I was taught, one on one, an easy beginner technique that allowed me to begin sparring right away. The respect the students have for the master, both young and old was mesmerizing. He made you feel like you were important and focused on you while you practiced. I would receive advice and coaching while practicing with my opponent. There is a healthy amount of teasing that makes you feel like you have been life long friends with all inside. They made me feel safe, comfortable, and able! I would have never willing walked on a mat to get punched in the face, yet I did it over three times. The control the master has taught to his students makes it safe and fun for all ages and skill levels. Over the past 20 years, I have seen Master Parson advance from 1st Queue (Brown belt), to the Master level (8th Dan) he is today. He is a highly respected martial artist on an international scale. Having more than 30 years as a martial artist myself, I will tell you he's one of the best natural fighters I've ever seen, and his ability to instruct foundational techniques as well as advanced fighting skills is 2nd to none. He's top tier in the American Kenpo Karate Federation, and so are those Black Belts he's instructed. If you are a parent seeking a martial arts program to instruct, guide, inspire, as well as teach your kids how to legitimately protect themselves, Master Parson's program should be highly considered. If you (YOURSELF ) want to learn a genuine, no-nonsense style of self defense, I encourage you to attend his classes. And yes, he's a personal friend whom I'm very proud of; not just because of his fighting abilities, but his passion to teach those skills to anyone whom enters his Dojo. Having read the review by Heather N, i would like to respond. I have four grandchildren enroled in Mr. parsons Karate school, and I would very much like to come to his defense. James Parson is a very strict instructor. His policy is to learn. Learn defense, and also dicipline. Having watched many of the classes, I know he cares very much for the students, and at times he needs to remind them of their need for dicipline. Some people such as Heather N may not realize that to be good at anything, You need to work hard at it. If her daughter was "kicked Out" as she claims, it must have been warrented, because i have seen problem children (and one of them was my Grandchild) be shown that You can do it, if you want. and Mr. Parson will take all the time needed to help his students. Believe me, there are quite a few parents who have children in his classes and they will defend his actions, because it is in the best interest of their children. since my Grandchildren have been enrollled in his school, i have noticed their growth mentally, physically, and morally. I believe if you look into Heather N's problem, it may be more HER than HIM. I would very Highly recomend his Karate school. And, NO I am not a personal friend of Mr. Pasons. I speak to him as in Hello and good bye, and thats mostly it. So all I can say at this point, is the problem may be on the other end.
