show many movies that are not mainstream, which is an extra perk. I came here for an afternoon showing of RBG, for only $4. read more

This is an older historic theater so you won't find all the bells and whistles that the newer theaters offer... The Crest may not offer reclining seats or the hottest movies upon release (movies playing at the Crest have normally been release for a couple weeks already.) But what you will find is... $4 movies, the best popcorn with REAL butter, a popcorn seasoning station with several varieties to choose from and a local neighborhood feel. As a side note, the Crest has been gradually doing some remodeling. So some of the movie rooms have been updated with cushy comfy seats. Yes... the comfy seats do not recline and in some of the movie rooms, the rows are a little close to each other so leg room may be minimal but hey... It's $4! The theater is located in a neighborhood in Shoreline. They have a parking lot, as well as street parking is available. Overall, love this theater and will continue to support this business! read more

You cannot beat the price at this theatre ($3 woohoo!). Granted you have to wait a bit longer than at the regular expensive $11 theatres, but it's worth the wait. Location & parking are fabulous as well. They have two parking lots, one on each side of the movie theatre as well as loads of street parking if the lots are full. The seats are a bit uncomfortable (old, worn out) and there is little leg room. And each theatre is pretty small, which doesn't really make a difference to me. But again, the price is $3 and it's definitely worth it! read more

I love this theater. I have been here multiple times. Every screening is $3. Each room size is comparable with a typical theater room. It may not look "fancy" as some other theaters or its seats may not be the most comfortable but it surely is a good bargain. There are just about enough theater parking in its lot. The Crest isn't fancy, but it's not supposed to be. That's the point, after all. This older, not-recently-remodeled theater in the heart of Shoreline is famous for its $4 movies. The screens aren't huge, the sound isn't the best, and parking sucks. But you know if they changed any of that they'd have to start charging more! So I was more than happy on a recent Saturday to enjoy a screening of Yesterday with good-but-sometimes-murky sound, a non-HD screen, and lumpy seats. At 25% of the cost of a "normal" theater, the experience was still fine and dandy. read more

I love the Crest. It is an institution. My husband introduced me to this place when we were dating. He became a fan in the 60s. When we lived in Seattle the Crest was a weekly event. The seats used to be very uncomfortable but they were updated a few years ago. I am fitting in a movie, Wild Rose, while visiting. Women's bathroom is up the stairs. Keep this in mind if stairs are a problem. The movies at the Crest vary, including independent films, but they always second run. read more

The Crest is a vintage must for movie fans who want something outside the cookie cutter shopping mall mega-cinema. Prices are 1/4 or less of what I expect at most cinemas, partly because movies tend to show up here between their main theater run and DVD release. I'd put it this way. If going to your average mega-cinema is like going to McDonalds, this is like going to your local favorite greasy spoon diner. Maybe there are less options on the menu, maybe it doesn't have reclining lazy boys to sit in, but you leave with something unique and interesting, having had the experience of the movie, and the experience of the old school theater. It's the indie rockband of theaters. Also, they have a scoop your own snack bin section sold by weight, as well as more standard soda and popcorn, candy, and frozen treat options. The Crest is a Seattle -- ok a bit further north, Shoreline-- institution. And one of the remaining theaters in the area that show films that weren't written for 16 year old boys. (I think they do show a few of these too-- but you can still find smaller, indie films here.) Tickets are 4$. Yes, 4$. If you're looking for new & shiny go to the Regal Thornton Place monstrosity in Northgate. But if you like quaint, funky, friendly staff, and don't mind seeing films a bit later (it's a second run theater...), by all means join me at the Crest. I am definitely biased, because I live five minutes or less away. But this is by far one of the golden treasures of Shoreline. It's a four dollar movie theater, with movies that are just as popular as some of the other theaters. Perhaps they get there a little bit later than the others, but if you're not someone who needs to see it on opening day I think it doesn't matter. I enjoy the staff, I have never had a problem getting in with snacks. I think that they even upgraded a few elements of the theater as time has gone by. This is a fantastic spot if you are already in Shoreline, And if you are just wanting a affordable movie night then this is also another win for you! read more

LOVE this theater! Fingers crossed Landmark doesn't screw us & suddenly close it like they did the Guild 45th & Seven Gables! (Or sell it like they did the Harvard Exit, which I still mourn.) They have 4 screens, 2 large, 2 small. NOTE: If you're tall, AVOID SCREEN 3 There is next to no room for knees & long legs. I'm only 5' 7" & it was literally painful to sit through a movie when I felt like a sardine! There is simply no room to adjust yourself & try to become more comfortable. - And these are newer seats, too! What were they thinking???! Okay, that said, the other screens are great! Add in their super yummy popcorn & the fantastic gallery of b/w photos of movie stars, & you have a special, unique cinema. I've been going here for many years. Highly recommended! Oh, one other note... While they do have 2 small parking lots, if it's a busy time, be sure to allow yourself extra time to look for street parking. There's plenty in the neighborhood, but you may have to walk a few blocks. (The popcorn is worth it though!). read more

I love that this theater is doing well! There are few theaters around today like it. If you can stand to wait a few extra weeks to see a box office hit, this is a great affordable way to do that on the big screen and with yummy movie theater popcorn! Value is what makes this place a five-star cinema. I love being able to see movies so cheaply on the big screen. What this place is not is fancy in any way. I have been coming here for 20 years and they do not appear to have changed anything at all except the oil in the popcorn machine, and the price, which is now $3 instead of $2. For all my movie love, I still perpetually end up with a list of movies I'd be curious to see, but either miss them during their first run or can't quite bring myself to pony up the $11 during their first run. So it seems like every time I look at the Crest's showtimes, something's playing that sounds like a no-brainer for $3. That's a very personal thing to base a love of a theater on; other movie-lovers tend to either get out there for new movies or content themselves to wait for DVD/Blu-Ray, I imagine. But, still, the Crest tends to get pretty full for a lot of showings, and that's a comfort to me, because I don't want this place to go anywhere. When I lived downtown, I managed to see almost all my big-studio movies at second-run houses; between the Crest and the late, lamented UA 150/250, you can keep up pretty easily with the mainstream fare without spending a ton. That saves your movie-going dollar for art house and independent stuff. So, anyway, the cinema itself: Screens: perfectly fine Sound: Perfectly adequate Smell/cleanliness: floors can get a little sticky. Not a lot of trash-out crews between shows, so later showings can get a little untidy some nights. But I always have to have this stuff pointed out to me, tbph. Never bugs me. Seats: old and creaky in the back auditoriums. Somewhat old and creaky in the big room near the lobby, too, but that room has some big plushed-out captain's chairs toward the back, which are shabby 70s swank to be sure. Always the desirable seating option. Coming to the Crest means getting to see the big Hollywood stuff that might not merit $11, and still seeing it on a big screen with a somewhat enveloping sound system (more speakers than my living room, anyway). Special-effects extravaganzas might not be the best choice here, since a newer, bigger, flashier sound system might do them greater justice. But this is a great place for a movie that's lower on the stunts/FX quotient. You get chatty neighbors sitting nearby here, but that seems to show up in all cinemas these days. For an evening out for two, $6 versus $22 makes this an indispensable part of the entertainment budget for me. read more

Dollar theater!! The answer to the sky high prices for overpriced mega-over CGI, over the top 3-D IMAX movie prices! Well, so its not quite a dollar ($3) but its still pretty darn cheap to go here. Most of the flicks are second run but they also run a few recently released indie flicks here as well. My review may be a bit un-objective as this theater enabled me to go see Much Ado About Nothing, which premiered while i was out of the country and had been out of most theaters for some time, but Crest Cinema rules! I find that most of the movies I want to see tend to come out in blocks, and so I always miss some of them cuz I don't have enough time. Crest seems like a great way to catch up on the movies you weren't able to catch right away, and also save a butt-load of money. I have only been there once so I have only been in one theater, but ours seemed fine to me. The seats are the old fashioned style, and some of them are in non-optional recliner mode, but the people in those seats didn't seem annoyed. It's a $3 ticket, so its a-ok by me. We went on a Saturday night and the theater and parking lot werent intensely crowded. Looking forward to my next $3 second-run movie! read more

The positives quite the favorable service (4.5 stars)/ movie ( maybe it's because we picked it , my mom mostly 2 stars) but it was projected correctly. The negatives would be how tight the movie seats are in the isles and that there quite basic seats . The pricey concession stand where you also get the movie tickets and are very pricey considering that you could get way cheaper snacks and drink from the seven eleven across the street. Yep, I love the cheap tickets, and I get to feel like a good mom for taking my kids to the movies! Total win. High fives all around. True, ticket prices were raised to 4 bucks a pop. But, come on folks, I can dig that out of my sofa. And with that price increase the concessions have also changed quite a bit. They've got a serve yourself candy bulk bin thing going on, and now they've starting serving beer and wine. This is great if you're stuck seeing a kids movie! No actually most of the movies played at Crest are artsy and cool, even the children's. So it's a win win situation here. Like I said, high fives all around. Sure, it's somewhat old-timey and retro BUT hey man, it's a great value and awesome popcorn! I heard the pretzel is stuffed but someone try it for me please(!) Me and my friend went here for In A World and enjoyed it... that could be due in part to us sitting at the very top with those comfy seats which every row below it didn't appear to have. Nonetheless, like I said above and pretty good staff. Also, it's similar to parking for Central Cinema in Capital Hill except they have a decent lot for customers (the rest is street parking). read more

The Crest seems like it's really gone *uphill* over the years. We went to see Ready Player One on a Saturday night and wow, it was absolutely packed. We got there about 10m before (due to not being able to find parking anywhere) and the theater must have been 80% full. They have those fancy popcorn seasonings so you can load you popcorn up with butter and then add even more flavor to it after! I'm pretty sure they also remodeled some of the theaters too because I don't remember the seats having leather-lined seats the last time I was here... Anyway, they're actually *really* friendly here. When the last movie gets out, they purposely make a huge bag of popcorn to refill any moviegoers bags who want a fresh/full bag to take home. They even managed to squeeze out the last bit of butter topping for me! They were managing about 15 different customers at the end of the movie, but were still incredibly pleasant and happy to be refilling everyones sodas and popcorns to take home. read more

We would come here again. Pluses: - Price. $4. Wow - Movies. Two movies were being shown that I couldn't find playing elsewhere in Seattle. - Comfortable seats. (at least in the theatre we used). - pre-movie highlights. Short, with only two previews. And a live human being came out front to ask us to enjoy the show and to turn off our cellphones. Cons: - We were in one of the 2 smaller theatres in the "complex". TIP: get there early for a good view, because the view from many of the seats was sub-optimum - though acceptable. - Bathrooms. I ended up going here last saturday to watch the movie Tangled with my girlfriend. I was looking for a good movie to see in the theaters, but I didn't really see anything that caught my eye. I've been meaning to go to this theater for a long time, but it seems like it ended out working out for me to go here many years later. The theater has a run down feeling to it, cause it seems so old. The thing that really stands out about this place is the price of a ticket. It's only $3 dollars. If you're looking for a theater experience and you missed it at another theater, this is a great place to catch it. Some of the movies that they were playing here were already out on DVD, but I would come back again for another date, or an epic movie that you'd want to see on the big screen. read more
