Oh my goodness, no. This place is a dump! Horribly outdated and smells like stale old cigarette smoke and mold. The bed is old and uncomfortable and the bedding is old, stained and won't stay on the bed. The light in the bathroom flickers like a horror movie. The water pressure in the shower is awThe air conditioner made loud, wind-like sounds all night. There is graffiti on the towel bar, wall and light fixture. You can't make this stuff up! We pulled out the filters in the air conditioner and they were filthy. The carpet is filthy. Like makes your feet black filthy. The ice maker was broken. There's layers of dust in the coffee maker. I could probably go on forever. The pool and hot tub were drained and out of service "because Covid". They are not serving breakfast "because covid" as well as not cleaning rooms unless requested "because covid". Yet everything is wide open now in MI as well as many other states. And no one in this place wears masks, so how are all these cancelled amenities due to covid restrictions? I'd have sympathy for them if they were conscientious and honestly concerned about covid, but that's not what's going on here. Clearly the ownership has used covid as an excuse to run a disgusting, subpar establishment, avoid cleaning and not make repairs. There's housekeeping carts and other messy equipment all over the hallways. They left the doors to the storage and laundry rooms open and they're a mess. All of the doors to the outside that are supposed to be locked are wide open. An obviously intoxicated man without a shirt was hanging around outside and tried to get my attention when i was in the car. NOPE. I drove off. If I was traveling alone I would not feel safe. We were in town for a wedding and had no other option. We will absolutely, positively not be back. I hope we don't get sick. where do I begin.... 1) My daughter and her now husband reserved rooms for out of town guests to stay over 6 months before the wedding, less than a week before guests were contacted saying workers booked 50 rooms for 6 months and our guests were kicked out! they moved them to super 8 supposedly but 2 families found out the evening of the wedding they actually didn't have any where to stay so they had to drive home over 3 hours! 2) The workers that had rented the rooms were VERY loud and cooking in their rooms with the door opened and you could smell everything. 3) There was a group of workers outside late at night with music blaring, they ran down the hallways at 3 am yelling and banging on doors. 4) The ice machine was broken and had no ice available, the hallway carpet was filthy. It was one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed at and wouldn't recommend staying there. The owners and management should be ashamed of how their hotel is and how it is run. If your going to have long term people staying at your place of business make sure they behave themselves and aren't intimidating other guests. I have cancelled my reservation and will not stay here. There is an event this weekend and I will tell our group to cancel their reservations as well. When I booked, my debit card was charged in error per their admission. A "new person" clicked "authorize" rather than "accept" is what Tiffany told me. She processed a refund, supposedly, however 2 weeks later and 3 phone calls and I still do not have my refund. read more

Nice Comfortable Room My daughter and I stayed here Tuesday September 22, 2014. I found the staff to be extremely friendly, everything in working order and the room to be very clean. The room was a nice size and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast consisted of fresh pastries and waffles, which for the reasonable price I paid for the room, was more than I expected. Olivera's, a great Italian restaurant was in the same parking lot and the surrounding area is lovely and historic. I will definitely stay there again. read more

If I could give this a minus rating I would. Black cobwebs hanging on the ceiling in the halls, bathroom light that doesn't work unless you hit it. The hot tub was left dirty with parts of the surrounding mirrors in pieces. Garbage under the couch, old dirty carpets that covered up holes in the floor. The back security door which is "supposed" to be key access only is completely unlocked 24/7. Horrible!! Definitely not worth the price!! read more

We were supposed to stay here this past weekend for a wedding we attended. However, when we got to the room before the wedding, the hotel itself smelled horrible. It reaked of smoke and was clearly not clean in the hallway. When we walked into the room it smelled of cats and smoke and looked as if it had not had any updates since it opened. The window had no screen, there was no deadbolt on the door, and there was no hot water. We got ready for the wedding, headed to the wedding, and instead of staying the night we decided we would rather have driven the 4 hour drive home. When we called management the next day they said we still needed to pay for the room because we did not complain when we got there (needed to get tot the wedding). They charged us full price for leaving a cup in the room. Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel and town as there is nothing else to stay in. read more

This was by far the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced! Management at the hotel were very unprofessional and rude. When Checking in for our visit, the price was different than what was quoted to us and when we produced the online booking, they still wouldn't honor it. The rooms were filthy, the ice machine didn't work, the outside doors to the hotel were not locked even though they said you would need a key card to enter. The curtains were hanging off the hooks, broken, sheets were dirty and stained, I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy! One of the families in our party left and stayed at the Super 8, which was great!! When I asked to speak to the owner, I was told that he doesn't return calls and that they have a hard time getting in touch with him but the ironic thing of it is his son is the manager, with whom we dealt with on our arrival. My niece was in a room with a hot tub and the minute you walked in her room, it smelled like mold and mildew! It wasn't clean at all. read more

The lady at the front desk, Dallas was totally rude, and called me a bitch for requesting a different room because the air wasnt working. We were moved to a different room, and the tv wouldn't work. Not the best. We booked a jacuzzi room for 1 night for $120. No hot water?! This was the whole point of getting this room. The carpets were damp/moldy and weird white residue on the floor(mold?). It is a bit run down as far as the carpet is gross, paint chips on floor from coming off the walls. My biggest issue is the staff do not appear to be abiding by covid rules. No masks! Immediately upon entering I used an entire can of lysol on the room out of fear the people responsible for cleaning aren't doing it properly and not wearing masks. No sanitizer anywhere. It is understandable that we can't use the pool/hot tub in the lobby area due to Covid, but are still paying for those amenities at $120/night. No breakfast served due to Covid. The hallways stink of cigarettes when it is supposed to be no smoking. For this price I would expect this room to be much nicer as well as have access to all amenities. I will say that the tables, bathroom etc. did appear to be clean. I definitely would not recommend staying here during Covid. read more

Room is ok, some updates. Bed comfortable, air conditioner works great. Outside doors are only accessible by room key which I think is important for security reasons. Easy check in, pool looks nice but I didn't go in. Has nice outdoor seating area. Nice fluffy towels that are changed daily . Only negative is it could use some more updates but does not affect my overall view. I would stay here again. read more

This was by far the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced. The hotel was completely booked, and the room I was given had no air conditioning during days with temperatures into the high 90s. The floor was so disgusting that I couldn't walk on it without feeling like I was getting dirty so I wore shoes throughout my entire stay. The shower only worked as a shower and nothing else. The bed sheets were rough and the pillows smelled stale. The walls have spots gouged our of them. And my curtains didn't completely shut, so I had to move a lamp to hold them shut. I wish I could say that staff was the best part, but they were just a bad as the hotel room itself. I told them about my air conditioning being out and they said "You can't stay in that room" but had no other rooms to give me, and no way to fix it. And said they'd take care of me. The next morning I talked to the lady who was supposedly the assistant manager, but had a lip ring that looked incredibly unprofessional, and she told me they gave me half off of one night I stayed there. This was not acceptable, and she told me there was nothing she could do until I literally wouldn't accept that and she called the real manager who finally approved half off of my stay. It wasn't even worth that but it honestly was worth the struggle anymore. I will never stay in another American Inn. I wouldn't send my enemy to an American Inn. It would be cheaper, cleaner, and more pleasant to stay at an AirBNB or basically any other accommodations. Please steer clear of this hotel, I wish I could have. read more

Only thing I liked about the hotel was the location to the Ionia county fair grounds. We stayed two nights because my husband was in a wedding at the fair grounds. We ended up with a handicap room because that was the only room available when my husband call to book a room. Staff was friendly, but when we got to the room we were quite disappointed! We were told the bed was slightly bigger then a full (maybe slightly bigger then a twin), there were hole all over in the walls, shower head was broken, the fan in the bathroom looked like something inside of it caught on fire and plastic started dripping down (in photo I added) and the sheets would not stay on the bed they kept falling off, the pillows were the size of throw pillow you put on a couch (we went to Walmart to buy better pillows). This hotel is absolutely disgusting. The first room they put me in my foot got stuck, yes stuck to the carpet. The front desk asked me if I would be okay with putting towels over the spot on the carpet. The second room they put me in the door would not latch. The third room I was put into, the phones didn't work, the bed was so uncomfortable and broken. I stayed in early January 2020. My room and all the common spaces were very clean. Room was pleasant and spacious, beds were comfortable. The fridge in the room was a decent size, not one of those little cubes. After I left I read the reviews that said it was dirty, but that was not my experience at all. I didn't use the pool, but it looked nice and didn't stink of chlorine. The free breakfast was good, with hard boiled eggs, among other things. Staff was friendly and helpful and recommended Olivera's, the Italian restaurant across the parking lot for dinner. That was really good, excellent vodka sauce. I made the reservation and paid on hotels.com. When I checked in, I gave them my credit card without thinking and they ran it. I realized in the morning what had happened and spoke to someone at the desk, who was very apologetic. The charge was reversed in about 10 days. I only mention it because I read another review that mentioned being double charged. I want to think that it was a mistake and also think forewarned is for armed. Overall, recommend and would stay again. read more

This is a great affordable place to stay. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. This is a very small town with no cab service so be prepared with a rental car. Next door is a really awesome Italian place with great specials. The rooms are clean and pretty big for the price. I had a really positive experience here! read more

horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! very nasty rooms my family and myself will never stay here again. we had hair on our pillows and stains on the sheets floors were not vacuumed bathroom floor and bathtub had hair on them. which the housekeeping stated they could not get good help in their hotel from the people in their town. there was also people fighting outside our hotel window at 2:30 in the morning and when i called when i returned home from my trip i called the hotel and the very rude guy at the desk said that none of this was a major problem. do not waste your time or money staying here read more
