These guys are great. Really helpful and knowledgeable. I came in to cut a key/ program a fob for my car because apparently it was more than a battery replacement could fix. They asked all the right questions and we learned that someone, I'm not naming names, inserted the battery upside down and that is why an easy replacement didn't work. These guys are a rip-off. They milled a key for my 2019 Honda Fit which was thicker than my original and it was grabbing when I tried it in the door and ignition. They tried to smooth it down but I was still not happy with it. The manager said I could be refunded but only have me half of the $100 I paid, saying they had to pay for the programming and now they have a key they can't use. He said it was a perfectly good key and I told him I didn't agree. I asked him what would happen if there was buildup inside the ignition and the key got stuck and he said that would be a problem with my car. So, I walked away without a product I was happy with and they kept $50. Like I said, a rip-off. They could have just as easily eaten $50 and given better customer service. read more

I've used them for years for both business and personal. They make good key copies and have a massive wall of blanks to fit a lot of non-standard locks. They sell and install good hardware. This place deserves a medal! We were on vacation and the key to the car bent in the trunk. We had to Uber to a place in Pacific Grove who referred us to American Lock and Key. We got another ride there and it was close to closing. Luis greeted us. He warned us that the key may be broken from the pressure, but he would do his best. He made us a key (didn't break the other key) and didn't charge us because he was unsure if it was going to work. We promised to come back the next day and settle up. We got another ride back to the car and the key worked!!! We came back the next day (with donuts of course) and got a second key made and settled our bill. Wow, I really wanted to like this place. It's close, family owned and appears to be run by good honest people. Well the problem lies in the employees customer service skills. Not dealing with difficult people, just the super basic bottom line customer service which is just common courtesy. I walked into american lock and key, and there's an old man getting something done (really wassnt paying much attention to it) and he's being helped by this blonde kid who's working the counter. I let him help the old man but was a little put off at the fact he didn't do anything about the fact I walked in and waited. At the very least one would expect a "welcome" or an "I'll be right with you" and granted if that happened, I wouldent be writing this review. So I stood there and waited at this point just to be acknowledged. 10 minutes go by and in that 10 minutes I look over at the guy working the counter and he peeked up, we met eyes and he quickly peered back down. So now not only am I not getting helped, I'm not getting acknowledged, I'm being actively ignored. Cool! Audios! My new liberty safe had to be trucked down from san Jose, the guys who delivered it were amazing and installed it perfectly. Also it was great doing buisness with them. Going into american lock and key was literally nothing more that a waste of time, which I hate. So now they don't get my buisness, and they get a shitty review. The other guys got tipped. I took my car here because I was having a problem with the ignition key and the and the dealer recommended them. I arrived there and drove to the rear of the building but there was no parking space available. There is no street parking there I parked at the of the driveway and went inside. An employee was working on something so I told him that I have a question but that ended as a woman came from the back and told me very sternly, "You have to move your car." She told me that again after seeing the there was no parking available in the back. I said I only have a question. "I'll have to find another locksmith." Someone said, "OK". Knowing they were closing, I intended to only ask if they had the blank and would return if they did. Not only did they have the blank, they graciously cut 2 keys.
