Tia added some great ideas to our vision. We also updated our irrigation system for our front and backyard. She asked us great question for us to consider a few things we had not thought about. ALD and Tina were willing to work with us using some stone we had purchased for our design. Tina was a great project manager keeping us informed and the project team direction as needed. The landscape core team did an outstanding job on bringing the actual design to life. The high quality and pride taken in the work the completed was outstanding. We were so pleased with the team at ADL. Our back patio was a dated concrete slab, a firepit with stone seating wings, and a failing retaining wall. All landscape was over grown. Steve and team came in and installed pavers, updated the firepit, rebuilt the retaining wall and steps giving the whole patio a new modern look. The surrounding landscape was refreshed with color and privacy in mind. Rain and snow drainage was a priority in the design to ensure we aren't dealing with a problem down the road. We were extremely pleased with Tia Mower and her workers from American Design and Landscape. They cut back all the growth in the gardens, hauled it away and topped the gardens with fresh mulch. It all looks so clean and is ready for the spring. What took them less than two days would have taken me a month! The crew was polite and left no evidence of having been here. We also had them remove the rocks bordering the street and replace the weed barrier and the rocks. Looks fantastic. I could not be more pleased with the results on our landscaping project. Everything went smooth from beginning to end. Tia, their expert designer came out and gave us a detailed quote and then followed up with a very professional design. This project eliminated all turf in our front yard by replacing it with water-wise plants with various types of rock mulch and bark mulch. Wonderful experience in working with them! We had a large backyard design project and needed professional help to figure out an overall layout and bring it to life. Tia was great in coming up with a design that included a pergola area, flagstone walking path, new planting areas, adding 5 trees/38 shrubs, etc. She was flexible to accommodate us along the way. She stayed on top of the project every day and was incredibly responsive to all of our questions. Gustavo and his crew did an entire replacement of our sprinkler system and they added drip lines to all of our new trees/shrubs and existing gardens. Despite dealing with a staff shortage, this company was honest about the need for flexibility on scheduling and did very high quality work. I had an old retaining wall removed, old tree trunk and juniper trunks pulled, a new wall with steps, and planters with drip irrigation put in. I am very happy with the quality. We were fortunate to work with Megan who was an excellent communicator and made the entire process proceed smoothly. I made two visits to their office throughout the process to drop of payments. Do not bother calling, they simply don't return phone calls. After submitting their online form, no response for several days. Called and spoke to someone who took a ton of information and I was told I would be matched with an landscaper architect/designer, that was over 10 days ago. Called yesterday to highlight the situation and was told it would be invested and that I would receive a call. Never did. Called again today, was told that "Shannon had many different projects and would get back to me." I guess this place missed the memo about building a thriving, reference based business. We just finished a large landscape project with American Design & Landscape and I couldn't be more impressed. I worked with Steve, who came and met with us to kick the project off. I didn't know exactly what I wanted but had some ideas I shared with him. He pulled together a plan that just hit the nail on the head in terms of the style I wanted. I made a few changes to some of the plants selected for personal favorites, which Steve incorporated into the design right away. From design to install Steve communicated all along. Once the instal kicked off they sent an entire crew, every day and stayed until it was completed. I've worked with others in the past who send out 2 guys who take 2 months to complete a project. American's crew showed up every morning, stayed until the end of the day and worked incredibly hard the entire time. It was also clear the level of detail this company uses when planning and installing. The drip lines that were run to every single plant and tree, the weed barrier, the boarders- everything is built to last. The crew was very courteous, professional and cleaned up every single day. Once the project was done, the owner of the company made a trip out to the property to meet with us, make sure we were satisfied and thank us for our business. A very person, and nice touch. We had American complete a $8K patio/path and a redesign two years ago that we were happy with. Called this year to have them redo our front lawn as we had a kill-off, and they haven't even called me back in a week. Needless to say, they will no longer receive any more business for me...and I used to give them good word-of-mouth credit, thats gone too. If you're busy, then just call and let you customers know that. I understand why small companies go out of business so easily. read more

Tia at American Landscape and Design was the point of contact person to ensure my project was carefully planned out, assigned the team to carry out the plans and to communicate any details needed in order to have the project come to fruition. I greatly appreciate Tia's professionalism and communication in order to consciously be on the same page. Fidel and his team were assigned to my labor extensive project; remove rocks, replace weed barrier, reset rocks for both front and back yards. Fidel and his team did an incredible, quality work. Not only did they complete the job in a timely manner but also ended up going above and beyond with leaving my back yard looking better than when they arrived on the first day. The team ended up pulling weeds in an area that was not a part of the plan. I have a fence that is in need of replacing and leaning pretty badly. The team ended up adjusting my fence in order to work around it. The team could've left the fence how it was when they started the work but they left the fence in an upright position. I now do not need to worry about the fence lasting through the winter. These above and beyond measures were not asked of them but rather, an act of kindness. Thank you Tia, Fidel and the team! ADL installed our entire landscape project 10 years ago for a new construction home. The total cost was around $33,000. We have not been satisfied for many reasons: We live in Castle Rock where the soil contains a lot of clay and is very dense, and requires good topsoil installation as well as digging out a large enough holes for trees and shrubs to be planted to be successful. One tree and five bushes have died already, and when we dug out the trunk of one of the dead trees we discovered that the root ball had never been untied to begin with, so the tree basically got strangled. Also, over the last several years our grass has completely failed due to poor topsoil. In addition, every time I dig a hole someplace in the yard to plant something new, I discover food wrappers and drink cans that were buried instead of thrown away. Surprise! Your bill is thousands of dollars more than their written bid and work order changes. Why? Because their sub-contractors charged them more since American Design and Landscape did not oversee the project and made numerous mistakes. You should also pay for all the excess material that they ordered and pay for trees & bushes that were never planted or part of the design. Was it on-time? Nope the project took several months longer than promised. What happens if you contact the owner, president and sales rep and ask for a resolution? They void your warranty. Starting with an accurate estimate from of our first meeting to final completion, everything went great.They started on the day they said they would and continued to have a crew working at our house every day until completion. One star may not be fair. The judgment is based on two phone calls that were not returned. I guess they don't need my business.

First, the good. Did a nice job on our flagstone patio and the overall "look" of the design. They were friendly people to deal with, at least our job designer Mike and the job foreman. Did not interact with any other staff so cannot confirm/deny any of the feedback I've read here. Now, the negative. Almost every plant they planted is either dead or dying. Not sure why, but I don't think they thought too much about the location or conditions when plantings were discussed -- more like "sure, let's do that". Not being a horticulturist, I'd have hoped for better advice. So that's an additive expense. The landscaping materials (e.g., rock, bark) were laid down so thinly that the fabric is constantly showing through. The did warn that the bark would thin out as the wind picked it up, but the rock is a different story. But the thing that is really ticking me off right now is that I had the entire yard scraped and re-sodded, and asked for deep soil amendments to be made due to soil compaction and the grass growing in clumps -- paid 5-figures for this, but here I am two years into my new lawn and right back to where I started. It's like they didn't amend the soil at all. I'd love to have given these guys 4 stars at the very least, but given the negatives, I am really disappointed and doubt I'd use them again for any future landscaping needs. read more

Contracted ADL early in the Spring to landscape my backyard. They indicated the job would take 3 days. They started several days later than they indicated and said it was due to a prior job running longer than planned due to the weather. Ok, I get that. But then they started my job, and the 3 day job turned into a nearly 3 week job - partly due to weather, but partly because they just miscalculated how long it would take. Badly. The job was finished, and looked mostly like I envisioned, although the shrubbery and grasses were a little less mature than I was expecting (not much more than small container plants you can buy at Home Depot). Still, I can live with that since eventually they would grow, expand and mature. Except they didn't. 2 out of 3 of the shrubs did almost immediately after planting, and the grasses appear to be struggling. The tree seems to be doing well so far. They also installed a fire pit and what was supposed to be a level breeze patio. The fire pit is a little closer to the deck than I would have liked, but it is gas so more of an inconvenient location more than a safety hazard. However, I have a great open space view to the back of my house and, because of the placement of the fire pit so near to the deck stairs, it's hard to place chairs facing the backyard, especially with the patio not being level in this area. This was more than a little disappointing since it was supposed to be the focal point of the backyard. All that said, the reason for the 2-star rating is primarily because ADL (Mike) indicated he would follow up regarding the dead shrubs and, despite repeated attempts to get them to replace them, he simply keeps saying he will come out to take a look but never does. He's now stopped responding. I expected more from this company. read more

They were a referral to us, very disappointed with the lack of communication and follow-up, they will only communicate via email. Their bid was 3x the cost without justification, took over 3 weeks to actually get the bid. We didn't make it very far with changes to when the architect turned nasty, after declining to move forward. read more

ADL has landscaped both our front and backyards in years past. I was always satisfied with there service and follow-up until now. I have a leak in the line that goes to my sprinklers manifold box, I called to schedule a maintenance appointment. I was informed that they no longer perform maintenace on sprinklers. I told them they had always done maintenance in the past and that they had landscaped both of our yards. I was informed that they would make an appointment to come out and give me an estimate, but it would not be for 30 days. They also would not refer me to anyone else to do the work. What kind of customer service is that????? I have referred friends and neighbors to ADL in the past and they have received work as a result, never again! read more

This company is awful regarding customer service and warranty! They do not value the customer or repeat business. On a project that was over 50k they cut my many wires into my home without knowing what they were cutting. My internet and phones were cut 2 times each while they were on the project, even though everything was marked before project was started. The project started late and finished late too. The owner will say yes they will repair and replace damages they cause then turn around and say he never said that. His daughter who is manager is very difficult to deal with also. They will do and say whatever to not replace trees and plants that die before your 1 year warranty is up. They did not stick to the design plans that were originally proposed. I would NEVER use them again. The PM that was their best employee left the company. The only reason I even used the company and was promised he'd be on my yard project which he was NEVER allowed to work on!! Do not use them or trust them. Less than one star service. read more

We had this company install a lawn, rock and do some sprinkler upgrading. The sod lawn was installed in two separate areas surrounded by concrete curbing previously installed by another company. My wife and I had previous experience installing 6,500 sq. ft. of sod in the Bay Area. These folks are not experts. The salesperson/ project supervisor underestimated the amount of required soil amendment by about half. Fortunately, we insisted on doubling it. Prior to installation of the sod, the soil was raked and never rolled. As a result, the soil/sod level is far too low along the curbing. Had they rolled the soil beforehand and spent a title more time leveling, that would not have been the case. They had the sod delivered a day before it was to be installed, a bad choice because it dries. When it was finally installed, it was not properly butted one roll against the next. As a result, there were spaces between the rolls of sod. We demanded they return and fill the gaps with top soil, which incidentally contained gravel. Throughout this experience the salesperson/ supervisor kept pushing his lead man to hurry the project along so the crew could move on to the next. Buyer beware! I will never hire this company again. read more
