A bonus for EV drivers is their onsite fast charger. Driving here from NoVA, we could use the charge. Admission to the museum is $10 per person. There are a couple of displays inside along with a gift shop. We quickly headed outside though to check out the aircraft. My wife's favorite was the A4 Scooter with its skinny head-on profile and Blue Angels heritage. My favorite was the Osprey. I had no idea the rotors were that large on it. We took a lap inside the gift shop before heading back on the highway with a full charge. We spent about 90 minutes checking out all the aircraft there and enjoyed our visit.

Maybe that's because my expectations were realistic and not that high; this is a very small island and there is not much on it at all. But if it's a tourist trap, it's a very pretty tourist trap, worth a visit for the sheer novelty of it. The historicity of the location is somewhat interesting, but what drew me is the idea of being out on the Potomac on one of the most isolated spots you'll likely find within driving distance of the nation's capital. This place is way out there. I mean, even if you're already in Southern Maryland, it's a significant drive from most anything of consequence. It is at least a bucolic ride, and you can expect clear roads. The museum is small but reasonably well done, but really just something to do as you to wait for the ferry. Waiting for the boat, I was greeted by a pair of stingrays flapping pleasantly at the surface of the water (not pictured, sorry); you're not far from ocean here I guess. The boat is small and the ride quite rough on a windy day, which I'm guessing is a lot of days; if you get seasick or have mobility challenges I would recommend against it. The north side on which you arrive is decidedly barren and cactus-ridden (sandal-wearers beware). However, walking to the south quickly leaves one on a clear trail surrounded by thick underbrush. The only things you're likely to hear are wind, birds, and bugs (thankfully, the wind factor tends to minimize the biting/stinging ones). A few locals might be out fishing, but you're likely to have a lot of peace and quiet. A picnic area, a monument, and a lighthouse are the main landmarks. The island is eroding away, and has been reinforced by rocks on all sides; the one appreciable beach is on the south side. Trying to traverse the wilder parts of the island is dicey at best, but if you simply want to bathe in the sun and sea air, you can find a place. The ferry runs on very limited hours (10-3 on weekends in season, and that's it), but I found somewhere between 1.5-2 hours on the island sufficient for a fairly complete visit, one that can be interspersed with a day trip by some of the other scattered Southern Maryland Parks. The cost isn't a ton ($7 for museum and a ride to the island), but note that they do charge for children over five.

I always have fun and even though I have absolutely no artistic ability, I always come home with a masterpiece. We recently did a private party there for my birthday and we cant't wait to do that again! Our favorite instructor, Megan, is an amazing artist and made the steps so easy for us that even the young woman with autism that was with us was able to follow along and go home with a beautiful painting. We brought our own snacks, but the wine, beer and hard cider available for purchase is the icing on the cake. People of all ages can and SHOULD enjoy this very cool business. If you sign up for their emails, you will receive special bowling events with discount prices or unlimited bowling for a prefixed priced. After hours bowling is Friday nights from 10-close! The music is banding and it is unlimited bowling for about $15 or so per person! The Guy and I love going bowling then! Such a good time! Great location and great specials with AMF! Love the Waldorf location!

Both being competitive, we love a challenge, so bowling it is! Got to give it to the old man he beat me! But rightfully so he better be a better bowler than me with 15 years more experience. This is a run down bowling alley but it does the trick. We got there when it opened so no crowds and great service. On the smaller side but does the job. First, be warned that this place very difficult to find. Google Maps took us to a house address and we had to call them to get to the right place. Once we got there, the view was beautiful. They asked us to sit down at a table and said they'd bring the wines over to us. The entire time, it felt like we were intruding on a private party (a lot of people were hanging around the bar - it may have been for their wine club). They weren't very attentive - they waited a long time between each tasting, to the point where it felt awkward just sitting there. We tasted four wines, then assumed the tasting was over because they stopped coming over. TL;DR: the venue is beautiful, experience wasn't great, but the staff (while inattentive) was very friendly. The wine was eh - none we tried were good enough to bring home. The only thing that made it better was that the tasting was free since they've just started offering that.

My wife and I love going to plays and were pleasantly surprised to find out that this place has been in our own backyard for all these years. We went to the opening night performance for Legally Blonde and we were blown away by the amazing performance. We didn't know what to expect going in with this being our first time at the theater. We kept our expectations low because we figured, oh well this is just a small county theater so let's not expect a broadway performance. The performance however was much better than we anticipated and it very well could have been a broadway play with how great the performers did. The show was put together so well and everything was done flawlessly. My wife and I left that performance thinking we can't wait to come back to see another show!

Port Tobacco Players is a small playhouse nestled in the town of LaPlata right on Charles Street…read morebeside the train tracks. SOMD has many wonderful, hidden gems, and PTPLAYERS is no exception. My wife and I have seen many productions at this playhouse, and left impressed time after time. They are ambitious in choosing which productions to take on. Currently, they are running RagTime, a play that I first saw many moons ago at the National Theatre in Washington DC. Let me just say this... RUN, DRIVE, JOG, UBER, LYFT, TROT if you have to, but get there. This production was excellent from the acting, to the singing, to the costumes, the staging, the sets, etc... were all fantastic!!! I grew up in the theater, and this performance was Broadway quality for sure. So, in general, PTPLAYERS is small but a good size playhouse. The staff is always kind and helpful. The building, although recently renovated, still has that Old Towne feel. Here's the best part. In lieu of the typical movie night, treat yourself to a live performance for almost the same cost of movie tickets. Also, I had the pleasure of speaking with one of the Board Members and Director of Costumes, Janice Sagers. Her passion about the arts and this theater confirms my thoughts that this playhouse is indeed a SOMD gem! One last thing. Make your evening complete by dining at the farm to table restaurant across the street, The Charles. (See my review of The Charles)
