I never write reviews, but I'm so impressed with this company, I'm putting this out there (and they didn't even ask me to!). My 13 yr old has been doing voice lessons now for 8 weeks. She walks away every week feeling excited and confident, singing in the car the whole way home. Her piano skills have improved as she's learned to sing with the chords, and music theory has come alive for her as well. Her coach is impressively knowledgeable in music and teaching; he answers all of my daughter's questions in bite-sized pieces using examples, diagrams, and 'let's try this' exercises.....then ties it all into the bigger goal of learning to convey emotion through music. I love seeing my daughter's love for music, and her self-confidence, grow every week! read more

I have been very disappointed by AGA. I registered through their website where they asked what I played, how hold I was (I suppose assuming 90% of their students will be under 18), and all that sort of thing. When I arrived at my "coach's" door, he knew I was coming, but had no idea I wanted to play electric bass instead of guitar, and had no idea I was an adult rather than a child. I'd also been emailed the .pdf for the guitar lesson book rather than the bass lesson book. So I'd printed out the wrong book to have ready for my coach. I'm already not impressed. It took several days for AGA to get back to him on what to do next. I really don't like when a program doesn't support its contractors. He and I sorted through that and came to an arrangement for the first lesson or two. I decided I liked him and the way he teaches so I stuck with it for several months. It became quickly apparent that while the concepts the program covers are good, the book does a terrible job with it. They give you the barest bones of one or two exercises for a particular concept, and then tell you to go master it. I thought, okay, maybe the coach's book elaborates more on just how one might go about this. No, there's not much support there either. But my teacher/coach is resourceful and comes up with some exercises of his own as well. So that's good. Then we find out that AGA has dropped their bass program entirely. I am seriously unimpressed. I also find out that AGA isn't terribly supportive of their contractors at all, which just annoys the crap out of me. I don't know what the support for the guitar program is like, but based on my own experience, there is no way I can recommend AGA. Not for kids, not for adults, not for teachers looking to work through someone else's program. On the other hand, I would happily recommend my teacher for anyone looking for beginner guitar or bass lessons. read more

I have been attending AGA with my grandson for the past 9 months and am very pleased with the instructors and lessons. Learning piano is challenging, but I'm learning! My instructors are patient, answer all my questions, and encourage me to stretch myself. My 8 year old grandson, who is less enthusiastic about lessons and practicing, but he is learning. I appreciate the flexibility afforded me in allowing me to share the lesson and to easily schedule lessons. read more

DO NOT DO BIS WITH THESE PEOPLE THEY ARE SCAM ARTISTS! We took our daughter here to learn how to the play the piano, went for 4 months and my daughter (who's ten) didn't learn a thing also was forcing her to watch a 15 min video (she's not a visual learner but rather a hands on type of kid) and then only had 5-10 mins of hands on instruction. Anyway we stopped going to him 3-4 months ago went to pay my rent and they claim the check bounced! Owner took 378 dollars out of my account plus the 30 dollar bounce check fee at the bank and 50 dollar bounced check fee with the landlord.....and my daughter HASNT BEEN THERE IN 3-4 months. I don't remember signing a contract or anything! I tried to call them to peacefully resolve this and there PHONES BEEN DISCONECTED! seriously! I purchased lessons from American Guitar Academy months ago through Amazon Local. Their system would not accept a coupon code and I had to send several emails to them to get them to tell me how to work around it. Since that time I have been back and forth with them trying to find an instructor. I chose a name from the list of instructors and gave it to them. It took them several days to get back and say that he was out of the country even though the website said he was available. I sent them another name. They told me to give that person a total of seven business days to contact me. He never did. It took them another few days to get back to me and ask for another name. That person never contacted me either. It's been weeks since that time and they still have not correct the problem. Stay away from AGA at all costs!!! read more

Horrible experience from the beginning! My wife purchased a Groupon for a Christmas gift for AGA and was a hassle from the beginning. I tried to sign up for the classes on AGA's website and repeatedly received a message saying that my code was invalid. After receiving this message I contacted AGA for help with the issue. AGA customer service responded with the coach's info saying that I could contact them to set up lessons. After trying to contact the coach which I received no reply from, I tried to reply to AGA through the email they originally responded with. I kept receiving undeliverable messages when trying to email AGA. So, I had to contact AGA through their "contact us" form on the website. Again, they responded only with, "You can contact the instructor and try to set up a lesson" or try an online video offered by the coach....not much help! I don't want to try to learn to play the guitar by watching a video. I can do that on YouTube. After trying to contact the coach again, I received no response. So, again I had to contact AGA through their "contact us" on the website. I received the exact same response from AGA. This company does not help when there is a problem. AGA only takes your money and makes you do the work to try and set something up with their 3rd party coaches who don't care to respond since they are not true employees of AGA. DO NOT; again I have to say DO NOT use American Guitar Academy. They do not care about making their customers happy, they only want your money and require you to do all of the work and follow up to try and set up lessons. If I could, I would give American Guitar Academy less than 1 star!!! read more

AGA is a scam. I purchased a Groupon in December for my son for Christmas, it is July now, and I have emailed them once a week to start lessons. Then I will email the main office several times, So then they give me a different coach, I email them weekly, and I email the office, and never once have they contact me (other than their auto send emails) to schedule or discuss. I have never worked with a company that had such terrible follow-up, or customer service. read more

My daughter started taking lessons about 4 years ago and has thoroughly enjoyed it and is learning so much! After my son saw her excitement, he started taking lessons! They both began on the acoustic and now have moved to lessons with the electric guitar. The AGA method of learning has been so wonderful and easy for them to use. They have progressed quickly, achieving levels in the AGA book and feeling confident in their playing! The coaches have been great also to work with and my kids are happy and want to continue learning and playing guitars! I would highly recommend AGA to anyone interested in successful, accurate and accelerated learning techniques for playing the guitar. Thank you AGA! read more
