Things to keep in mind if you are traveling for business. But the idiosyncrasies are a trade off for charming inn-type things. The entryway smells like freshly baked bread, there are 'holiday' decorations (fall now . . . so think pumpkins and cranberries), and you will likely run into a stuffed rabbit with a tea set sitting on a floral loveseat. Also note that its not handicap friendly - nary an elevator to be seen here - but at least panting up the three flights of stairs replaces a trip to the gym. The inn staff is absolutely adorable, and they serve breakfast in the mornings. Breakfast gives you a choice of a waffle, blueberry pancake or omelet, as well as other items like cheese and cereal. Room rates are reasonable - even more reasonable if you choose one of the rooms with a shared bathroom - and the location is great. I'd recommend the Inn if you're looking for something clean, comfortable and wayy different than a skyscraper modern-ed out steel and glass hotel - and even if you can't get wi-fi in your room, sitting in the downstairs in your PJs huddled over your laptop's wireless connection in the lobby really will at least feel like home.

We had trouble getting into the building, and had to ring the bell a couple of times. We also left our luggage with them for the day after we checked out, and they just left it out in the open. When we asked if they needed to tag them or take our name, they said 'no.' So anyone could've taken our luggage or claimed it was theirs with no proof. Not super comfortable with the security. Then when we came back for our luggage, we almost missed the window where the door was still accessible with our code. No one would answer the phone line. So if we were just one minute later, we might've missed our flight. Breakfast has room for improvement. It's just the basics, all continental style. They don't make food fresh here. The restaurants next door were excellent though.

Here's our experience at The Poppy. 1) Check-In: We were able to check in easily online and given personalized codes to each door we needed from the courtyard to our room. Once we arrived, Nico (the manager) greeted us warmly. Checkout was just as easy, settling any outstanding items online. You can even leave a tip for the cleaning staff online via a QR code in your room. 2) Room: We stayed in the king-sized room with a large tub. It's a little outdated (some of the wallpaper was coming off), but comfortable. The couch turned into a bed for our seven-year-old daughter. It came with bathroom amenities, extra blankets, a TV, etc. 3) Space: There's a small lobby with tables, a coffee machine, snacks like peanut M&Ms, bottled water, etc. The outdoor courtyards come with a firepit and games that our daughter enjoyed. 4) Amenities: In addition to the games, they also have a closet of extra things in case you forgot them like bug spray, toiletries, etc. The Wi-Fi is strong throughout. It's a dog-friendly property and they even have a water bowl and dog treats. 5) Neighborhood: It's very walkable and street parking is easy to find. Rose Park is next door with a trail, dog park, a playground, tennis courts, and more. Apero is a wine bar next door worth visiting. You can easily walk to M Street NW full of restaurants and shops or head north to Monrose Park and Dumbarton Oaks Park.

The basement apartment is self sufficient, so we did not have the "bed and breakfast" experience of sharing, but that's OK for us.. We had our own full bath, our own exterior entrance, etc. Rates vary, but this was such a better deal than any hotel room, how can you go wrong?

The bed was amazingly comfortable -- one of those adjustable tempurpedic mattresses. I'm not sure if every room has one or if it was just our room, but it sure made it hard to want to get out of bed. There is free wi-fi and continental breakfast downstairs in the morning. This place is a great alternative to the pricey hotels around DC -- it has a private, relaxing feel and yet is close enough to the Metro that it is also pretty convenient. We would definitely stay here again.

Locks 10 and 11 seem like they would be the best choice, other locks have common doors just outside your door, so you hear everyone coming / going and getting coffee, etc. 2. Nice little two-person outdoor patio set outside lock #10, very nice for sharing a night cap. 3. Others have commented about the absence of staff, I do agree this is off putting but everything seemed to work with a little 'figuring out'. 4. For example, checking in at the ATM like machine, which takes a $100 deposit - and provides a numerical key code to your room. It was unclear to me that code ALSO opens the front door just to the right of the ATM, and whether that door was the common entrance. 4a. Another reviewer also mentioned their deposit took longer than they expected to be refunded, I was surprised to see the deposit move to a charge vice dropping from 'pending charges', took the full 5 days to credit after I called - expect a delay, the refund is not instant. 5. On the coffee machine, it defaults to a 6oz pour. Override that and select 10oz - that fills the cup entirely and doesn't waste the Keurig grounds in the capsule. 6. Location could not be better, don't miss dinner at Clyde's or a dessert to go from Filomena's (Turtle and Strawberry cheesecakes are spectacular, all made in house). 7. Common area kitchen has a full size refrigerator with 11 labeled bins, each for a lock - nice to be able to chill a bottle of wine or other items as needed. We were assigned to Room #5. 112sq ft of intimate space, cleanliness and entertainment. Nicely new/ updated rooms, pretty décor, toiletries provided, in room remote thermostat, clothing storage, natural light and room lights, cable tv, etc. I loved everything about this room. It is smack in the middle of Georgetown. You can literally walk everywhere your heart desires. Located in a clean and safe neighborhood, late night food and entertainment gems, etc. There are moderately priced garages everywhere. Street metered parking if you're lucky, and a few free parking spaces 1 street over. Hubby and I are already making plans to return! This place is a must stay... Trust me !!

We booked a junior suite, and I'm so glad we did. Having a second room to lounge in was wonderful, especially since my husband and I enjoy very different shows. Being able to slide the door shut was perfect. And I'm not sure how they do it, but the room was completely soundproof--you didn't hear a peep! The room was the perfect size, and the bathroom was spacious. The shower featured Balmain products (loved those), and the bar soap was Diptyque, one of my favorites. They even stocked bottled water next to the bed and in the wine fridge. When we mentioned that we wanted it colder, they immediately brought up a small refrigerator for us and even offered a microwave! The location is fantastic--just a block or so from the White House and McPherson Square Metro station, and close to all the monuments. I felt very pampered throughout our stay and honestly wish it had been longer than four days. The Sofitel DC has spoiled me, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else when we return to DC!

Upon arrival, there was a refreshing infused water station with lemons, limes, and oranges available for guests. Our room also included 2 complimentary bottles of water. The room itself was spacious, clean, and quiet. The bathroom was nicely appointed with both a bathtub and a separate shower. The shower was enjoyable, although the water pressure could have been stronger. 2 minor issues were: the TV remote, which was difficult to use. The buttons required a lot of pressure to work, possibly due to age or weak batteries. Iron leaked as we were ironing our clothes. Checkout was incredibly easy and smooth. Sydney was welcoming and friendly, asked whether I needed a printed receipt, and quickly let me know that I was all set to go. One thing to keep in mind is that most hotels in the central Washington, D.C., area charge for parking. The Kimpton George offers valet parking for $68 + tax per night, but there is a parking garage directly across the street for about $35, which is a much more economical option. KIMPTON George Hotel is a clean, comfortable, and conveniently located hotel near Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. With good service and a quiet atmosphere, I would consider staying here again.

They couldn't even email me one. I really needed the receipt but the front desk receptionist-Chris was what he called himself, was rude and unhelpful. I even needed a taxi and he seemed put out to have to help me. This is not the level of service I expect from a hotel like this.

They have big black out curtains on the windows that did a great job at blocking out the light in my room. A few things to note: -They have electric kettles and pour over coffee. I turned off the kettle before it was fully done, and even when I turned it off early, the water was incredibly hot (hotter than a typical hotel coffee maker). The outside of the kettle also became scalding hot, so be careful. -The parking is valet only. Normally that wouldn't be an issue. However, none of the valet drivers could drive a manual car. They still had us park there, but they had us park the car ourselves. The valet parking has in and out privileges, but they're not 24-hours a day. I wish the website made it clear they weren't open overnight. BUT, the customer service was top notch and when we needed the car and valet wasn't there, the front desk staff helped us get it. I will definitely stay here again.
