I have an older Ibanez that needed to be set up and cleaned up. Dropped it off and they did a great job of getting rid of the fret buzz and adjusting the string heights to be consistent. It looks and plays much better. The price was very reasonable. I would use this service again. read more

The owner of this hole in the wall is one piece of work. Turns out he's from New York. You can definately tell by his personality. If you like being talked down to like your a piece of crap, then this is the place to be. Ask questions about stuff? He'll barely look up to help you. Treats customers as well as employees very disrespectfully. Prices are too high and not a lot of choice. Special order, you say? Good luck with that. And forget about walking into this place around closing time. He'll about put his foot in your butt to get you out the door. I've known John for a few "zillion years" as both my sons marched their way through K-12 music and beyond. I've used his shop for purchases, for brass instrument repair and maintenance. Great work. I've purchased oddities from him, guitars, amplifiers. He's never steered me wrong, he sells quality gear (unlike many online stores), and his prices are great. Seriously, don't buy the primary instruments online, buy face-to-face. An amplifier, effects pedal ... you might be okay. A guitar? Seriously, even the best names can put out a screwed mess. I was ignored at the counter while Chris decided to shake a pick out of a guitar. I had asked a question, and when I got fed up with being ignored and started for the door, he attempted to make me feel guilty by saying he couldn't focus on two things at once, and when I called him on his lack of customer service, he told me to leave the store. Additionally, I was told they would buy my gear, but when I brought it in, they refused to buy from me. There was nothing wrong with the gear. They simply do not want to do fair business. I love this little music shop in Downtown Hillsboro. I have rented trombones for my boys when there were in middle school, and later purchased trombones and had repairs on a guitar here. I really despise having to post a bad review but our experience with Mir Music was negative for the short 3 months in which we rented an instrument. In fact, this is my first review which isn't a positive one. I cannot post this review without choosing a rating, so I'm giving a 1-star rating because, well, I have to in order to post my review. First, new to the area we were excited to find a musical instrument shop within minutes from home. No issues when my husband and daughter went in to rent the instrument. ~2 weeks pass and we return because the keys were 'sticking' among other issues. As my daughter begins to explain the issues and areas of concern she is rudely interrupted by the representative. He didn't give her a minute to complete one sentence. We push that aside and wait a good 30 minutes in the store for him to fix the cork, and then pass off the instrument to the back room. The man in the back room insists there isn't an issue. I then ask my daughter to attempt to replicate the issue as it would be easier for the repair man to understand. She plays and again they dismiss her concern. I ask her to play a while longer, and then, they reluctantly ask to have the instrument, take it to the back room, another 15 minutes and it is fine for the time being. Last week we returned as my daughter was experiencing similar issues. Again, the same representative, rudely interrupted her, accusing her of dropping the instrument. This time I politely ask him to allow her to finish explaining the issues so that he can better understand how to address the repair. With a loud sigh, he motions for her to continue. Last night we come to pick up the instrument that's been repaired. I ask my daughter to test it out and we instantly notice her 5 + reeds are missing. She cannot test it out. When we ask for the reeds we are surprised at the response. We were told something along the lines of "Why don't you check at home, logically they wouldn't be in the case, why would we take them out?" After I inform him that I am positive the reeds were left in the case as I checked the case as well when we turned it in for repair. I assumed this would be a simple fix. I was absolutely wrong. Along with the negative remarks from the repair man in the back room, the representative continued to talk to us in a condescending manner. He insinuated that my daughter was being deceitful and lost her reeds. What bothered me the most is I was very calm and polite and these 2 men were absolutely rude and had a complete lack of customer service. Next, I inquire on the process to cancel our rental agreement. After careful inspection he deems the instrument in good condition. Since our experience was less than desirable I asked for a record of its return condition and date. He then gives me the receipt for the repair fee. Although angry, I still thank him. Oddly enough his response was "I'm not even going to say anything." At this point I have had more than enough, it was bad enough my daughter had to witness such behavior and disrespect from 2 adults running this store. After we have the check-in receipt, we leave the store. No less than 15 minutes later I received a call from the representative informing me that their newer employee forgot to return my daughter's reeds when he removed them from her case as he vacuumed the case. He did apologize, but I am very saddened that each time that we visited the store, my daughter had to witness such blatant, demeaning behavior. I still marvel in disbelief at the responses, but it served it's purpose--perhaps after the first visit I should have not given the representative the benefit of the doubt and just went with my gut feeling. read more

I normally would not write a review but WOW the voice teacher was very mean to me because I told the front desk that she was 10 minutes late for our 30 minute session and for that I was leaving for the day. From beginner to high quality instruments, music toys for the younger set, accessories - stocking stuffers! The owner is extremely knowledgeable about all things music, and every purchase I made there (and there have been many!) I received a discount. The owner, Jack, was very knowledgable, and helped me decide on the size and the brand. Both arrived promptly and were in perfect condition. The man here was so helpful, and really cared about us as customers! (You could tell). I came to buy a percussion drum, and saw one that I loved, but was hesitant. He helped me learn about how it's tuned, how to care for it, and how often to change the top of it. His knowledge of it was amazing. There was a discount going on, so he was very generous with it, and the drum even came with a case -- Great price! Although it is lightly used, it was very reasonable! This place is a joke, I purchased a Saxaphone from them a few months ago and it was a display. I had little knowledge about instruments, and basically depended on the shop to give me some insight. I decided to purchase the instrument because I looked at the cost of rental and it just made more sense to purchase. Anyway, after some research I realized that I should have had the neck strap, pad saver, and a few other items and a case. I went to the store and asked about the items that were not included and the owner gave me cork grease and a cleaning cloth. I asked for the pad saver and his response was, " No that's more than I'm willing to part with," and he walked away. Extremely negative, and clearly, he had no time for me especially since he already had my money. Sadly, since I have mentioned this to others, most also have nothing pleasant to say and strongly encourage me to go across the street to the other downtown Hillsboro music store, NOT MIR MUSIC! read more
