Valley Ridge Presbyterian Homes Assisted Living and Memory Care…read more Most of the staff that provide direct service are helpful and kind. Most of my interactions with management are difficult. Their language is threatening, they expect very important decisions to made immediately and require your signature locking you into decisions under pressure. When they give corrections to my parent because of a mistake or misunderstanding it always comes with a veiled threat of eviction. If we ask for documentation on policies or their "point system" so we can have a better understanding of what we are paying for or what they are recommending it is very hard to get them to give us written materials to review. The lease we signed refers to other documents, brochures, for costly policy information. Yes, the brochures were provided in a stack about 1/2 inch thick with other promotional material, but not fully explained. And these brochures look like they can be changed or updated at any time, which does not seem to me to be legal since they are connected to our lease agreement. They promote themselves as a non-profit providing service to the elderly but working with the management is like working with a used car dealership. One more thing, the food is awful. My parent gets about one meal a week that they do not complain about. I know food seems like a petty complaint, but my parent does not have much to look forward to, and food is a very big part of their day.

My parents both live in the apartments and they love it! It is perfect! It is a small, family community and I cannot tell you enough how wonderful it is to know my mom and dad are in a very safe, clean, wonderful, community. They love their cozy apartment and have made many friends. The staff is truly amazing!! All of them!! When I stay, I rent the suite a few doors down from them for only $70 a night and it is so comfortable. I think I would give the rehab center next door 3 stars. Although their response to my concerns were really receptive and supportive, there were some very disheartening moments that I would not expect from any medical institution, especially those that care for the elderly. In those first 3 - 4 days I had to painstakingly remind nurses to not bump into his feet as he has extremely painful neuropathy - which of course they knew. It happened several times in those first days. My dad is very sharp, but has trouble hearing. Unless I was with him, he could not understand a single staff member. No matter how many times I tried to tell them. I can very easily communicate with my dad. All I have to do is face him and speak up a few octaves. Their problem with this resulted in my dad never knowing what they were saying if I wasn't there around the clock. I had to ask aids to shut the bathroom door so he can use the restroom with some dignity and many times my dad had to push his button for pain meds up to 3 x waiting up to 50 minutes. I also cleaned his room while I was there with a broom I found. My brother and I would hear the woman next door asking for help and we would have to go in there and show her how to use her button. On the second day, it was a bad day for my dad and as I left to thank the nurse, I was in tears, and wanted to connect with her as she seemed abrupt with me. She just waved and said ya, no problem. I expressed these concerns with the admin, head nurse, nutritionist, therapists and they were all very thankful because they said we would not know how to improve if families didn't advocate. I handled meeting with them kindly and vulnerably and they continued to communicate with me via email and phone throughout the rest of my dad's two weeks. 3 stars is good. His room was wonderful and he got really great care from many and his therapists got him home early! For those things I am grateful. I just feel sad for folks who do not have a family member to check with them often. Especially during their first week. I can't help but think that some staff, like any work place, are less compassionate with patients who have no advocacy.

I was on the waiting list for Summit Place. However, I was turned away due to not being a good fit because of my allergies to mold. (I had chosen Summit Place due to the large, heated swimming pool). So, I did a 2nd tour at The Waters of Eden Prairie. Staff was welcoming and had an opening, a RENOVATED one bedroom with a washer/dryer. The apartment is gorgeous, clean, and inviting. The LVP flooring in the kitchen and bathroom is what I dreamed about. I felt truly cared for.
