Had a little after 10 AM. I called to see where the people are at and the guy called and said that they had another job that they were doing and I was wondering if we could reschedule. The whole point of the appointment is to save the timeslot. I picked a weekend because it's the only time that I am home. A few hours later, he contacted me and asked if I have time this afternoon I said yes. Because I want to be clear on the price. I asked him and he said the inspection was free, but the cleaning prices started at 199 and depending on how much smut was in the chimney was determined the price. When I asked for clarity, this is the message that he sent... Please see picture. He was very rude and said it was not rocket science. Anyway I was expecting a big bill and the replacement of the stove pipe inside the chimney. Showed up on time, Turned out the flue was blocked with debris that got knocked loose in the quake. For a modest fee I now have a cleaned stovepipe and unplugged flue in about 1h. I am very happy. We waited over a week for a quote - we'd been given a verbal of about $2500. No call or mailed quote came. We called another company who came out and inspected the pipes inside and out. They were able to see that the pipes are still fine. They cleaned the catalytic converter combs and will get us a quote on those, put in an in pipe thermometer for more accurate temperatures, and explained the best operation of the stove.
