But sometimes I find myself having to get poked or prodded, for instance, this trip to LabCorp for blood work. And while it's not something I want to put on my calendar every day, I have to say this experience was about 1,000x better than it might have been, so woohoo for that. First, I love that you can just make an appointment online -- super, super easy. I actually got on the computer at 10 and made an appointment for 1 p.m. same day. Second, if you're in West Seattle (or close by) it's really easy to get to. There's parking on the street and inside, and it's a small place in a quiet neighborhood, so much less hassle than trekking to First Hill if you don't have to. Third, I walked right in and was next; no waiting. In fact, I learned when I got there that I didn't even need an appointment -- apparently it's not a long-lines-of-people kind of thing to get blood drawn, so that was good to know just in case. (I am a nervous type and like making appointments.) The surroundings were honestly just so-so; there's a main lobby that's nice, but I was in the lab lobby, which feels more like a waiting nook at an old hospital, but it's fine. The room where the blood was drawn was a little small, and another guy came in to have his done while we were wrapping up my procedure, and that was just a little weird -- I am by far not the worst person about having to give blood, but I don't particularly want to watch someone else's pool up into a vial or bag, either. But the best part was Kristy who checked me in and drew my blood. She was funny, chatty, supportive ("You can grab my arm if you need to,") and kept me laughing as we talked about terrible self-published ebooks. Most importantly, she got that needle in so easily I honestly barely even felt it -- I actually had to check to see if she'd gotten started. And it was over quickly. So high-fives for this office all around!

I also got extremely light headed after they 3rd poke (don't know if it was the heat or my reaction to getting a needle inserted multiple times with no result). They sent me to Lapcorp, and the lady was done drawing my blood in less than 1 minute. I went early in the morning and there was no wait.. thank you Lapcorp!

It's very clear that LabCorp is facing staffing issues when it comes to this location. The customer service was very poor and the staff were not all that professional. Initially, I was told that they do walk-in drug screens but then told I would have to come back the next day. That was absolutely insane! I insisted that they see me for my drug screen and then the manager told me I could be seen that same day. Why tell someone and have signage that says you take walk-ins for drug screens but yet turn them around for the next day? I was there several hours before closing as well! I was able to get it done, but with some major insistence, and talking to the manager. It was a very cramped space, and with very burnt out and unprofessional staff. Overall, I got done what I needed, but did not have a good experience. I highly recommend avoiding this location at all costs if you can! I prefer the location in burien for my routine labwork. Unfortunately, they don't do pre-employment drug screens. BEWARE!

They do take walk-ins, but there's no front desk (just a self check-in kiosk), so I'm not entirely sure how smooth that process is. I'd definitely recommend booking ahead. Once you arrive, you check yourself in at the kiosk and they verify your ID, so make sure to bring it. I was called in pretty quickly, they did a quick check of my info (since I had already filled everything online), and the blood draw itself was quick and smooth. Overall, I was in and out in about 15 minutes. Very convenient experience.

Wasn't so great for a sudden onset and new hip pain. Was seen by a PA twice, got a referral to PT and handout for piriform syndrome, returned as that didn't seem to fit and was worried about worsening problem, didn't get exam second time but referral for x-ray (there was going to be someone coming in that Saturday; I understand they don't usually have x-rays). I ended up doing the x-ray at my regular location in case comparison with previous x-rays needed. There doesn't seem to be much continuity between VM and VM/Franciscan at former Franciscan locations or at least this one. Had to reobtain health insurance info, get new "portal" type info for a different system etc. It is often IMPOSSIBLE to get through on the phone. Just killed my battery holding for half an hour without getting through, after receiving a letter stating I would need to call them to prevent further calls and letters about the PT referral, which turns out to be for another of their locations, not my regular VM location where I've been seen in PT many times before. Saw my regular doctor when I could get in with her at the usual VM location and received more complete exam and a diagnosis of meralgia paresthetica or trochanteric pain syndrome. Pluses: Clean, welcoming location, friendly front desk, friendly, sympathetic HCP, able to walk in and rule out likelihood of needing to go to ER. Minuses: Not great for diagnoses, continuity of care with VM, or accessibility on phone, not a lot of equipment there, it seems. Blaring TV in waiting area on second visit was really distracting the 1-2 hours I had to wait for my appointment and prevented reading.
