    Bar was closed :-(
    Tamara G.

We had bought tickets in Oct for a special screening of a film that was only showing for three days at this theater in the IMAX. The entire theater was basically deserted when we entered on a Friday evening at 4:30. We were hoping to grab a beer at the bar inside, given that it was a Friday night near Christmas. However, at 4:30 the bar was still closed, and when I finally tracked down a teenage worker at the concession stand, she said that the bartender called off & the bar would not be open, much to our dismay. The sound in the theater was good, and the movie quality was good in IMAX. I was surprised though that the seats were just the cushy rocking type and were not recliners like my local theater. Obviously , as many people are aware, not that many people go out to movies anymore these days. When this theater opened it was a huge thing and in its hey Day. They used to have a full bar upstairs and you could order appetizers and bring them in during the movie. I'm guessing all of that is gone now. Anyway everything was fine, the theater probably had only sold about 15 tickets for the movie I was at! It's the way it is these days in most theaters.

Currently under construction. The ticket counter is now lined with self serve kiosks. The bar was closed, we were told there wasn't anyone to run it that night? The theater was clean and the movie played with no issue. We'll try again when the construction is over.

I recently came to a Sunday matinee movie at the AMC Waterfront. I hadn't been to the movies in a long time (almost 5 years!!), so I wasn't sure what to expect. I purchased my ticket online prior to my arrival. When I arrived, the theater wasn't too crowded. I didn't see any staff at the front desk so it appears to all be self service now. The concession stand has the usual offerings. Once in the theater, my seat was comfortable but still no reclining seats which is fine by me. The movie played fine with no issues or interruptions.

Built for pre-pandemic times, the theatre is HUGE. The lobby was empty for Dune2 on IMAX. The kids' pack was Nine dollars for a cup of popcorn and a tiny drink. No wonder people don't want to go to the movies any more.

I love this movie theatre so much! This is one of the only movie theaters in Pittsburgh that offers Dolby Cinema (which if you haven't experienced yet, it is VERY worth it). The also have an IMAX theater as well. We went to go see the Lost City last Friday and had a very enjoyable time. Since we were coming straight from dinner, we decided not to get any popcorn, food, candy, or drinks. But we usually get the popcorn, which is always amazing, and we have had a fantastic experience trying the flatbread pizza as well! Also, just being back in the movie theaters after them being shut down for so long is so refreshing, and it really beats just watching them at home! Can't wait to come back here when new movies are released!

Me catching a movie at AMC.

We showed up for a Saturday lunch ahead of a snow storm, and the overall experience was good. The staff were friendly. There were clearly some number of regulars around. The space is a bit old and drafty, but that just adds a level of character. In terms of the food, we ordered a few salads and a half reuben (part of the lunch special), plus an Italian flatbread. Nothing was exceptional, but everything was nicely prepared and presented. The vegetables in the salad were fresh and crisp. The flatbread was good but not particularly noteworthy. My partner liked the rueben, but thought it could use a little more sauerkraut. The Guinness was fresh and nicely poured. All told, this was a good experience. Understand that this is more of a neighborhood hang than a destination, but it excels at filling that role.

There's plenty to see and explore, making it a genuinely fun place to visit. There was also a good amount of seating, and the quiet ambiance made it easy to have a conversation at a normal volume. The staff were attentive and engaged throughout our visit. Brian is an incredible bartender who clearly takes pride in his craft. The bar's space was renovated to transport customers to the secrecy of the Prohibition era. Through OpenTable, I made a reservation for my husband and me. We entered the building through a side entrance on Amity Street, checked in with an employee at a desk, and then waited for another employee to walk us to the 100-year-old elevator (it still works!). On the fourth floor, we saw old bank items such as safety deposit boxes and mechanical check printers. We pushed a button to turn a clock handle to a certain time, and then a hidden door opened. We entered the bar, and two bartenders, Ryan and Robbie, greeted us. The menu listed vodkas, gins, tequilas, mezcals, liquors, bourbons, ryes, rums, seasonal drinks, and mocktails. Food could be ordered from the Puerto Rican restaurant Secretos De Mis Abuelos that is located elsewhere in the building. The bar consisted of a few rooms, each of which had glamorous interior design such as antique furniture, wallpaper with bold patterns, paintings, and dimly lit lamps. Beyond the bar was the Library, which had shelves of books and an old radio. The bartenders patiently repeated to us that we should pull a certain book to open another secret door that would lead us to the Red Room. We finally figured out which book to pull, and we walked down stairs to a parlor with rich, red hues, plush seating, and (at least at that time) a more private, quiet setting. I ordered the French martini (vodka, Chambord, pineapple juice, raspberry vanilla shrub, and raspberries) and the Painkiller (spiced rum, coconut rum and cream, pineapple juice, orange juice, and nutmeg), and I rate them both as 5 stars. Each of those drinks cost $13 plus tax, credit-card fee, and tip.
