    Bruise on my lip!
    Isabel R.

Today 9/12/24 I was scheduled for a regularly scheduled 6 month dental cleaning at 12:30pm. The office representative called me and said they had a cancelation so I could come in at 11:30am. I came in at 11:30am and I was seen by the Dental Hygienist Judy . I asked her if she had cleaned my teeth in the past and she said no. I asked her to please not use the powered hand held scaler and just use the regular manual scaler because the powered scaler was very uncomfortable. She told me due to lack of flossing and the buildup of plaque it would take too long to use that and she refused also because it would be too much on her wrist. I said okay but I will let her know if it is uncomfortable and she said fine. She proceeded to use the powered tool and I had to wipe my neck and face multiple times due to water trickling from my mouth. Most dental hygienist wipe that if they see that the water is getting on your face or neck. I had to move her hand away multiple times because it was feeling as though she was drilling in my tooth. She showed me that she was not drilling in my tooth and at this point she was doing a full mouth debridment. I told her I came in for a teeth cleaning only. She said well I've done a full mouth debridment and your insurance will cover 80% and you are responsible for 20%. The dental Hygienist went on to say that I will need to come back for a dental cleaning in 4 to 6 weeks. I was not prepared to pay anything because I came in for just a dental cleaning and now I had a bill because Judy said so and didn't even ask! In my last 6 month appointment the same procedure was done and I was not charged anything. I was walked out by the assistant Jana and she was instructed by Judy -Dental Hygienist to give me a tooth brush and toothpaste for gum repair due to gingivitis. When I checked out I paid the 70.80 for the service I didn't come there for. Everything happened so fast that I just paid the bill with resentment because of how roughly I was handled and how I was spoken too as if I never go to the dentist regularly. I haven't had an issue with my teeth as far back as I can recall! I called my Dental insurance company Delta Dental when I got in my car once I realized I had a bruise on my lip. Also, I went back into the office when I saw that the dental cleaning appointment was scheduled for March 13, 2025 when she said I should come back in 4 to 6 weeks. When I came back in the front desk receptionist saw that it was scheduled and she gave me a card for Oct. 15, 2024. Now, If a patient ask to have the dental hygienist use the manual scaler tool I don't understand why she couldn't, after I explained to her that the powered hand held scaler is very uncomfortable. Her response was she isn't going to do it because it is too much for her wrist and we would be here all day. I'm the patient paying for a service and she did whatever she wanted to do. I do not have what she eluded to as far as me having to call for a full mouth debridment. The powered hand held scaler is more for timeliness of the hygienist and not for the patient. At Burris Cosmetic and Family Dentistry I never had my teeth cleaned with this powered hand held scaler and the two times I've come to American Dental it appears it is their practice to do this. She never checked my teeth for soft enamel to see if I had cavities and she never had the dentist come into the room to look at my teeth. This was the absolute worst experience I have ever had at an appointment to get my teeth cleaned which didn't take place completely. The 70.80 charge for a full mouth debridment should have been billed to Judy the Dental Hygienist because she did what she wanted to do and not what I came there for! I feel like I should be reimbursed because the procedure she did is the same thing that was done 6 months ago minus not checking for soft enamel and not having the dentist come in. I have made a formal complaint to my insurance Delta Dental and I would like to be reimbursed for the 70.80 that I paid because she didn't do anything g different.

Not an ideal dental office. Receptionist does not know what to do. Waited for hours just to fill out forms.

During this time, we both experienced several problems revolving around Webster's customer service and poor management from staff, leading to repeated, unnecessary frustrations that should have never existed in the first place. I am writing this to share my husband's and my experience in the hopes that it saves anyone else from wasting their time. We found Webster Cosmetic Dentistry and became new patients as we recently moved into the area and needed a new dentist. As a new patient, they wanted us to have x-rays taken, to which we informed them we had just taken x-rays before leaving our old dentist, and expressed concerns that, as these x-rays were recent, this expense would not be covered by our insurance. They said they would cover the bill if insurance did not, and proceeded with the x-rays... Insurance did not cover it, and the dentistry sent us the bill for the x-rays. I had to fight with Webster for about a year to have them honor the bill. After this, my husband and I had several cleanings done, which led to insurance and billing problems. After the first or second cleaning, we were charged for the entirety of the bill for the last visit, as they did not properly file our insurance information for both of us. My insurance did cover the cleaning, and sent me a check directly to cover our payments. While I was made whole by my insurance, I was very displeased with Webster Cosmetic Dentistry, as I had to pay upfront and make money tighter for my other bills, when this would have been covered by my insurance directly had they filed my information correctly. At one of my cleanings, I was making conversation with the lady cleaning my teeth while we waited for the doctor to give a final exam at the end of the visit. As I was talking to her, I apparently added a curse word in (which is normal for my family), not at her or anyone in particular, but as part of my speech. The doctor (Dr. Webster) overheard this as he was coming in, and proceeded to flip out on me, raising his tone of voice and scolding me as if I were a child, saying "how dare you" and ranting about my slip of the tongue. I felt very disrespected, and later angry about the situation after the shock wore off, only now realizing I should have left their business by this time as their service only continued to worsen. Earlier this year, my husband had a tooth chip and fall off of significant size, about the size of a popcorn kernel. He called that day (a weekday, Thursday if I am not mistaken) to schedule an appointment as soon as possible, and left a voice message. The next day he called again hoping to get through as this seemed like an urgent issue, and again received no answer or call back. It took until the middle of the following week for the dentist to simply return his call and schedule the appointment. This is normal for Webster's, as prior to this incident, my husband was experiencing pain in his mouth and called to be seen, reaching no one. He never received a call back or an appointment, and luckily the pain went away after a week on its own. During one of my last cleanings this year, I had a cleaning that was abnormally rough; I felt I had either tartar or bone pieces in my mouth after she was done, which I disregarded at the time. Coincidentally, about a month after this visit I began having problems with my crown, where my gums started bleeding around this area, it smelled foul, and eventually fell off entirely. I made an appointment to get this fixed, where I was scanned for a new crown, to which afterwards I was told the scan was not done properly and would need to make another appointment for a new scan (which was when I was supposed to be getting the crown put in). I am not entirely sure when it occurred, but I believe it was after this where I was called to make a new appointment, as they had no record or recollection of making the appointment for the second scan. After this second appointment was completed, they put a rush on the crown so that I could get it in before I started working my seasonal job at Amazon and gave me an appointment to finally put the crown on. However, once they received the crown, they called me to schedule an appointment, not realising or acknowledging they had already booked me prior, even though I had their card to prove otherwise (for the second time in a row). At this last visit, I was told by Dr. Webster that I should be grateful that they squeezed me into their busy schedule, which came across as rude and arrogant, considering the fact that they lost my original appointments to begin with, leading to a rush job from their own errors.

An unfortunate issue left me with a very awful experience no parent should have to deal with. Long story short, my daughter needed a procedure and because I didn't want to put my daughter under anesthesia this brought on unexpected challenges. For starters, my child (at the time) was 5 years old. When the dentist, yes the dentist, told me I needed to leave the room so she can proceed I absolutely did not budge. If she thought I was going to leave my daughter alone in a room with people I didn't know, she was out of her mind. I was not leaving my child alone for one second. Come to find out, all they needed to do was inject my daughter with a numbing shot and her tooth issue could've been fixed. Instead they gave me a hard time because again, I didn't feel comfortable putting my child under anesthesia.... The final nail in the coffin was when I asked for both my daughter and My medical records. I was told that I couldn't get them until my daughters bill was paid....hello HIPAA Violation. They confirmed with me that yes, indeed I needed a root canal. They could have scheduled me in fairly quickly but I was going out of town the very next day for quite an extended period. The only real pain that I experienced was the actual numbing shot to the inside pallet. However, once fully numbed I felt nothing. Bonus points for not having the whole side of my face numb. I expected pain and or soreness afterwards but only experienced muscle soreness from having my mouth open for a little over an hour. Kudos to those who worked on me. Would highly recommend.
