Things to keep in mind if you are traveling for business. But the idiosyncrasies are a trade off for charming inn-type things. The entryway smells like freshly baked bread, there are 'holiday' decorations (fall now . . . so think pumpkins and cranberries), and you will likely run into a stuffed rabbit with a tea set sitting on a floral loveseat. Also note that its not handicap friendly - nary an elevator to be seen here - but at least panting up the three flights of stairs replaces a trip to the gym. The inn staff is absolutely adorable, and they serve breakfast in the mornings. Breakfast gives you a choice of a waffle, blueberry pancake or omelet, as well as other items like cheese and cereal. Room rates are reasonable - even more reasonable if you choose one of the rooms with a shared bathroom - and the location is great. I'd recommend the Inn if you're looking for something clean, comfortable and wayy different than a skyscraper modern-ed out steel and glass hotel - and even if you can't get wi-fi in your room, sitting in the downstairs in your PJs huddled over your laptop's wireless connection in the lobby really will at least feel like home.

Great location, about 3 blocks from the northern escalator at Du Pont Circle. Plenty of room to spread out, it was just my wife and I but 6 could get cozy in here and 4 could be comfortable. TV, free wireless internet, excellent location and a pleasant hostess. The basement apartment is self sufficient, so we did not have the "bed and breakfast" experience of sharing, but that's OK for us.. We had our own full bath, our own exterior entrance, etc. Rates vary, but this was such a better deal than any hotel room, how can you go wrong?

Our host, Dana, was very friendly and, since our sight-seeing plans were kind of up-in-the-air, gave us lots of good advice on places to go and things to see. The room was really cute and clean. The bed was amazingly comfortable -- one of those adjustable tempurpedic mattresses. I'm not sure if every room has one or if it was just our room, but it sure made it hard to want to get out of bed. There is free wi-fi and continental breakfast downstairs in the morning. This place is a great alternative to the pricey hotels around DC -- it has a private, relaxing feel and yet is close enough to the Metro that it is also pretty convenient. We would definitely stay here again.

I spent a wonderful evening, morning, and breakfast with Angela and Kelly, and it was so wonderful that I am going to make staying with them a regular part of pampering myself every now and then. I cannot recommend them highly enough if you are looking for something less corporate than most of what D.C. offers for travel lodging.

Very nice server... with too many to wait on our floor. Service was a bit slow, but you have to accept this as par -- anywhere you go. No worries. I had the Eggs Benedict, a Boozy Hot Chocolate, and the highly-acclaimed "Donut." The eggs were very good, but the potatoes bites were soggy... might have been cooked a minute or two more. The Boozy Hot Chocolate seemed far more chocolate than anything else. Live, and learn. The "Donut" was good, but wasn't what I'd expected. It was more the consistency of French toast, very doughy, and served with whipped cream. The fact that I didn't care for it didn't mean that it's bad. The only thing I'd change in my experience was that I tried unsuccessfully to flag down our server to bring some coffee to me. We ran out of time before the check came (as 5 of the 6 had to go back to work -- yes, on a Sunday) Still, the menu looked interesting and I'd probably come back -- but probably at an off-peak time.

When Policy Replaces Hospitality…read more We were so excited to celebrate my wife's birthday weekend here and explore nearby monuments -- it was something we'd been looking forward to for months. Unfortunately, life threw us a curveball and we had to cancel. We called right away, hoping the hotel might show a little understanding, but instead, we were immediately charged $500. My wife was crying on the phone, even asking if we could at least pay part of it, but we were told no exceptions were possible. I understand policies exist, but sometimes empathy goes further than rules. It's disheartening when a place that should represent hospitality forgets the human side of it. And in fact we were hoping to reschedule our reservations until we saw the charge was already placed.

We booked a junior suite, and I'm so glad we did. Having a second room to lounge in was wonderful, especially since my husband and I enjoy very different shows. Being able to slide the door shut was perfect. And I'm not sure how they do it, but the room was completely soundproof--you didn't hear a peep! The room was the perfect size, and the bathroom was spacious. The shower featured Balmain products (loved those), and the bar soap was Diptyque, one of my favorites. They even stocked bottled water next to the bed and in the wine fridge. When we mentioned that we wanted it colder, they immediately brought up a small refrigerator for us and even offered a microwave! The location is fantastic--just a block or so from the White House and McPherson Square Metro station, and close to all the monuments. I felt very pampered throughout our stay and honestly wish it had been longer than four days. The Sofitel DC has spoiled me, and I can't imagine staying anywhere else when we return to DC!

The check-in process was efficient. I had requested a room on the highest floor possible, and the hotel was able to accommodate that request (8th floor ~ their last floor), which I appreciated. Upon arrival, there was a refreshing infused water station with lemons, limes, and oranges available for guests. Our room also included 2 complimentary bottles of water. The room itself was spacious, clean, and quiet. The bathroom was nicely appointed with both a bathtub and a separate shower. The shower was enjoyable, although the water pressure could have been stronger. 2 minor issues were: the TV remote, which was difficult to use. The buttons required a lot of pressure to work, possibly due to age or weak batteries. Iron leaked as we were ironing our clothes. Checkout was incredibly easy and smooth. Sydney was welcoming and friendly, asked whether I needed a printed receipt, and quickly let me know that I was all set to go. One thing to keep in mind is that most hotels in the central Washington, D.C., area charge for parking. The Kimpton George offers valet parking for $68 + tax per night, but there is a parking garage directly across the street for about $35, which is a much more economical option. KIMPTON George Hotel is a clean, comfortable, and conveniently located hotel near Union Station and the U.S. Capitol. With good service and a quiet atmosphere, I would consider staying here again.

Probably needed fresh batteries. I called early in the evening and they promised me someone would be up to fix it. I never had anyone come by. This was a big miss for me. Don't make a promise and not follow through. My biggest complaint was on checkout. I needed a receipt but they said they were running an audit and couldn't provide one. They couldn't even email me one. I really needed the receipt but the front desk receptionist-Chris was what he called himself, was rude and unhelpful. I even needed a taxi and he seemed put out to have to help me. This is not the level of service I expect from a hotel like this.

I loved the experience - it was my first time at a B and B. The owner was kind, helpful, and made sure our needs and desires were met. Breakfast was served at 8:00 each day...I got the impression that was the only option. Had I been there for pleasure, perhaps I would have preferred a bit later but since I was there for business it wasn't a big deal. Breakfast was amazing each day. The chef took into account our dietary needs, AND provided us with delicious food each and every day. I loved it. We all gathered in the dining room and shared breakfast together. Since we were all there for a conference, we had much to talk about it, even though we'd just met (I knew one person only). The home does not have central air conditioning but each guest room and the dining room have air units - I was fine. Yes, the parlor was a bit stuffy - and we had to meet in there a few times for work purposes but I did not suffer too much. The place is so darn charming! It is located on Logan Circle which is a wonderful neighborhood. We walked the area quite a bit and found some great restaurants. My room had a hairdryer, shampoo, and soap provided. The room is cleaned every 3 days unless you request it - that was perfectly fine with me. I had plenty of towels/rags, so no complaints there. While the home decor is restored to the way it would have been in 1883, modern amenities were there...AC in rooms, cable TV, iron with ironing board, mini refrigerator, and a great shower. Things I wished for: coffee at 7:00am and that the metro was a tad closer....that's it. I could not have asked for a better host. I will return to the Chester Arthur B and B when I return to DC with my husband for vacation.

Being an Expedia Gold Member, I was able to take advantage of the VIP rewards and the manager Lyle generously upgraded our room. Our room was gorgeous with a city view, I loved everything about it, the color scheme, the bed, the bathroom, all of it. Our stay was very comfortable, they made us feel completely at home and we even took advantage of their happy hour before we headed for the rest of our day. To top it off, right as we're leaving the lobby, we noticed an employee making fresh popcorn in one of those old school popcorn stands. We immediately grabbed a cute little bag and got a huge scoop of popcorn for our train ride. Score! Aside from the inside of the hotel, it is conveniently located in Dupont Circle, so close to the metro station, down the street from a CVS and restaurants. They even had a farmers market going on right next to the hotel on Sunday morning. Beautiful hotel, friendly staff, a very comfortable stay in my books. I love boutique hotels and this one is off the charts!
