When I was fresh out of high school my parents paid for these classes. During one of the lessons…read more(after she picked me up from my college campus) we stopped to grab a bite and as I set my phone down on the counter and was distracted paying, I noticed the lady (owner of the company) grab my phone and go to the restroom. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and figured she thought I'd forget it on the counter. As we sit down to eat, she does not give it back so I proceed to ask her if she's seen my phone. She says no and starts looking in her purse coming up empty handed and saying she hasn't seen it. I say " I saw you take it to the bathroom.". After this she goes "oh my goodness that's right!" and retrieves it from the bathroom. Long story short, I believe she hid it in the bathroom so that if I was unsure of where it was and accused her, it would not be in her purse and she could get it from her hidden spot in the bathroom before leaving the restaurant and I would assume I lost it on campus.

Amber Antonelli honed her skills in the best California kitchens, served as a concierge chef to the stars and even created her own Häagen-Dazs flavor: Toasted Coconut Sesame Brittle. Her boutique catering company and culinary academy, The Naked Bite, is designed around making plants the central theme of the meal by using original recipes and accessible techniques. Amber and Co. are available for events, group or private classes and any session is customizable and can include humanely raised meat while retaining its focus on healthy lifestyle choices and organic ingredients. Popular 4-course menus include Seasonal South Florida, Sunday Brunch or Thai Food Demystified.

Miami was definitely missing an Amber Antonelli (the wonderful chef)!! If you're looking to escape your every day life in a home that has the best energy, relaxing ambiance, and AMAZING fresh food, definitely try out one of her classes. I swear I don't even feel like I'm in Miami when I am at her house (where the classes are held). From the moment you walk in through the door, you are greeted as if you have been friends forever. Amber definitely has the personality to teach these classes - she makes you feel comfortable, very personable, and she's EXTREMELY knowledgeable about everything she makes and all the ingredients she uses. She will take the time to explain why she is using a specific ingredient and will list the health benefits (i.e. coconut oil). Everyone is given the menu for the evening along with the recipes to every dish & the upcoming class schedule. You are also provided a pen to write down any notes and/or tips that will help you out when making the dish on your own. With around 10 people per class, the conversation flows very well & you learn so much from your new friends! Some of my favorite classes are the "Healthy Mexicana Flair, Ole!" and both "Thai Food Demystified" and "Thai 2" but she has classes that fit any palette: Italian, Vegan & Gluten Free, Kids Classes, Weeknight Meals, Vitamix Classes, the list goes on!! I would highly recommend The Naked Bite to both beginners (those who don't know how to cook at all) and experienced chefs. This is usually the range of people that surround the table at the classes & it's definitely nice to see both extremes learning so much from Amber. If you're not interested in the cooking classes but are in need of a "stay-cation", she has an underground dinner club where everything about the dinner is kept a secret until the day before! If that's not your thing and you just want to eat healthy, amazing food, look into her catering! Whatever you choose, I promise that any experience at The Naked Bite will be an unforgettable one. Definitely five stars!

Hands on Miami has been an amazing discovery for me…read more I have been a regular volunteer since January- giving me plenty opportunities to get involved with the community. But while i have always had a desire to volunteer and get involved, i also had a fear of the commitment entailed and the complications that might arise out of my already busy schedule. What is so perfect about Hands On is that it's a flexible volunteering model with no long term commitments, no background checks, no frills or complicated processes. I simply went on the site, found an activity of interest, which to me was working with teens and/or kids and signed up for a specific date. I've been hooked ever since- volunteering my time every month at Miami Bridge- an emergency youth shelter for abused, neglected and abandoned teens ages 10 to 17 and I love it. Every activity is assigned a project leader who takes responsibility for the group and can be a resource on that day for help with directions, etc... I can honestly say it's been a wonderful resource for me in finding ways to get involved and make a difference. Definitely check them out at handsonmiami.org and sign up for an event.
