I purchased a plectrum banjo off e-bay recently. It was made my Jim Cox, a Master Luthier from…read moreMaine, a custom order. The banjo is bird's eye maple with plenty of inlay and dressings. The head was badly worn and action was too high. It had been sitting in a closet for awhile and needed some help. Now a luthier may be fantastic with guitars, but banjo's are a different critter. You really have to know what you're doing. I own four banjo's so I found this out the hard way. Dan had a bit of trouble finding the proper head, but he persevered and obtained one. He installed the head, lowered the action and set up the instrument properly. This was not an easy repair and I would not trust just any luthier with it. Dan had the knowledge and expertise to do it right! Now this beautiful banjo sounds just as good as it looks, I am proud to add it to my collection. Thanks Dan, Del

This is a tricky instrument, but I had taken music lessons for much of my life and wanted to really master this one. As an adult there is nothing more frustrating than a music teacher giving you 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' to practice! I showed up with a Chopin piece at my first lesson and rather than tell me I couldn't play that, she said, 'let's give it a go!' Lani treated me as an adult from the beginning, with adult iinterests. She has always pushed me beyond my abitliy and made piano fun at the same time. When things got a bit frustratiing she sensed the need for a change and a different piece of music was introduced, yet we always came back to the frustrating music at a later date, and as a result I Ihave some wonderful pieces in my repertoire. Lani is the one of the kindest people I know and her love for the instrument is palpable. It's fun watching her nerd out on piano theory and making theory fun for students as well! But piano is not only about the music. Piano is about getting to know yourself, experiencing the frustration together with someone you can trust to keep your best interests at heart. I have grown as a person through the years of piano lessons, and I do believe a great teacher will help one grow. Seeing her students go on to study music in college may be the biggest compliment one can give to Lani as a music teacher. Five stars for the price of a trumpet for under $500 which should last my kid through high school…read more The rental through the school was over $20 dollars a month plus insurance so it made sense to buy one. it's great because I didn't have to get a questionable instrument online, and the place the school recommended had a $2000++ trumpet and that's outside my budget Communication is challenging. Not straightforward and definitely not as quick and easy as online shopping. We signed up for lessons. Had a bit of communication issues and the owner stepped in to help move the way since summer schedule is different than school schedule. ( aka travel and camps mess up a regular class time). For $129/ 4 lessons 30 min other friends say this is a great deal. I have no idea if it's a good deal or not, but I really like the teacher. Lots of other great teachers here. I think the retail store at the teaching area should be two different reviews but alas ( dated decor but worth it for the price. I'd hate try pay more for a glam studios which does nothing to teach my kid) Again communication is an issue. Patience and patience and it's worth it

This store was a life saver last year! After checking in on multiple "music stores" between my hometown and Pacific University (all stores with just guitars, vinyls, and sometimes some jazz supplies), I came in here. Lo and behold, he had a box of classic Vandorens (three and a half) behind the counter. He was pleasant, made a couple jokes, and then we had a conversation about the music stores nearby before I bought the reeds and hurried over to check in. He wasn't the most sweet person to work retail, but he was kind enough and got me what I needed. Much preferred to my old music store, where the owner took my money and my instrument year after year to "change the pads", which never actually occurred. Here, the owner is honest at least.
