Where to start? I have been coming here for over ten years. In thet ten years have made many friends, learned from others. The size has almost quadrupled so there is something for everyone. No pool, fancy towels or steam rooms with schweaty guys. A real gym with everything from free weights to computer assisted lift machines. You will encounter strong men, body builders, athletes, body models, crossfit, yoga and even some pudgy, boomer, honeybadgers like me trying to max out machines. Speaking of machines, you will hard pressed to find all of the machines here at other gyms. The unique and unicorn are all represented. The staff is always excellent. The ownership team is absolutely focused on your happiness and health. They give back to the community and are the nicest people you could ever meet. I was reading through the comments and want people to understand that all walks of life, gender, race, religion or sexual orientation are welcome here, this a very diverse gym. Having worked and worked out at a few gyms in the Reno area I can officially say that American Iron is an incredible gym. The sense of community at this place is unparalleled by any other and with all the growth they've had in the last two years, you can now do just about any kind of workout that fits your style. I don't lift super heavy weights but they have plenty of powerlifters and strongman there who can easily get their workouts in and love it. There are a number of bodybuilders if that's your thing. I do more natural movement, a small amount of CrossFit-type exercises, and calisthenics. I can even get my boxing in on the days I need to hit something. This gym has it all and I love that! I always see staff cleaning - the owners are machines with how they run this gym. Never seen anything quite like it. I'm a fairly new convert to American Iron, but, from what I've seen, it's one of the most unique and value-driven gyms in Reno. With accessible hours, abundant equipment and opportunities for personal training, American Iron has some great perks. For potential members, be aware that this gym is pretty no-frills, but it does offer all of the most basic and advanced weightlifting equipment you'll ever need--including squat racks, free weights, kettle bells and more--as well as cardio machines. Among the patrons you'll find professional bodybuilders, exercise newbies, seniors and young people alike. When I first joined, I paid extra to work with one of the on-staff licensed personal trainers, Kindra Cannon, and I can't recommend her enough. She taught me how to use machines I'd never worked with before, and she gave me plenty of encouragement throughout the process (and tough love, when I needed it). She also offers meals plans as an add-on to her services. If you're just looking for a basic membership, this gym offers the most bang for your buck that I've seen in Reno, at around $30 per month (less if you buy several months or a year at a time). Things to consider: -The music appears to be a looping playlist of the same 20 metal, alternative and heavy rock songs (I'm pretty sure I've heard Papa Roach's "Last Resort" at least four dozen times since I became a member). If that kind of music isn't your jam, be sure to download Spotify or Pandora and listen to your own music on your smartphone. The wi-fi is free for members! -This gym can be intimidating, especially for women and/or beginners, who seem to be in the minority. Since the gym can get pretty busy during peak hours, other members will ask to work in with your equipment or swoop in on your machines while you're doing a circuit, so make sure you're willing to speak up if you need to. But many of the members are also experienced gym rats, so if you're willing to accommodate others and follow proper gym etiquette then you'll be treated well. The women who *do* go to American Iron are total badasses, by-and-large, so the atmosphere can be quite motivating if you give it a chance. -The location, on Rock Blvd on the east side of the airport, is off the beaten path for many Renoites, so take this into consideration if a close proximity to the gym is important to you. read more

This gym is amazing! I'm a powerlifter and I dropped in for a day. The fee was $15, not too bad. But man, what a great place to lift weights! They had everything a powerlifter could want, as well as many other types of athletes. Several types of squat racks, deadlift platforms, great benches, lots of accessory machines, chalk, competition bars, the works. I talked to Tamara Lopes, one of the owners, and she couldn't have been more friendly, helpful, or knowledgeable about lifting. America Iron continues to impress me. It's a no nonsense gym with a great variety of equipment/workout options plus. As I was leaving one day I asked if they had any recommendations for a nutritionist. Turns out they have one on staff. They have a nutritionist that graduated from UNR and worked at Saint Mary's hospital on staff. How many gyms offer that? So I scheduled a half hour consultation with Jackie a few days later. We talked about what my goals were and she asked me to write down my meals for a week and send them to her. We met a few weeks later and was impressed with her attention to detail and diligence on helping me figure out a plan for me to meet my goals. During that meeting she asked me to do a few more things and is still working on helping me meet my goals. Looking forward to see what she comes back with for me and can confidently say she has my best interest in mind. Unfortunately did not get this same feeling from a UNR nutritionist I saw a few years back. Needless to say I plan on being a member of this gym for many years to come and look forward to learning more about what they have to offer to their members. read more

What a cool gym! Everyone was so kind and welcoming. I met my trainer here and paid $10 for a day pass to workout with her. There are many different rooms with plenty of space to workout and use the machines/equipment. Would DEFINITELY recommend checking this out. Came here on the weekend to get my pump on while in town for a push,pull and squat seminar at Black Iron Gym. Like my other review, I love this gym. They have all the essential equipment needed for all the gainz. They even got new equipment if you want to try more! I love love love the new weightlifting room they added. It was so brand spanking new, I didn't even want to go workout in it and get my sweat everywhere so I worked out in the old room lol. Tips - bring your own mobility items. The foam rollers there are like pillows for my butt :( they have a new mobility room though with a table so you don't have to take up valuable gym space outside lol. They also have tires and the stone balls if you want to try more cardio/endurance and strength work outs! So much fun items here!! $10 drop in or 30$ a month! read more

Still one of the best gyms in America. And that's coming from someone who's been to golds, sterns, loprinzis, metroflex etc. so believe me when I tell you this is as good as a gym gets! My day pass when I visit is 15 bucks, which I've never had a hard time paying...but that is a bit steep. This is the best gym I have ever been to for serious lifters and beginners. I competed for 3 years in NPC figure, and so many times I have had gyms that only have 2-3 power racks/squat racks, there's like 15. I've been lifting for 7. I have been going here for 8-9 months 7-6 days a week, and never have I had to wait for a squat rack. Lots of dead lifting areas as well. The equipment is never broken, like all the cables are in good shape, (damage cables can lead to a nasty accident when they snap and 100 lbs force of a metal bar comes at your face.) they also are always working on improving things. The cardio room is small but never full. Dumb bells go up to very high amounts. Which isn't cheap for a gym to maintain, dumbbells sell for a dollar on the pound used. Get up to 120lb dumb bells, a set of 2 is like 240 bucks. They have over 100 dumbbells easy. The owner, you always see walking around talking to people, and they are athletes themselves so they know what the gym needs to be the best. They have power lifting classes and all sorts of others. They also do powerlifting meets and events locally. The trainers are very respectful and helpful. If they see you doing a lift a little off (since they are actually power lifters that compete and lift crazy amounts of weight, at their events the girls deadlift cars!) They will come over and be like try this, and the advice I have gotten has always help. Also they have an app and online store that you can pick your session times on and with the trainer of your choice. They give rewards through check ins as well. They are active on fb and insta, and even stayed open when flooding was a risk! They also stay open on xmas and thanksgiving. 365 day gym. They also have massage and cross fit stuff I have yet to check out. read more

In-town for a business trip and found this gem of a gym to work out at. It's located in a small business complex adjacent to a crossfire gym. Really tidy/ modern facility, and very friendly patrons and employees... The locker room/restroom was a little small, but it served its purpose. Remember to bring your own lock! I only visited the powerlifting/weightlifting area so I can't really speak towards the other areas... but they had an Eleiko training bar/plate set from 2015 worlds (Houston) and pendlay bars/plates to make a traveling weightlifter feel right at home. read more
