2 years ago I walked into Evoke for one of their 30 day Challenges. I hadn't participated in group fitness classes in several years, so I was a little apprehensive, but very excited to get started. What I didn't realize at the time, was how transformative Evoke was going to be in my life. Mena and her team are quite literally the best in town (don't just take my word for it... Mena literally won PBS Reno Extraordinary Individual in 2023). She has supported me in and outside of the gym and has been a cheerleader in my life. She's a mama Mena who will love you and kick your booty into shape at the same time. My physical and mental healthy has drastically improved since starting at Evoke. The trainers genuinely care about their clients and push them to be their best. As someone with a pre-existing injury, I have been super impressed with how supportive the trainers are when working around injuries. I primarily train with Sarah (who is seriously amazing) and she will have a modification planned for me before I even arrive to the group class. I've been attending classes at Evoke for almost a full year now (thanksgiving is my anniversary!) so I thought I should update my review. Evoke is truly a special place--one with trainers who care about their clients and one of the most encouraging environments I've seen. I've been to lots of gyms and workout classes over the years and this is definitely my favorite one. Mena truly has a passion for helping folks achieve their fitness goals, which is apparent any time you interact with her. She's always pushing people to go harder, longer, go heavier or do one more rep. Her workouts always kill me, but in the best way! Sarah and Erin are also incredible and definitely favorites of mine: their positive attitudes are so contagious and they're great at what they do. Mena, Lisa and Evven are absolutely great trainers. The facility is clean and the training is tough but will get you in peak performance. I have used Evoke Fitness for my high school kids (daughter plays volleyball and softball) and (son plays football and baseball) during summer to keep them in shape and to work on speed. I met Evoke through Renown Motivate You program that I applied for through my work. I needed to do something to get my health back in order. Mena set me up with a great nutrition plan and with Ian to train. Through Mena, it was the first time in four years where I was able to lose weight and regain energy. Evoke is a great gym here in Reno that I highly recommend anybody looking for a gym give a look. Evoke is a wonderful place to go for anybody of any fitness level. I am usually intimidated by going to the gym because there are usually the "Super Bro" type person who is there to grunt loudly, show everybody how strong they are and throw weights around. This isn't like that. Evoke has a wide variety of services, from group training (10-20 people) to fitness boot camp/challenge type classes (30 days long with a pre test and post test as well as an event awards dinner at the end) to personal training to pilates to crossfit to bikini/fitness/physique training and so much more. They are able to do this with the help of some wonderful trainers that are incredibly knowledgable and motivating. From making sure you maintain the proper form to helping you make sure your diet is complimenting the work you are doing, Evoke's trainers are some of the best in Reno. Trainers are only a part of the equation though. The people who attend classes at evoke are some great people who are really friendly. There are usually people of varying fitness levels so finding someone to partner with or pace yourself with is easy. People here also are attentive, helping to motivate me when I need it, compliment and cheer when it is deserved as well as give me a call or text if I miss a class I said I'd be at. Ultimately, these are the people who help make Evoke as great as it is. You feel like you are a part of a big, fun, friendly family when you are here. I've been doing their fitness challenges for the last couple months and have really seen some great results with the help of trainers who keep things fun and interesting while motivating me to do my best and my fellow attendees and challengers helping push me and making sure I show up. Just finished my 30 day challenge. I am telling EVERYONE about this. It was hard, don't get me wrong, but worth it. The instructors are all friendly, knowledgeable and are there to help and answer questions anytime. My favorite part of this gym is I quickly recognized how the instructors got to know the clients by first name and on a personal level. This is a true family atmosphere. Also they took their time going over proper technique when doing all moves from squats to the rowing machine. Evoke is my new happy place!!! "Covid Times" led to me doing zero exercise and enjoying food and libations like I was at an all inclusive resort in Mexico for the past 10 months. This led to weight gain, tiredness, zero motivation and feeling blah. I decided I was ready to make a change and decided to sign up for the Winter 40 Day Challenge and I am so grateful my husband wanted to join me. We instantly felt welcomed and part of the Evoke family. Due to some major injuries/surgeries I need to modify a lot of exercise. The coaches always had amazing alternatives, were patient and kind but also pushed me out of my comfort zone. I loved how thoughtful everyone was in modifying and being creative with exercises for me. Mena and her team are extremely knowledgeable, dedicated, welcoming and FUN. My husband and I completed 40 classes in 35 days and felt like we got to go on 40 mini dates together! So much fun! We both not only feel physically stronger but mentally as well. My "Covid Times" of feeling blah is gone and I am excited to continue on my fitness journey. Speaking of Covid, Evoke takes their cleaning, sanitizing and social distancing seriously and we felt safe the entire time. I have gone to the gym for the past 15 years religiously but never found one I truly loved until I started going to Evoke. I had planned only to do the 30 day body challenge but as it turned out after 30 days I did not want to leave.
