i have 2 kids, a6 year old boy and 3 year old girl..my son joined amaa a 2 years ago, and my daughter just goes with us to watch..she'll start in the summer... When we go there it's like our second home, everyone there is family!! we know everyone and everyone knows us and love my kids..they treat my kids and all students like they r their own.. My son is happier, healthier,more disciplined more focused so passionate about it, if we don't go for a day, he thinks it's a punishment.!!! The masters & instructors there are simply amazing, they are awesome martial arts masters & instructors and the best role models any mom could ask for her kids!! they are so patient, loving, funny, professional the kids just adore them and us parents are so proud to be part of that facility.. I have three children, a girl and two boys, ages 12, 6 & 5. We have been going to American Martial Arts Academy (AMAA) for two years now. AMAA offers a comprehensive curriculum based on traditional martial arts of TaeKwonDo striking, Judo take-downs, Ground Grappling & Hapkido's self-defense techniques to both, children and adults. One of the best decisions I've done for my son is to sign him up in American Martial Arts Academy. My son has been there for 2.5 years, since he was Kindergarten. AMAA not only trains kids to become great Taekwondo athletes, but what I love most, is that they teach and cultivate kids to be good citizens and well-rounded individuals. Kids are consistently reminded of the 5 academy tenets (loyalty, self-control, responsibility, humility, respect), and to strive to become excellent and confident in everything that they do, whether in AMAA, at home, in school, etc. AMAA is also a facility with an excellent variety of classes. Aside from the after-school learning center with full curriculum, they also offer art classes and piano classes. I feel very lucky, very honored and privileged to have my son be part of AMAA. At the age of 7, he has competed in several local taekwondo tournaments, and has had several piano recitals (and will be tested soon for CA Cert of Merit piano exam). We started our son at AMAA during the summer of 2010. We were looking for a place he could go and meet new friends, that had caring counselors, and a small town feel. AMAA delivered on all levels and more. Our son was a bit shy the first day, but Mr. Cesar the director of the summer camp, took time out of his busy day to go and speak with him for about 15 minutes which was all it took. After that our son was thrilled to go there, learn TKD and feel that he was accepted by the other kids, counselors and all the TKD instructors. Since the summer he has excelled in his TKD lessons, was invited into the Black Belt Club and asked to join the Modern Day Knights Demo team and perform at local events and competitions. It has been and still is a great experience for him. They teach all the children about respect and courtesy for adults and their parents. The owner (Master Kwak), is very passionate about his studio and providing a great experience for everyone that either attends for TKD classes or the learning center. This is a great opportunity for children and adults... we recommend it highly! read more

The kids, staff, and even parents are open to anyone who joins. Master Kwak really seeks what is best for his students and the parents. Every staff that has worked at AMAA has shown nothing but kindness. When I was a color belt, I had trouble doing a jumping front roll, but the instructors that was teaching me did not give up on me or get mad; they kept encouraging me and helped me gain confidence, just like what they do for every other student. We also have an adult class, so this studio is not only for kids. In addition, if you go to AMAA, we also offer a learning center, which is a program where, after school, the staff picks up the kids from their school and goes to the studio, and they get small snacks and do homework, and the staff who is watching them helps them with any homework that is needed. I recommend this place to anyone interested in learning martial arts, kids, or adults, and if you are a busy parent, then the learning center is very helpful for your kids! My 10 yr old son has been a student here for the last 4 years. We brought him in because we thought it would be a good place to start in regards to helping him with focus and self control. We have ended up with so much more. The masters and instructors are the best in the business. You will not find better training in Ventura county, AMAA is ranked 9th in the entire nation turning out elite athletes. My son has gained confidence, strength, flexibility, self defense, and a true sense of self. He has matured exponentially under the guidance of his masters and his team. The family community feel is so supportive, as a former soccer mom I have never experienced anything like it! There's even a super fun parent/adult class that I have now joined and would highly recommend for strength, balance, and flexibility. I cannot say enough good things about Master Kwak and his staff, Master Juliet, Master Luke, Instructor Ellis, and Instructor Sarah. As a young child, my son was involved in team sports like baseball and soccer. He did not seem to enjoy it much. School wasn't his "thing" either so he didn't feel there was anything he excelled at. Then, my dad (his grandpa), thought that he might do better at an individual sport. His Grandpa interviewed most of the martial arts studios in Simi Valley and decided that AMAA was the best and enrolled my son. That was 3 years ago. My son loves AMAA and Tae Kwon Do. He is good at it and has passion for it. It has built-up his self-esteem more than we could have ever helped him with on our own, and more than we thought possible. American Martial Arts Academy (AMAA) is not just a martial arts studio. They have an after school learning center program with qualified counselors who help make sure the kids complete their homework. Don't worry about getting them there, AMAA will pick up your kids from school for you! They also offer piano lessons at the facility for those who would like to learn piano. AMAA is also a great place to have your kid's birthday party. We have been to many parties there as well as had our own birthday parties there. In the studio the instructors are all so good leading the classes. It's amazing to see one instructor keeping the attention of 30+ children! Our daughter has been attending AMAA for over two and a half years. (Yes, there are plenty of girls there!) AMAA also has classes for adults. It's never too late to start! read more

We just started here and my wife and kids would never go anywhere else. I had a young punk approach me a few weeks ago and threaten me because I posted an honest review of his petty business. His wife's whole family works there- mom and sisters- and they all basically drink themselves under the table and call it a day. This self righteous coward threatened to "knock me off my ass". In front of my 9 year old boy. I think that martial art should be part of everyone's curriculum, a skill not to be taken for granted. In just a few weeks, i feel confident and more prepared to deal with someone who might threaten physical violence to me or my family. To that punk, I say your wife is a washed up drunk aging poorly. American Martial Arts Academy is a place for kids to learn, make lifelong friendships and learn to be a responsible citizen. My son started about 10 months ago and I already see a change. He is a shy and soft spoken 7 year old, but through AMAA, he is becoming more confident and his self -esteem continues to grow. The staff focuses their teaching on core values: self control, responsibility, and respect - just to name a few. At the same time, they are all very friendly, fun and warm to everyone that walks through their doors. My son loves attending his classes their during the week and is looking forward to summer camp in a few months. The staff is incredible! My son is involved in both the learning center and the TKD program here. In the time that he hass been going to AMAA for the learning center my wife and I have seen a dramatic improvement in our sons academics (went from an average student to being tested for GATE program). As a family, both my boys, my wife and I all are involved in the TKD program. All I can say in AMAZING! the instructors are incredible and patient. They promote self-defense not agressiveness. They live and breathe by the schools tenents: Respect, Loyality, Responsibility, Self-Control and Humility. You don't have to have a "problem" child to go there, your child just has to be willing to try it! I attended a free lesson here while visiting Simi Valley on a trip. I had the most incredible time in adult class--all the other participants were incredibly kind to me as a beginner and I received great guidance from Master Kwak and Master Juliet. The community here is very tight knit; the instructors, students, and families always encourage each other to improve while never losing sight of what the studio's values are. In the few times I've visited since then, I've always felt accepted and included within the AMAA community. I plan on moving to California this year, and the first thing I will be doing is signing up for weekly classes to eventually earn my black belt! read more

Negative stars if I could!!!!! My sister was in kindergarten and the tip of her finger was chopped off under the "supervision" of this place. DO NOT send your kids here unless you want them to come back missing a body part. They were not watching the kids and the bathroom door swung both directions, the bigger kids came running behind her and BAM... guillotined finger in the door. Afterward they refused to be accountable for their carelessness and my mom (single mom working 2 jobs) had to pay over $10,000 in medical bills to have my sisters finger reattached. My sister is 18 now and this is what her finger looks like compared to the normal one. read more

This studio is much more than a place to get energy out, it is a thriving community. The instructors and masters not only provide high quality training, but also create events that bring the students and parents closer together. I have been attending this studio for about 19 years now, and I am now an employee. We were ranked the #9 team in the nation this last year, and won Best Martial Arts School in the 2025 Acorn contest; there is certainly no better spot to receive taekwondo training in Ventura County. The AMAA is a wonderful after school program. We can rest assured that our children will not only be supervised but continue their learning day. Not only do they have daily homework time that is supervised but they also participate in Tae Kwon Do. The confidence and physical endurance that our children have gained while at AMAA has been incredible. We cannot wait until next year when all three of our children will be there.
