I CANNOT say enough good things about this place, and Vladimir specifically. He's the tailor (and, I believe, also the owner) at the Seneca shop, and it was such a pleasant experience having him do the alterations on my wedding dress. First of all, he's an incredibly kind, genial person. Second, he's excellent at what he does and you should feel confident that he'll do a great job. I needed my dress hemmed and bustled, and the shoulder straps taken in. After I put my dress on, he carefully studied it to see what kind of bustle would work best, given the fabric, construction, etc. (the hemming and shoulder straps were pretty straightforward), and then made suggestions. I like to sew myself, so it was fun for me to talk with him about this stuff and learn from an expert. I came back a little over a week later to pick up the dress and he had me try it on again to see if I was happy. I felt the bustle wasn't taken in enough and the dress dragged a little too much in the back, so that I was stepping on the fabric as I walked. He happily spent time seeing what he could do to bring up the fabric and asked me to come in two days later to pick it up. He clearly cares very much about making the customer happy and will do whatever it takes. Vladimir also charges very reasonable fees. He charged less than what David's Bridal quoted me for these alterations. I heartily recommend going here for any alterations you need! P.S. I've been looking for a good tailor for ages and was so happy to find American Freestyle Alterations. Vladimir really know his business and I trust his point of view on what the best choices to make are in an alteration. I have brought a wide range of clothing in from denim to designer dresses and jackets , and even raw edge leather and everything has been done with great quality. I trust them with all of my alterations from $100 trousers to a $2000 jacket. I went here the first time because I was sick of poor quality hem jobs on jeans at various dry cleaners around town who outsource the job. It might be too early to tell after two months, but the hem Vladimir did is still holding up. So I brought him an even bigger job yesterday. The same pair of jeans had some unexpected quality problems and had gotten two glaring pinky-sized holes at the inside ankles from normal wear. The jean manufacturer said they'd reimburse me if I could get it fixed, so I asked Vladimir to work a minor miracle. I'm pretty pleased with the results, especially since I was not optimistic. But the patch-job is fairly well-blended and $20 to keep a $100 pair of jeans out of the trash is pretty good. The other amazing thing is he had it done within 24 hours despite being busy, along with the other 3 items I brought him (redo a loose tshirt hem $10, repair small holes on the inside of a brand-new double-layer viscose H&M blouse $10, and sew a button back onto a cardigan and reinforce the other buttons $12). (Actually, I brought him the cardigan because I didn't have the right color thread in my sewing kit and he offered to give me the thread for free but I was feeling lazy.) read more

Went to here to get my Patagonia fly fishing pants hemmed up as they were slightly long for legs. I was concerned that they wouldn't look as good or due the special material hold up as well after being altered. I've always had great service here, with very very reasonable times in getting work done. Svetlana and her staff are critical and detail orientated. They confer with each other, and make every effort to address your concerns. They have done a handful of shirts, some pants, a few suits, and some fixing a pair of running shorts. Pricing isn't outrageous for a downtown location. I'd say about average, if not a little less than my last tailor over on 1st near pikes market. I had my BHLDN wedding dress altered by Svetlana - I could not be happier with the updates and the price. My wedding dress was $500 on sale from BHLDN, beautiful, but not perfect. And way too long. It also had some complex lacing details. I took my dress to Svetlana, she was really honest about what should and could be done to it, and gave me an estimate. The price was around $250. I took my dress to another alterations place in North Seattle for another quote, and was shocked to find the quote was double the price for the same changes, and triple the price (at least $900), to take the thing apart and make it the way they pinned it. They had pinned it beautifully and said that they would take it apart to make it that way - which was honestly a bit scary. Long story short, I took the dress back to Svetlana, and she let me know it was a really bad idea to take it apart based on how it was built and that the cost wouldn't be worth it - and wouldn't work. I really appreciated that she was honest with me about what was possible, and SO glad I didn't risk ruining the dress. I went with Svetlana and could not be happier. I left the dress and came back in a few weeks for a first fitting, with the wedding a few weeks after. I had planned to go back once more. When I got there - it fit LIKE. A. GLOVE - it was perfect. I was by myself this whole time, so her opinion and help was really helpful, and at the wedding everyone complimented me on how well it fit. On top of all of this - Svetlana is the SWEETEST, and will make you feel like a real life princess. Thank you Svetlana!!! One side note - so you aren't surprised - the shop is tiny, and super busy. Both Svetlana and Vladimir are really nice people and great tailors. Svetlana did the alterations on my wedding gown, and it turned out great! For example, my gown had three layers of fabric, and each needed a bustle, and she did this perfectly for a reasonable price. She's also creative and suggested ways of making my gown look even more beautiful - she changed the neckline to a sweetheart neckline, which was a great change. She also provided different ideas for the bustles. Vladimir and Svetlana also tailored my fiance's tux - again, they did a wonderful job. The tux turned out looking clean, crisp, and fit my fiance perfectly. The alterations were done quickly - my wedding gown in 2 weeks and my fiance's tux in 1 week. Wow! My experience definitely mirrored all the positive reviews on Yelp. I believe that one sign of a good professional is when he or she looks out for your best interests and talks you out of spending money. I once had a dentist talk me out of pricey cosmetic work and I stayed loyal to that dentist through two moves, until I was just too far away for it to be feasible to get to his office. I brought in a vintage gown that fits like a dream once on but can be challenging to put on. I wondered if there was a way to take it out a bit. Svetlana easily zipped me into it and saved both the period integrity of the gown and my pocketbook by telling me all I needed was to have someone help me avoid fabric getting caught in the zipper. I told her I'd be back with items for repair. I'm not sure if she believed me but she warmly said goodbye and wished me well. Svetlana was so nice, a little Armenian lady with great customer service who is clearly successful and good at what she does. I paid a little more than I'd expected, but the quality was great. If I had a wedding dress, I'd take it to her. One little piece of advice - if you are a woman getting something tailored, go in when Svetlana is there and she can measure you. There are several men who also work there but they were shy about taking my measurements and touching the fabric near the crotch/butt area. I think that did affect the result a bit and my pants could have been tailored better if they'd addressed the crotch area of the pants directly. I needed the sleeves fitted as they were HUGE! also a little more form fitted over all and the hooks redone because they were too loose. Most tailors would not even touch my dress because it is very complicated. I noticed from the other reviews here she has done Indian dresses before, mine is a white Indian wedding dress with more detail than most have ever seen! I'm so happy that I chose Vladimir and American Freestyle to alter a dress that I purchased for my engagement photos. I bought the dress online in a size larger than I usually am because my size was unavailable. I was ready to return it when a friend of mine suggested that if this was the dress I wanted (it was!) I should just have it altered. Vladimir is a true professional and did an amazing job. He sewed cups into the bust and took it in just a smidge on the sides. Svetlana did an incredible job with my wedding dress. It was a satin sheath with an intricate lace overlay, and I was initially nervous when she said it would take her a month to do the first round of alterations. However, it was the ONLY round of alterations I needed since she did them flawlessly the first time! She took in the lace overlay by several inches, yet you'd never be able to tell since she took such care in deconstructing, cutting, and re-sewing the lace to absolute perfection. So here I am again, and I have to write another glowing review for this wonderful business. I've come to Svetlana with previous alterations that were definitely tricky - a wedding dress alteration with really delicate lace to be taken in, and a bridesmaid dress that needed to be made longer (and I didn't even have additional fabric, terrible, I know!) and she worked magic both times so of course I even bring little things too! This time I had a super last minute hem that needed to be done for some suit pants for work. I have to say much of the interaction was like always - wonderfully welcoming storefront, very professional, Svetlana and staff cheerful and warm as always. The atmosphere definitely can't be beat. This time, I also met her new(er) assistant Yasmin who was the one that actually performed my alteration and my experience with her was no different than I would have expected - she was fun, super nice, and easy to work with. Yasmin completed my time sensitive job with no difficulty and the length was perfect. I just have to say that it can be so hard these days to find a place of business that takes any job, no matter how small or large, and performs exceptionally - American Freestyle Alterations does exactly that though. I couldn't be more satisfied. On top of it all, any charge I've had there has been more than reasonable. I have always felt like I'm getting an amazing deal and the quality is always incredible. I'm a pretty competent seamstress and usually do my own alterations, but the evening dress I bought for my 30th birthday was pretty far outside even my sewing skills. I had ordered it custom made to my measurements. When it arrived, it was inexplicably a good six inches too large in the bust! It was so loose I couldn't even take a "before" picture because it showed too much skin. I didn't have time to return it and order a new one, so a friend pointed me to Svetlana and thank goodness, because for $60 and a 15-minute fitting she delivered the most flawless gown I've ever worn. She completely rescued the complicated halter neckline and the complex folds of the bodice all while delivering the friendliest and most cheerful customer service I've ever witnessed. Svetlana is so nice I came in to have measurements taken since I was getting a wedding dress made for me in another state and she took my measurements for free. I brought my Belstaff jacket here that had 10 years of love and life worn out of it. I thought it was beyond repair, but just wanted to check and see if it could have a second shot. Not only did they bring my jacket back to its former glory, they actually improved it: they added patches to the elbows and improved the sleeve cuffs. It was *not* an easy fix due to the unusual construction of the pants, but Vladimir got creative and found a solution. The cost was reasonable, the work impeccable, and he's a pleasure to work with. I must mention that I studied fashion design and do have sewing equipment but I still prefer to bring my special projects here! If you happen to show up when there's another customer, beware: there's a lovely selection of reasonably-priced, unique handbags for sale in the entry area. Since my first visit, I have returned to AFA at least twice more: once to get a dress tailored, and once to have two pairs of jeans tapered and hemmed. Service is always as prompt as possible, although there is just one dressing room and they are very popular! I recommend going on off hours if possible - not during lunch or right after work. Everyone who works there is kind and patient. The gentlemen mostly speak Russian, but Svetlana is there to translate. Svetlana is a total gem, one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. She greets me like a daughter and promises to have my clothes looking perfect when I come back. Turnaround for those not in a hurry (I never am) is about a week, sometimes less, and I'm always happy with the results. Prices are quite reasonable.
