Unfortunately, after repeated requests for documentation and a meaningful resolution, we feel prospective families deserve to know about our experience. We are both Successor Co-Trustees for a twice widowed friend of nearly 30 years who was a resident at The Oaks at Paso Robles for just over a year. During that time the California Department of Social Services substantiated two of our complaints involving their care. One citation involved the facility charging for services that were not being provided over an extended period of months and another involved a medication error in which a medication technician mistakenly administered another resident's OxyContin to our dear friend. Both findings are documented and substantiated in the California Department of Social Services public licensing records here, Citation #29-AS-202260407133349: https://www.ccld.dss.ca.gov/transparencyapi/api/FacilityReports?facNum=405850480&inx=27 After he was transferred to another assisted living facility, the admitting staff and ombudsman documented that he arrived with an active infestation of lice and other insects requiring immediate treatment and multiple treatments after that were humiliating yet necessary. That was devastating for us to witness. Following his transfer, The Oaks at Paso Robles acknowledged that it had not consistently provided the agreed level of care for several months and proposed a partial refund. However, despite multiple written requests for an itemized explanation supporting its refund calculations, these were only partially provided and not detailed enough to justify their partial refund. We were left unable to determine how care fees were calculated or which services the facility believed had or had not been provided. As of the date of this review, the California Department of Social Services public licensing record reflects seven Type A citations and twelve Type B citations for this facility. https://www.ccld.dss.ca.gov/carefacilitysearch/FacDetail/405850480 Under California's enforcement system, Type A citations are issued when a violation presents an imminent danger to residents or has caused substantial probability of death or serious physical harm. Type B citations are issued for violations that have a direct or immediate relationship to the health, safety, or security of residents but are not classified as Type A. We encourage every family considering The Oaks at Paso Robles to review the state's public licensing records directly before making a decision. We recognize that many caregivers work hard under difficult circumstances, and every family's experience may be different. However, based on our family's documented experience, we cannot recommend The Oaks at Paso Robles or their other communities without first carefully reviewing their state licensing history, asking detailed questions about staffing and care documentation, and understanding exactly what services are included in monthly care fees. Though there are some lovely staff, the turnover is very high, and very hard to get to know who is caring for your loved one.

The caregivers are ALL very sweet, caring and most importantly, genuine! The owners are lovely lovely people and are almost always there when we visit. You can tell that everyone takes a personal interest in the patients and no one is "pretending". Each time I walk in, something impressive is happening... their meals are all very well organized, planned and served, my grandma is having her hair curled, she has been set up cozy to watch TV, they are having a birthday party, etc... She has a friend that she really enjoys there and the owners have taken them out to dinner together, to see the Nutcracker, to the beach... the list goes on and on. I cannot imagine a better place for my grandma to be. She will even tell you that she likes it there and that they take very good care of her- unusual words for my grandma! And, the facility is VERY CLEAN! My 2 year old zooms his cars all over the living room and I have not seen one speck of dust or dirt here... impressively clean. I think this is a lovely place run by devoted people who really care about the elderly. Each time I visit her I am more and more impressed with the level of care and love that Paradise offers. I cannot thank them enough for taking such GREAT care of my grandma.

We were very impressed at the amount of care and compassion the Ingleside staff gave my mom. When we moved mom from a larger facility in San Luis Obispo where she wasn't getting the amount of care she needed, Ingleside sent a wheel chair assessable van to pick mom up and even sent along their nurse to ride along with her. My mom recently passed and we were so glad we moved her to Ingleside Park. They took great care of her all the way to the end and we were able to visit her any time, day or night.

It was a very hard decision for my niece and her husband to make the decision to move our sister into a facility, but after visiting there today, I realize that they made the absolute best decision for our oldest sister. The care is absolutely wonderful! It's a lovely home and when you walk in you don't smell anything negative, like urine. The area that it is in we saw a deer and her two fauns. I can imagine how beautiful it is in the spring with the grass all green. It has a lovely swimming pool of course our sister never used it. A lovely shaded patio area for family visits. We could tell the other residence of this home were being very well taken care of and seemed to be very happy there. I am so glad my niece and her husband chose this home for our sister. I can't remember the owner's name, but she was so attentive to our sister and the other residents. I don't think you could find a better place for a beloved family member who is not able to live alone. We are so grateful for the care that they're giving our sister.

Do a deep dive! *I would ask to tour the bottom floor of the 20 building * I would ask to spend 20 to 30 minutes near the smokers shed by the back gardens ( then I would do a surprise follow up visit a day or so later, just to make sure  I got a full picture) * I would ask about rodents, big rats, specifically * If it's the name "Christian" that drew me to the facility, I would ask to meet with the leadership ( Wellness Director, Kitchen Manager, Activities Director,, Bethesda House I would (hurry on that one)) I would interview them, ask them how their faith and values line up with ACCs promise to "Lead and care for our residents with a  christ centered lifestyle" I would always check individuals fb's, you know how this younger generation loves to just "put it all out there" *I would ask if any of those two glowing reviews came from a staff member, because I know that you really need to fact check all reviews, good and bad, that people put on the internet. * Lastly I would say, Hey, wait a minute! "Why aren't any of the staff asking these questions or telling the truth about and to the current administration?" How can you charge a new person less than someone who has spent $500K over the last 6 years, for the care of my Aunt, now deceased, and my Uncle. The employees are wonderful, they love the residents there. But the corporation is a total rip off, always increasing the cost, while decreasing the food quality and ration of employees to residents. Their budget for meals is less than $6 per day, yet they charge $4500 per month for a studio. OMG this is such a ripoff.
