The Milano - Two Person Air Tub
    Amanda M.

CHECK-IN: The check-in was easy, we got a quick tour of the mansion from Jennifer and our keys. That was it! THE MILANO ROOM: -We stayed in the Milano room which is in the basement of the mansion and a very pretty room. There was the Shanghai-daway room across the way that was not occupied so we had total privacy having an entire floor to ourselves. -The bathroom is probably the best part of the Milano with the two person air tub with jets, shower with rain shower showerhead, heated floors and amber hued onyx throughout the bathroom. -The featherbed was phenomenal and the pillows were super fluffy, I've never slept better. I was well rested when I woke up this morning. COMMON AREAS: There is an outdoor seating area in the front of the house. The interior feels quaint and elegant; I really loved the decor. They also had mini quiches and complimentary sherry and tea available anytime. We had a late dinner at Café Dupont and when we came back it felt like we were in someone's home and it felt lovely. I felt very comfortable throughout our stay. BREAKFAST: The continental breakfast had an array of breads with spreads, fresh fruit, ham, cheese, smoked salmon, granola, yogurt and oatmeal. There was also Harley & Sons tea, French press coffee, orange juice and cranberry juice. They also make a specialty item which today was mozzarella cheese, basil and tomatoes on a croissant which I thought was delicious. I was hoping for a little more decadence but my favorites were the strawberry bread and smoked salmon with cream cheese and capers on a sesame bagel. GOOD STUFF: Located right on the corner of Swann Street and New Hampshire Avenue, close to restaurants in Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan. The staff was very friendly and helpful; the hospitality was wonderful. We brought a bottle of champagne and Jennifer was kind enough to fill up an ice bucket and provide us with champagne flutes. I loved the sherry, it was so comforting when we arrived to have a glass right away. The room was very clean and comfortable, I easily could have stayed there a week without any complaints. I inquired about massages about a month ago when I booked this and the were able to coordinate a couples massage in our room and it was amazing! In fact, I plan on using the masseuses again. STUFF TO IMPROVE ON: Did not have hot water for longer than a few minutes so we could not really enjoy a bath or shower there. The #1 reason I booked the Milano was so we could take a bath together but there wasn't enough hot water to fill the tub so we ended up taking a warm bath that turned cold quickly. The walls are thin and we could hear quite a lot above us and the floors and stairs squeak but I guess that is to be expected in an old building. I was really hoping for fresh squeezed juices but these definitely tasted like bottled. Perhaps they could also put the juices on ice so they are kept colder. I would've loved some grapefruit juice but the only options were cranberry and orange which were both lukewarm.

One of the best B&Bs that I have ever stayed at. Not so much because the facilities were emaculate because it has its issues, but because of the staff. I couldn't believe how friendly and accommodating they were with everything. I was welcomed and put at ease when I arrived, I felt like I was home seeing family. When I mentioned I would miss breakfast due to early meetings, the office manager was not going to let her guests leave hungry for the day and she personally packed me a breakfast/lunch. Mini fridge on premises with free waters, sodas, iced tea. Also coffee and fruit available to snack on. Free liquor in the evening and a fresh baked dessert to munch on. The stairs are squeaky so it's a pain slipping in and out late at night without making a lot of noise, but c'est la vie. The rooms are average-small size but nicely decorated and the beds are very warm and comfortable. However, the walls/doors are not sexy time friendly. Other downsides are limited parking and no secure area for baggage check - though I was never concerned about the security of my bags since the office manager is very attentive to who's coming and going. Cabs are always passing by on the main thoroughfare or you can take a quick walk a few blocks to dupont's trendy area. I highly recommend staying here if you can. Great neighborhood, restaurants, and bars and not overly crowded or pretentious as a lot of the downtown areas are.

I have been to the Swann House to join my friend's breakfast party, yey! The breakfast was a buffet -not a big buffet buffet but in my idea they had all the essentials. I really enjoyed everything, specially their homemade cookies, super fresh! This hotel in general is a place to fall in love with!! The architecture and design of building is very particular, and in a way it resembles an European style mansion. There are some cute, antique furnitures in the living room which catch my attention. I didn't get a chance to visit the rooms, but I assume that they should be very particular as well. The staff are very attentive and will make sure that you feel like you're in home.

He never mentioned this when the dish was brought over, and we only found out because he charged us for two entrees of lamb chops. This felt like a way to get more money out of us, which we didn't appreciate.

I did have one odd experience before my party arrived at the bar. While sitting at the bar, I gave up my seat so a woman could sit with her party, and her response and behavior toward me were surprisingly rude. What made the encounter a little more uncomfortable was that she seemed to know almost all the servers and folks at the bar and the hosts so for a moment I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. She and all her conversations seem to suck the life out of the room and certainly made it a dark experience. She did eventually kind of apologize. Once my colleagues arrived and we moved to our table, that moment was quickly behind me. But she and all her "friends" at the bar and throughout the restaurant made it uncomfortable. From there, the experience was excellent. The service was absolutely top-notch, and the ambiance was beautifully warm and inviting. I was dining with colleagues from work, so I didn't take a lot of picture as we were simply enjoying the evening. I had the pork chop and it was excellent. Along with the bbq greens as a standout. Everything was wonderfully seasoned and full of flavor. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere made for a terrific evening.... after the very uncomfortable bar scene. Despite that brief and unusual interaction at the bar, I would recommend you try the restaurant.

Of course my friend is a member and if I'm lucky, someday I will be too. It started off as I walked up the sidewalk and approached the club, the doorman was standing on the sidewalk. As I got closer, the doorman greeted me by name! I was taken a back for a minute wondering how could he possibly know my name! I was escorted in and asked to wait in the main reception while they went to get my friend. I went into what they refer to as the "Correspondence Lounge" which is sort of a small library with some incredibly old literary works. They have very strict rules and one of surprise is no use of cell phones... period. How refreshing! You can go into the Correspondence Lounge if you need to use your phone but otherwise you cannot use while in the dining room or other public areas. So make sure you "check-in" on Yelp when you are outside. Naturally they have a dress code, but really, if you have to ask what the dress code is, you probably aren't going to this place. Another rule I was surprised is they try to keep business limited so you cannot bring out a bunch of papers, laptop, etc... The only papers you can hold would have to be a newspaper or a book. Once seated, the service is impeccable. Extremely polite and not overbearing. They knew when we were engrossed in conversation and didn't interrupt. I had the lump crab cake for dinner and it was without a doubt the BEST! I lived in Virginia for five years and went to college at George Washington so I'm quite familiar with East Coast seafood and I can honestly say the lump crab at the Metropolitan Club is the BEST! I could go on about this place but simply put, if you have the opportunity to go, don't pass that opportunity up for what will end up being one of the greatest dining experiences of your life.

We were planning our wedding during the pandemic and things were constantly uncertain as to whether or not the wedding would be able go to on. On the day of the wedding, DJ Kia was so involved with every aspect of the ceremony and reception. He knew exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to make our wedding day an unforgettable experience. He literally orchestrated our ceremony processional and was making sure everything was running smoothly. Everyone felt at ease walking down the aisle because DJ Kia was there to send them off. We were lucky enough to have Iman MC our wedding, and believe us when we tell you he knows how to put on a show. The dance floor comes alive with Iman on stage and everyone was out of their seats and dancing the entire night. Our cocktail hour ended up going over schedule, which pushed back our reception. It was no worry though, because Iman was there to quickly restructure the timeline and ensure everything ran smoothly. Even with unexpected issues, we felt completely at ease knowing he had us covered. He is such a genuine person who truly cares about his client's happiness. We also used Night Owls for our video production and working with them was a truly pleasant experience. They captured every aspect of the wedding beautifully. In just a few short weeks, we had our trailer and wedding video created, both of which were edited to our liking. They were extremely patient with us throughout the process and the end result is videos we still can't stop watching! Thank you to Brandon and the team at Night Owls for all of their hard work. We also want to give a special thanks to Wake on the sax, Farzan on the drums, and Cyrus on the cello. These three gentleman made the music come alive and our guests could not stop raving about how talented they were. My wife and I still talk about just how great it was working with Exclusively Entertainment and we would absolutely recommend them for your events!
