My husband noticed they were having a showing of Killer Klowns from outer space at 1:05PM on a Thursday. We bought out tickets before the show and the attendants let us check out the theatre first to pick out seats. It's a small theatre, so I appreciated being able to check out which seats had, imho, the best view. The show started on time and the movie was great. They have, draft beer, popcorn, soda, water, candy, etc. You can also bring a beer from bierport into the theatre for a small fee! I would check this theatre out again next time I'm in town. read more

This isn't the ideal forum for this feedback but since I have no other options, I'll leave it here. I imagine someone reading this is just going to a movie and most likely not trying to rent the theater but just in case... I run a conference in Pittsburgh every year and part of my programming included a movie night before an evening party. Last year we rented Row House with no issues. This year I reached out to Cara almost 3 months before the date to reserve. 2 weeks and several follow ups later, I was told they were renovating and revamping the rental system and would have info on March 14th (10 days later). On March 14th I reached back out. And on April 1st. And on April 12th (my conference was the 28th). And on the 15th. On April 8th I just drove down to the theater and spoke to Katie who confirmed my date was available and wasn't sure what was happening with Cara. On April 16th Cara finally replied and told me my date had been given to someone else. At that point I had to scramble to come up with new plans for over 50 people attending my conference. Again, you might not be looking to rent Row House. Unfortunately I have no other platform to describe their incompetence. Now over 50 of my friends will never go there again. And I'm sure they don't care... read more

I love the Row House! It's such a unique little spot. There's only one theater, so they tend to choose a few movies around a theme and screen them throughout the week. The themes are always fun -- Ghibli Week, Tight Pants Appreciation Week, Families Ugh!, and of course Cat Video Fest are some stand outs. We saw a double feature of the Evil Dead 1&2 here around Halloween last year, and it was a blast. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within a couple of blocks on Butler street, so it's easy to grab a bit before, after, or in between showings. The Row House connects to Bierport, so you can snag a craft brew to sip during your showing. The Row House also has a variety of interesting snacks as well as your classic popcorn and soda. Plus every once in a while there's an event going on -- once I walked in and was given a lei (???) for a summer movie event, which is still on my dresser to this day. Overall it always makes for a fun trip to the movie! Highly recommend supporting this cool indie theater read more

Row House has some excellent and thoughtful programming. The room is somewhat small, but it's a big screen. It's a chance to see some great films in a repertory setting, a beautiful reprieve from the huge chains. There's light food, and a bottle shop upstairs. You can join the Film Club, which is a sweet offer. Clean and well managed with great dining opportunities in the neighborhood. read more

Bro! There needs to be more places like this. I was in Bierport one night grabbing a mix six for the hotel room after a walk around Lawrenceville and then we went downstairs to enjoy a cold beer on tap. So after enjoying the beer I went to the bathroom and on the way there I smelled popcorn. That's when I discovered there was a cinema inside. I honestly had no idea they were connected even though I had seen the sign outside many times lol So, the next day we pre-ordered tickets to see the late night showing of Clue. We came early and had a beer downstairs at Bierport and then made our way upstairs to get some popcorn and snacks and head inside to get our seats. I loved watching the movie in such a small cinema. It reminded me of this cool cinema I used to go to when I was in college. They are the best! I can't wait to go back. :) Highly Recommended! read more

This theatre was very nostalgic. It was the perfect theatre to see an old movie. We went to see Rope Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The theatre was small and quaint. They were playing several Hitchcock movies through out the day and according to the schedule had several themed movie days/weeks coming up. The Row House had a full service concession stand and the staff was very friendly. We did not purchase tickets ahead of time and had no problem getting a seat. Street parking could be tricky. The theatre is located in a busy area. The seats were the only thing in theatre that appeared to need some repair/updating. Many were quite worn, but still comfortable. It was so nice to see an older theatre with good attendance. I would definitely go back to see another movie when i am in town. read more

A really unique experience. When our plans cancelled in Pittsburgh, we sought out the local arthouse cinema and we were not disappointed. This ended up being a really cute date night for us as we saw a late night showing of "The Princess Pride" inside this single-theater cinema. Row House is quite literally in a row house. It's slender, with maybe 30 seats total in it? It's a one-screen cinema that has a lot of personality. Could the seats be newer and more comfortable? Sure. But for the price we weren't mad. It's cozy and the moment you walk in you catch a good vibe. It felt fun even before the film started. I loved that Row House Cinema was attached to a wine shop where you could purchase items and literally walk them into the theater (they're connected). They also had a cute snack stand with all the basics, so we grabbed a popcorn and two soft drinks. I loved learning about their breadth of programming and the concessionaire gave us some free stickers. If I were local, I'd totally be a member here or buy a selection of film vouchers! This is a really cool culture stop on your tour of Pittsburgh. Long live independent and arthouse cinema! read more

Technically if you're having a rainy day in Pittsburgh this is where you want to be. I have had plenty of good movies to watch but cult classics on a weekly only gets better. Bierport Tap Room helps a lot. I can honestly say seating is 100% better here than AMC. read more

Visited RHC twice this past weekend (both a late night viewing of Clue on Friday night and a midday viewing of When Harry Met Sally... on Saturday) and both visits were so welcoming and fun! I've been to Row House a few times in the past for some fun movies, but I realized that up until this weekend I hadn't visited since well before the pandemic hit. It's a gem of a theater and is clearly run by movie-lovers, and they do so much to try to encourage people to widen their horizons of film and culture. And the themes are always so fun! Their popcorn and snacks are also delicious, and I love that they include some local treats in addition to classic movie fare. I will say that the seats are a little tight if you're a slightly larger person like myself, but I think the comfort seating options may be slightly wider. I'll try those next time, or the couch seating up in the front! Can't wait to return ASAP! read more

Love this theater! Old school with so much personality! The sound system is awesome and so is the popcorn!!

The pandemic really got me out of visiting the theater until recently when I went with my friend. I'm happy to say that I enjoy this theater as much as I remember. They've done some slight renovations, but they still are a welcoming and friendly place with a nice craft beer spot under the theater. Every time I've been there, the staff has just been exceptionally nice, and it offers a very eclectic mix of films. They are one of the few places around me that offer cult classics like The Room, Rocky Horror, and Ghoulies, and they also offer some great classics like North by Northwest and Trainspotting. The only thing I really don't enjoy is that the seating is a bit cramped, but I can't let myself hold that against them as the theater is located inside a city block as opposed to nowadays when cineplexes are huge entities often built on their own. If you're big, tall, or both, I'd definitely consider buying tickets online and trying to be selective of your seats. I 'd absolutely recommend this place to any big fan of movies and I'm hoping to make this spot a regular visit. read more

I love the film choices. Came to see the artist Kusama's documentary which I loved. This was my first time here so I have to be honest and say I hate finding a place to park in Lawrenceville under time pressure. Few choices abound. I did find on street parking with only a few moments to spare and parking meter only allows 2 hours parking. Kinda hard for a movie but got lucky parking very close. The seats are not all that comfy because they are straight up for those with great posture I guess. Personally I sat close so would like to have just a wee bit of an angle. And it was freezing even with my coat on the entire showing.... But, yes, because of unique film selections, I will be back. read more

Such a fun little theater! It is just a single theater but plays some really special films. I came to see "But I'm a Cheerleader" and it was a really fun time. The theater itself is rather simple and small. The chairs are decently comfortable but nothing too fancy. There is a small stage in front of the screen. I can picture a "Rocky Horror" type event happening here. There is a (mostly) beer place called Bierport attached that can put your can in a quick-cooling machine. They also have funky concession stand. I ordered a regular pretzel. It tasted a bit like rye bread to me, so it definitely wasn't a traditional one, but I still ate it all. I wish I had tried their popcorn- next time! read more

The row house cinema combined with Bierport is possibly one of my favorite offerings that Lawrenceville has to offer. It's fun for adults and children of all ages. They offer a wide variety of movies always with a different theme of the week. Today my girlfriend and I brought her 11 year old daughter to see Pixar's Coco at 9:30am, an early start to their usual noon opening. To add to the theme of an early start they supplied a variety of cereals and milk(s) for a breakfast themed morning. Before the movie started they played old early Saturday morning cartoons, touches like this add to the reminiscent feelings of eating cereal on a Saturday morning in your pajamas watching cartoons. During normal hours the connecting shop is Bierport, one of the best bottle shops I've been to, nothing like drinking a craft PA beer while you watch a movie. Come to Row House to enjoy movies you won't find anywhere else and be on the lookout for special themed events! read more

I had been following Row House on Facebook for a while but hadn't made it there to actually check it out yet. I finally made it down with my boyfriend for the midnight showing of Dark Side of Oz. The event sold out but we had bought tickets ahead of time online. When we arrived at the theater it was a little disorganized. People were lined up but no one knew where we should actually be. Some people were trying to get concessions and others were just trying to check in and get into the theater. I didn't get any concessions that night but it looked like they had some good offerings, not your standard movie theater fare. I will keep this in mind for future visits. It is a bonus that you can get a craft beer on draft or pick up a bottle from the attached Bierport to take into the movie. It's a nice small theater. Usually I don't sit near the front of a theater but this time I did. At the bottom of the regular theater seating they have a chair and two loveseats. This was definitely a comfortable way to watch the movie. The actual experience of Dark Side of Oz was pretty incredible. Unfortunately though towards the end the screen went blank for several minutes. No employee acknowledged it or said when it would be back on. In addition, it would have been nice to at least have them give an apology on the way out... but NOTHING. Overall I am sure I will go back sometime. I would hope that the technical difficulty is a rare occurrence. They do show a lot of cool old movies and do fun events. read more

This place is great! I'm so happy that I signed up for the premium membership. For a low cost of $25 a month, I get unlimited access to all the movies showing (unless it's a special event), a small popcorn every visit and two free tickets so I could bring some friends. Everyone is so friendly here and they always have great cult favorites playing or new indie films. The best part about if this place is the friendly customer service and the fact that there is a craft beer place attached to the theatre. You can even bring the beer into the théâtre! Also bonus point for the Row House because they have sofa seating up top near the screen :) read more

Thank you, Row House Cinema, you guys were so amazing during the 24 Hour Harry Potter Movie Marathon! The theatre lobby, halls and even bathrooms were decorated with Harry Potter related banners, floating candles and more. They provided Harry Potter theamed refreshments and snacks above what they already offered at a reasonable price. The staff was very accommodating even when a patron was unhappy and gave a refund even though the event was already under way. I will defiantly come back here again for future events and special movies. I couldn't have asked for a better marathon experience. read more

I was so skeptical of Rowhouse when it opened. How can a one screen theater exist in the world of on demand? Here's how: Special events like Dan Savages film festival and WigTraxx commentary on films like Showgirls. Showings of documentaries and lesser known films. Special screenings of family movies like Willy Wonka, with tie in activities and themed menu items Hundreds (thousands?) of beer choices at Bierport Exceptional menu items like millies ice cream and Smith's hot dogs Discount for Lawrenceville residents Amazing staff Clean facility Diverse offerings I'm a believer. I go to films at rowhouse more now than when I lived two blocks from there! They're doing an incredible job curating programming and delivering a really high customer experience. I can't imagine it's an easy business model, but they are killing it. So happy to have this gem in our city. read more

Despite only visiting this place twice to date, Row House Cinema is quickly becoming one of my favorite movie theaters in the city. Really, the worst part about this place is that when I say their name a lot of people have no idea what I'm talking about - and when I tell them, they ask, "There's a movie theater in Lawrenceville?" We need to fix this, ASAP, because Row House is wonderful. A little 80-some seat and single-screen theater located in Lawrenceville, they run about two to four movies at a time here; each movie that they pick will somehow fit into the "theme" that they've chosen for each particular week. So while this isn't the place to go for most new releases (with some exceptions), depending on the theme of the week, it IS the place to go to catch a favorite film of yours on the big screen. For example, this past week the theme was "graphic novels" - so all week they played "V For Vendetta", "Sin City", and "The Crow." Nice, if I do say so myself! Since movies only stay here for about a week total, it's smart to check their website and social media to find out what's coming up in their schedule. A week isn't very much time to catch a favorite movie if you let yourself get too busy before picking a showtime, believe me. Fortunately, usually the films are shown at different times on different days throughout the week, so that those of us who can't get anywhere at 3pm one day have a chance to get the movie later in the evening on a different day. By the way, when checking their calendar I HIGHLY recommend watching for any announcements regarding RiffTrax screenings here. I've only gone to one so far, but I am DEFINITELY watching for more in the weeks to come. RiffTrax are often hysterical, and the ability to enjoy them while also enjoying the view of a movie on the big screen is a real treat. Add in the awesome audiences that this place attracts - not to mention the natural popcorn, real better, vegan snacks, and even drinks from Atlas Bottle Works that you can enjoy during your showing - and you can get quite the night out here! My only possible complaint is just their location. Not that Lawrenceville is bad, of course, but parking in Lawrenceville is not easy, guys. This is not a theater you can get to at the last minute very easily - it admittedly takes a little planning and often requires you to budget for some time so you can find a spot and actually get to the theater. Still, it's SO worth it, and I'll happily deal with this problem in the future for the chance to catch more of my favorite movies here. Hopefully more of you will, too, because they're a fabulous little theater, and they deserve every ounce of support we can offer them! read more

I really liked this place and would certainly be up for coming back again! If I lived in the city area, this would be a really cool new addition to the area. I went to see Mean Girls and it was a lot of fun to get to relive a movie I grew up with! The crowd was respectful, fun, and laughed at all the right parts. The place is pretty small overall but that is to be expected. The hallway going into the theater is quite nice and I liked that there was a pinball machine out near the concession to pass time before going to your seats. I'm not a drinker, but I imagine the alcohol would be an added bonus for anyone who does and would like to take a drink in with them to watch the movie. Really my only complaint about this place would be that there was a very limited amount of food/snacks available, but that is a pretty fixable issue. There was popcorn and a couple candies (M&Ms, Twizzlers, etc). I guess they sometimes serve soft pretzels, which I was planning on getting, but they seemed to of been out of stock when I went. I saw on their website that on weekends they sell vegan pastries, but I didn't see any of those when I went on the weekend. Would have liked to try some! My only suggestion for improvement would be more options to eat. read more

I adore this theater. It is so quaint and cozy. They play all the good stuff, and have awesome themed weeks. I love their holiday specials for Halloween and Christmas, which are so fun. One of my most favorite dates of all is coming here for a movie, but stopping next door to the bottle shop to grab a killer craft beer beforehand. So much fun! Important to note- they have discounts if you're a student, live in the neighborhood, age discounts, etc. They also have the option of buying unlimited week passes or 5-10 movie passes. These would be AWESOME gifts for a movie lover! Their snacks are also next-level movie snacks- locally made ice cream and pastries, organic popcorn, local sodas, etc. You just can't beat this place! read more

Such a fun, local theater! My husband and I love coming here to switch it up from the movies playing in a typical theater. We most recently attended the Muppet Christmas showing, which was a great throwback. They serve about 4-5 beers/ciders on tap by concessions or you can go next store to beirport and select from their extensive inventory which is a big plus. The seats were fine for me, but my husband mentioned that they were a little on the small side. The theater is small and only one screen so I would suggest buying tickets ahead of time. Parking is a little tricky because it's a busy area and there is only street parking. All in all, a great date night spot! read more

I love Row House. I've been here a few different times and it was fun every time. Fun theme weeks, you can bring beer inside, cute homemade trailers. This place is fun and affordable. And you can bring beer in. Bierport (formerly Atlas) is next door. You can get your drink chilled if you grab a warm bottle and it only takes a few minutes. It's a relaxed theatre environment with comfy seats. The themes are really fun. I love to look at what they come up with and it's great to be able to see movies that are new to me, but also to see old favorites pop up. They did a Harry Potter festival and it was great. They had movies and activities, and everything went great. They had custom cookies for Samurai Cat! They have fun here. I can't wait to go back. I've been long wanting to visit Row House, especially considering I live so close by. I enjoy supporting local theaters and businesses! Row House doesn't play current blockbuster hits, rather cult classics, anime and other oddball films. I noticed on their website they were holding a 90s night (it seems they do theme weeks/nights quite often) and were playing Spice World. My BFF and I obviously had to go! I was surprised by how small the place is. You literally walk in, glide through a hallway, enter the snack stand and then walk through the door to the theater. The theater is stadium style and probably has enough room for around 150 people? Definitely one of the smallest theaters I've experienced. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, though. It gives you a very intimate feel while enjoying a movie everyone there is totally into. Spice World was loads of fun! Everyone was singing and dancing along. A truly carefree setting! The show was sold out so it definitely felt a little cramped, but the more the merrier I suppose! Tickets were about $11 which I thought was kind of steep, but if goes to a local business, then it's a win! read more

I just went to the Pittsburgh Cat Film Festival here and it was so much fun. They show all kinds of movies-- new releases, classics, animated, foreign. You will find something you like. They offer a membership where you get to see one movie per month, which I am seriously considering looking into. It is connected to Bierport, a craft beer store, and you can bring any beer purchased there into the theater with you. They can chill any bottle for you upon purchase. Beer is also on tap at the concession stand, along with typical movie snacks-- popcorn, candy, etc. There is usually a pinball machine in the lobby, so show up early, grab a beer and play a game before the movie! read more

I originally heard about Row House Cinema from my lab manager, who spends more time in Lawrenceville--and is way cooler--than me. Enthralled with the idea of a cinema that plays nothing but classics and cult movies--and in the awesome neighborhood of Lawrenceville, no less--I had to check it out. Last Sat., the opportunity to do so presented itself, since rain forced CM and I to change our plans to visit a park, so I suggested it. As usual, he was game, so off to L-Ville we went. Row House organizes its showings by unifying theme, which can pertain to content, genre, actors/directors, etc. Last week's theme was graduation, and I was excited to see that two of the offerings--The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Adventureland--were filmed and set in PGH. Having seen and enjoyed both of these movies at home, I was excited at the prospect of seeing them on the big screen. Of the two, CM chose Perks, which I preferred slightly. Because the showing we attended was before 5pm, we were able to see it for matinee pricing ($6), and CM received an additional $1 student discount. Having browsed the other Yelp reviews, I suggested that we head over to Atlas Bottle Works to snag some hard cider to sip during the showing, and CM obliged. Per the suggestion of an employee, I picked up a bottle of ginger-infused Scottish cider called Thistly Cross, and CM picked up a bottle of Crispin cider. CM's cider was conveniently found in the refrigerator, but mine needed to be chilled, and the friendly employee did so in under 5 min. We then headed into the theater to enjoy our drinks and the show. When I surveyed the theater, I was instantly impressed at how well-appointed it is, esp. for a theater of such a small size. Despite its size, the theater has stadium seating similar to that standard in cineplexes, providing all moviegoers with a great view of the screen. Unlike most cineplexes, however, the floor was immaculately clean, and not sticky or messy at all. I found this particularly impressive considering that many customers buy adult beverages at Atlas to consume during showings, which indicates that the employees must really keep up with the cleaning. The seats were also more spacious and comfortable then standard cineplex seats, though they weren't as plush as those of the Manor Theater in Squirrel Hill. During our showing of Perks, there were only 2-3 other customers, which meant that we effectively had the theater to ourselves, which was amazing. We both enjoyed the show very much, him for the first time and me on the big screen. When the show ended, I chatted with the woman working the concession/ticket counter, and she told me that Row House is currently offering a Groupon for two admissions and popcorn. I also noticed that, unlike any other movie theater I've been to, Row House offers kale chips, and she told me that they procure them from a nearby cafe by the bowling alley down the street. Overall, CM and I greatly enjoyed Row House, and were quite impressed with its facilities and offerings. We hope to return to see another great movie in this awesome setting soon! read more

If you haven't been here yet, what are you waiting for? You have wonderful craft beers adjacent to Row House, which are permitted in the theater, you get amazing atmosphere and people, and the popcorn is the best movie theater popcorn I've ever had. I came here to see The Big Lebowski last week, and while it wasn't too full, there were enough people to share the experience with. The sound and video quality is superb in this theater. The seats are comfortable, but as a gentle warning, they are not suited for people with wide hips. I had some difficulty sitting comfortably. The staff here is fantastic, too. There isn't the rush of bigger theaters. I also love that I'm supporting a local theater by coming here. Additionally, they currently have a super fun Lord of the rings pinball table! No one will mind if you hang out just for the pinball. You know you wanna, anyway. Right? Right. So next time you want to see a cult classic or super fantastic movie, check out what Row House is showing. You won't regret it. (Don't forget your student discount) read more

Row House is a welcome addition to Butler St. and I recommend it to any cinephile. I'd been waiting for a chance to get to the Row House, and the perfect opportunity presented itself during its Katherine Hepburn retrospective last week. Each week, the Row House picks a different theme (actor, director, genre, etc), giving a sense of continuity in programming. When I arrived for a showing, I was pleasantly surprised to find you can purchase a weekly pass and save. It's a great feature for a super fan. The theater is cozy and had beer on tap (!!). My only issue is the seats aren't megaplex -comfy. This review would've been a 4-star (sorry I love my seats!) if not for the customer service I received while at the theater. During our screening, nothing came on after the previews. We sat, maybe 3 minutes staring at a blank screen until the owner came in, apologized, and started the film up again. The technological malfunction was completely forgettable, but when we left the theater at the end of the movie, the owner was handing out vouchers for a free film. I'll just go ahead and add my 5 stars to the heap of 5 star reviews that came before mine. Me and a friend had the great pleasure of visiting the Row House theater to see a viewing of Edward Scissorhand! Attendees who wore pajamas got a $1.00 off concessions. We opted not to purchase anything to eat or drink however we still wore our pajamas bottoms. Something that really impressed me about the Row House was the owner of the movie theater came out just before the film began to play to personally welcome everyone and gave just a little background on the Edward Scissorhand film. I always appreciate a personal touch. read more
