We had bought tickets in Oct for a special screening of a film that was only showing for three days at this theater in the IMAX. The entire theater was basically deserted when we entered on a Friday evening at 4:30. We were hoping to grab a beer at the bar inside, given that it was a Friday night near Christmas. However, at 4:30 the bar was still closed, and when I finally tracked down a teenage worker at the concession stand, she said that the bartender called off & the bar would not be open, much to our dismay. The sound in the theater was good, and the movie quality was good in IMAX. I was surprised though that the seats were just the cushy rocking type and were not recliners like my local theater. Obviously , as many people are aware, not that many people go out to movies anymore these days. When this theater opened it was a huge thing and in its hey Day. They used to have a full bar upstairs and you could order appetizers and bring them in during the movie. I'm guessing all of that is gone now. Anyway everything was fine, the theater probably had only sold about 15 tickets for the movie I was at! It's the way it is these days in most theaters. read more

A lot of people told me not to go to the waterfront movie theater, but we went anyway because it was the only one with seats available for the movie we wanted to see. We should've known that was a red flag. On a Saturday night at 6 PM there were only two cashiers for the entire place. The line was wrapped to the back of the theater. There was also literally police with bullet poof vests and guns stalking around, so that felt terrible. And lastly, the theatre was THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE THEATRE I have ever been in. You're packed in like sardines and the seats are so uncomfortable and small, I felt like I watched a 2 hour movie in the middle seat of an airplane. I will legitimately never go back there. I recently came to a Sunday matinee movie at the AMC Waterfront. I hadn't been to the movies in a long time (almost 5 years!!), so I wasn't sure what to expect. I purchased my ticket online prior to my arrival. When I arrived, the theater wasn't too crowded. I didn't see any staff at the front desk so it appears to all be self service now. The concession stand has the usual offerings. Once in the theater, my seat was comfortable but still no reclining seats which is fine by me. Replying to owner: I have contacted you guys. I wasn't even offered an apology. To start this review, I want to state that I am someone who is disabled and use a cane as a mobility device. On April 18, I attended a movie here. Upon entering the auditorium, the temperature was extremely high with little to no air circulation. The environment felt around 80°F and became physically intolerable. I exited the auditorium and asked to move to another movie or whether management could confirm if the issue was affecting multiple theaters. I was informed that management would "work on" fixing the air conditioning. By that point, I had already missed some of the movie and would miss more by the time it was fixed. So I offered to just go to another movie that was starting then. She told me that this other movie that just started was in theater 15 so I walked over there. I was in severe pain when walking to theater 15 which was quite far from the theater I was in. This is a very, very large theater. When I got to theater 15, it was an entirely different movie that was about halfway through. I then started to walk back to the young woman, but could no longer tolerate walking. I leaned up against the wall to ease the pain, and I called down to her to ask what theater it was in. She began to check, but could not figure it out. So I just said I'll take a refund if you can get your manager. A few minutes later the manager, Curtis, along with two very large security guards began to approach me. I found the presence of security in this context unnecessary and distressing given that I was visibly disabled and using a cane with my back against the wall. I was not exhibiting any threatening behavior--only requesting assistance and a refund. Instead of resolving the situation in an accessible manner, Curtis stated I was required to walk extensively across the facility again while I was in severe pain due to my disability. When I explained I could not safely walk that distance due to my condition, I was told the refund could only be processed if I did so, despite my limitations. I was told a gift card was the only alternative if I wouldn't walk with him. I did not want a gift card as I didn't want to come back to the theater give him my experience and the only other AMC theaters are about an hour away. I even offered to give him my phone and my credit card to process the refund and he refused. When we arrived at the ticket counter for my refund, I was in excruciating pain. I provided my phone with the ticket and my credit card to the person behind the counter. Because of how much pain I was in and being forced to walk there, I stated to Curtis that this felt very abusive. His voice raised and became hostile. He stated "this isn't abuse, I know what abuse is, you wanna know what abuse is?!?!" at that point I became scared. Curtis then proceeded to whisper to the woman behind the counter at the other end. I asked if they were processing my refund or what was going on. He then yelled at me sharply and said "be quiet!" Then a security cards came up to me as I was standing there hobbled holding onto my cane. And he said, "you better be quiet. Stop talking! you're being difficult." My difficulty to them was being disabled. I was terrified. Then, I am given a gift card. Not the refund that I was told I would get and walked all the way over to the other end of the theater to retrieve. And it was for less than what I paid This experience caused pain, humiliation, physical and emotional harmful, and was deeply distressing and disturbing. read more

This theater cannot get over 4-stars for the simple fact that it is not updated. It is 2025 and my seat does not recline... Not going to lie, that's a problem for me. Was the theater nice, fairly clean and did I see paid for movie, yes. But for as much as tickets cost and the amount that I'm paying for food and drinks also... The theater is under major construction. The lobby is chopped up because of it. Not taking any of the construction issues into consideration. Maybe the construction will address the issues noted. Maybe it won't. First, the chairs are extremely uncomfortable. In this age of reclining, cushy seats, AMC was anything but. Much more narrow than my regular theater but width wasn't the issue. There was limited leg room between the rows. Guy in back of me had his knees in my headrest the whole film. There was a bar at the base of my seat that dug into my hips when sitting upright. Had to scoot forward and lean back to avoid it. Nearly full theater (STANS, the Eminem movie, limited theater release) so no option to change seats. Screen was fine but not as large as other theaters it seemed. Sound was good. Best part of the experience. Bathroom off the lobby was filthy. Stinky, unflushed toilets, paper everywhere, dryers that didn't work, doors didn't lock, no where to hang a purse. Truly nasty. Maybe the doors and dryers will be fixed in the reno but the filthy conditions are not part of construction. Would rather go to any other theater than back here. Maybe if reviews are good after reno and a limited release movie is shown there but otherwise, no. read more

Gotta lower my rating/assessment of this theater. We live in a much more robust AMC market (DC area) but come to Pgh often for family, and it's become increasingly clear that this theater leans heavily on the fact that all of the other AMCs are "Classic" branded locations, which is the way they keep smaller, very old locations without updating them too much. This location is not that - it's a veritable movie palace, but it is falling into disrepair. To keep it brief: -A small complaint, but the architecture of this location baffles me - No dedicated A-list concession lanes - Concessions area is badly laid out and congested - No Macguffins bar, there's a "cafe" but I have never seen it open -Poor selection of popcorn buckets -Theaters are in need of an update, need better seats and the layouts are extremely strange -Bathrooms are worse than most AMC locations and in desperate need of update If this is the Pittsburgh area's only fully fledged AMC, investment is needed. As an A-list member, I was disappointed. read more

This place used to be awesome--circa 2010. It was somewhere I genuinely loved to go. It felt special. Almost magical. Fast forward: I've returned to the area after 15 years away, and now the theater is "under renovation," supposedly to modernize the space. Way to be late to the party. In the meantime, it feels dim, grimy, and borderline depressing. Wait, I have to get my own soda? Am I in a theater or a McDonald's? And let's talk popcorn. They hand you a fully packed bag--then expect you to pour your own "butter" on top. So I sit down, eat through an oily layer that's tolerable thanks to the topping, then happen upon the absolute worst-tasting popcorn. Somehow both burnt and cold? The only person who was even remotely friendly was the dude who checked my ticket--not that I expect anyone behind the concession stand to be friendly on the hourly rate they're probably making while being left understaffed, replaced by customizable soda machines and self-serve butter pumps. All served up in the name of "customer convenience," which, of course, is just corporate overlord speak for cost-cutting = shareholder dividends. And that lack of staff? It doesn't just kill the atmosphere--it kills the moviegoing experience itself. While watching 28 Years Later (in the dated theater), someone took a call off to the right of the theater, and the three people sitting directly to my left kept checking their phones, lighting up the row with multiple devices--including a flashing red-and-blue earpiece, looking like we were at a discount rave. So in addition to everything else, I couldn't even enjoy the one reason I went. No policy enforcement or experience monitoring--which, admittedly, would be hard to do when you've swapped out your staff for touchscreen soda machines and DIY butter pumps. Lastly, this was the most expensive movie ticket I've bought in several many years--and that's saying something, because I usually buy through Fandango, which throws a convenience fee on top of the ticket price. Bought direct and was still taken aback! No doubt they'll want to charge even more once they complete renovations and finally join the 21st century. You want to modernize something? Start with your pothole-riddled hellscape of a parking lot. AMC... [insert "Superstar (You're Horrible)" remix here] I'll be avoiding this place like a plague-ridden town of yore. If I'm ever obligated to go--guilt-tripped by a friend or family member--I'll first have to re-evaluate the relationship. How could they put me in that position if they truly loved me? And if I choose to go instead of ghosting them, there will be stipulations: - It will be during half-priced days or times. - They'll have to pick me up and drive (if they're comfortable adding the cost of a new suspension system to the price of admission, so be it). - And I guess I'll just get nachos? Though, by the time I make it back, I'll probably be expected to pump my own room-temp "cheese" and fry my own tortilla chips--because, you know, customer convenience. read more

Built for pre-pandemic times, the theatre is HUGE. The lobby was empty for Dune2 on IMAX. The kids' pack was Nine dollars for a cup of popcorn and a tiny drink. No wonder people don't want to go to the movies any more. read more

I won't return. The line to get any food is outrageous, only one register on a Saturday night. Online it says after 6pm under a certain age needs to be accompanied by an adult and that they check IDs to confirm age, well that wasn't true because kids and teenagers were running all in the theatre, movie hopping, smoking, on FaceTime, making phone calls during the movie. Perfect location, mostly friendly staff, excellent theatre experience. Two of us watched a 4pm showing on a Friday afternoon. Got there early so we bought our tickets and stepped outside to visit other businesses in the area. Inside the concession staff were friendly and the product offerings were diverse and met our needs. The prices are high, very high for the area and product size. A $17 pretzel - not worth it! The restrooms were clean. The theatre seats were excellent! The ticket taking agent was a lump on a log and needs customer service training. The venue is getting a full makeover which is awesome to see and appreciate (guess that is why the pretzel is $17). I love this movie theatre so much! This is one of the only movie theaters in Pittsburgh that offers Dolby Cinema (which if you haven't experienced yet, it is VERY worth it). The also have an IMAX theater as well. We went to go see the Lost City last Friday and had a very enjoyable time. Since we were coming straight from dinner, we decided not to get any popcorn, food, candy, or drinks. But we usually get the popcorn, which is always amazing, and we have had a fantastic experience trying the flatbread pizza as well! Also, just being back in the movie theaters after them being shut down for so long is so refreshing, and it really beats just watching them at home! Can't wait to come back here when new movies are released! read more

I actively avoid the premium options and the largest standard screens because the quality control is atrocious. The sound is physically painful--legitimately think you're risking hearing loss. Worst theater experience of my life was in this Dolby theater where even the dialogue was so cranked up it sounded like the audio was clipping. Smaller screens are usually okay. read more

Saw Wicked here and it was amazing. Always a great time. Very clean, reasonably priced for a movie theater.

Went to see the " Wicked for Good" movie. Theatre #12. Was so disappointed! The AMC has a discount on Tuesdays at most AMC THEATERS. 14 bucks for a senior ticket! No Discount there! But you only have the option to pay at a machine only!! No special service. No smiling face to tell you where your theatre is located or where to get concessions as the place is Big! They do have special reclining seats but the controls are a digital screen that is sketchy at best. You have an assigned seat, but you may have to move your seats left or right to get the seat controls in functional seats to work. The Movie starts after a Director comes on the screen to give you a tutorial of how and why Dolby Movie theaters are better because visually they are more rich and crisp and the sound was supposed to be Superior to regular Movies. So you go to a movie like this expecting a lot of singing. Most people have seen the first movie where they do this... all of the singing in the movie was all Distorted due to the speaker system malfunctioning. No one wanted to leave their seat to report this thinking it was a temporary thing and it was a glitch.. NOPE NOT THE CASE. So I'm not sure what they do to test the equipment before showing, but it hadn't been done. You could follow the story ok, but the sound was terrible. The only reason we have two stars here is for Sarah at customer service, who's favorite movie is the 5th element. She was so nice, and helpful after our night went to hell. People, watch your kids! There were children running in the aisles, talking the whole movie. And AMC, keep track of teenagers. There were three teenagers SMOKING CIGARETTES IN THE BACK OF THE THEATER half the movie. And when we saw all the smoke and ran from the theater thinking there was an issue, the old lady taking tickets was like "whatchu mean there's smoke" like nothing was wrong. No sense of urgency or concern. We went to customer service to ask for help, and Sarah nicely refunded our money and apologized profusely. Oh well. Back to Cinemark. read more

Attended a movie at the waterfront .. actually first time at this theater. Walked in and was a little confused about where to go - which line to be in ... but the staff helped us find our way. Overall - I felt the theater was clean and bigger than I had thought. Thankfully they pointed us to where we needed to be. We got to our screen - walked in and noticed there was different type of seating. We score led what I would call the "comfy" seating (leather high backs) which they charge extra for ... there are other theaters around the area that have better seating for all and still charge the same ticket price - plus I did not really find them all that comfy after about and hour. Staff/manager not professional. I went to this theater on 7/19/2025 at 3:45 PM to see Superman with my girlfriend. Half way through the movie a large group of loud kids came in and took the rest of the row up. We had been alone in the row until then. I thought they'd calm down but they did not. They were a major distraction with the yelling, joking, kid running back and forth, and not to mention the kids literally slapping and punching each other. I told them they needed to stop and they did not. So I went to tell a manager, the manager then told me I should've not said anything to them and just to come out and report. I guess we can't give people a chance to enjoy a movie they may have paid to see. She told me they'll "monitor the situation". But thankfully when I got back the kids had ran off, probably to new seats. I did see the management come in to watch here and there, so that's good. Just being greeted with attitude by management left a sour taste in my mouth. read more

My 15 yo son and his two friends went to see fantastic four this evening. Of course, his wallet fell out of his pocket and was not allowed back in. I asked if an employee could retrieve it. They were immediately rude and on the defense and said they can't enter a theater once a movie has begun. The movie was not playing the lights were still on. I walked in there myself, apologized to the couple in the next seats and retrieved the wallet. Mind you, the previews were still playing when I left. My son is respectful and would have sat there all night waiting to get this wallet. As we were leaving, here come 5 security guards right behind us. This is the reason things escalate because people love to be confrontational instead of having conflict resolution skills. I later called to speak to a manger "Kevin" who sounded like a kid. When I told him who I was and I wanted to file a complaint he hung up on me. What a surprise! Hire people with at least some common sense, kindness, and Respect. What if that wallet had my son's bus pass or someone's car keys!!!! I'm proud of my son he didn't argue back , didn't get loud or disruptive, he just informed me of the situation. read more

How far have you fallen? This used to be the go-to theater when it opened in 2000 for Pittsburgh. Now the entire second floor is closed off, it used to be a restaurant and bar where you get good food and drinks and enter the theater for the movie you wanted to watch. Not any more, it's all blocked off. Front box office, it's all kiosks and no one is there. Concession stands, it's only one line with a long wait. The location is huge but suffers from downsizing. Movie experience is pretty bad. We got tickets for the Dolby theater. It's supposed to be the best theater in the house with a special entrance. The movie theater isn't sound proof for the adjacent theater. For the entire movie, I heard pretty loud audio from the other theater as a distinct murmur for the entire film. It really took me out of the movie. It's crazy as I've never had this experience before... usually we go to Cinemark in Robinson because of where we live. It was sad honestly. read more

Walking up to the building from the parking lot side , it looks shabby , the paint was either missing or peeling . Then you have to walk to the other side of the building to buy tickets , but there are no humans to be found ,AND , the self serve kiosk wasn't working correctly , it wouldn't recognize the card , so , I wasted almost 5 minutes there , I went to the concessions to ask if someone could help , and was told to just go to customer service . Once there we were told there was no longer ' Reserved Seating ' , it was just first come first seated , even though you HAVE to choose which seats you want on the seating chart , then we went back to the concessions to get popcorn , and drinks . It was hard to get to the counter due to them having a rack of shirts for sale , and shelving with candy blocking your way . Then they only have 4 different combos , and one of them wasn't even available , and it was at almost 5:30 p.m. on Friday , I guess that meant that it wouldn't available the rest of the weekend . Finally we went into the theater , and they had gotten rid of the nice leather reclining seats , and just had regular stiff narrow seats that only slightly reclined back by a few inches , one my wife chose had a broken back , it only stay all the way back , luckily it wasn't crowded so she moved to the other side of me . During the movie I had to go to the bathroom , and since we were near the top , I decided to use the bathroom upstairs , further down the hall were rope line post with signs saying ' DO NOT ENTER , THIS AREA IS CLOSED ' , that area was the part that used to be the bar , and lounge , but more importantly the elevator for handicap access , so , apparently if you handicapped , your only able to access the first 4 rows , I'm not sure if that is a ADA (Americans Disabilities Act ) violation , or not , regardless ,I can guarantee that we will NEVER return to that theater , there is another theater close by , Century Square , where ALL the seats are wide , comfortable , and fully reclining , it's always clean , and there are people to help you right at the front entrance read more

Never thought I'd review a movie theater but maybe it'll help. I go to the movies quite often and recently moved nearby. And I hate this theater so so much. If the cafe is actually open the food is undercooked and gross. I've also ordered food in advance only to arrive to the theater and then tell me they aren't doing food lol. I think in general this place is gaudy and unnecessary. Would rather see a different theater in its place that isn't so damn big but that has recliners and good amenities that other theaters offer. The fact that there are own recliners in the dolby theater, and no tables, is weird. read more
