And I was also going to the range enough to get frustrated at how I was stuck at my skill level and knew I needed training. With that, it's difficult to explain how much better, more confident, and comfortable I am with a firearm since I started training with Edmond (OJ). His expertise in the field is apparent immediately, and he has a resume that is hard to beat. But that's half of it. He's a great teacher who has the master-level talent of identifying your skill level, correcting mistakes, and patiently pushing you to a higher level than you thought was possible in yourself. As a relative beginner when it comes to firearms, I was a pretty nervous going into it but everyone on the Medic Up team was so professional and patient. They had good senses of humor too, which made the class fun and eased my nerves. There were 18 people in my training, and plenty of instructors. Someone was always there to help me when I needed it. Victor and Sebastian helped me with my grip and trigger pull which significantly improved my accuracy. Not only are these guys very knowledgeable and skilled when it comes to firearms, you can tell they are passionate about it as well. Beyond actually shooting a gun, they also provided education regarding life saving measures and the importance of legal representation. Matt led the legal portion, and he had a vast understanding of every bill/law pertaining to 2A rights. It was very eye opening and inspired me to do my own research. Sebastian presented the medical info and you can tell he knows his stuff. He demonstrated how to respond to gun shot wounds to different parts of the body, such as using a tourniquet, packing a wound, or using a chest seal. When I got home I ordered a few more things for my emergency kit based off his recommendations. Day 2 was in a classroom, led by Randy. He was incredibly knowledgeable and answered every question and hypothetical situation thrown at him. He provided a lot of clarity regarding when you can legally defend yourself using your firearm. Also, I received my course completion certificate from Juan by the end of the day. Overall, this was a very organized, well-rounded course led by professionals. Despite my nerves going into it, there wasn't a moment where I regretted being there or felt uncomfortable. TBH I liked it so much I wish it was longer! It was engaging and informative and I walked away learning way more than I thought I would. I am excited to continue to hone my skills and I will definitely be taking more courses with Medic Up in the future.

Before this class, there were alot of things I was unsure about in regards to carrying, legalities, and mindset. We live in an age where everyone on the internet can give an opinion or advice, no matter how bad or wrong it may be. After this weekend, I feel both confident and comfortable in my understanding now. You get REAL answers and advice from active and retired law enforcement officers. They dont bullshit you or try to sell you fluff. And man, they know how to have a good time and keep things fun. 16 hours flew by and left me wanting to come back just to hang with them again! No matter how simple or basic a question you may have, they never make you feel stupid, nor put you down, and they really take the time to address ANYTHING. During the online purchase process, Sako suggested a few FFL's, and Guns LA was one of them. I said yep, although I had never been here, and away we go. A few weeks later, I received an email notice that the rifle had arrived at Guns LA, and I drove over to go through the transfer drill. They buzzed me right in, I was greeted by a couple of the guys, and they handled everything right away. Typical easy California transfer: pages of paperwork, produce CDL, provide DNA sample, raise your right hand and swear you are not a communist or a Klingon, take a polygraph...the usual drill. Because they have a highly Yelp rated gunsmith, I handed them the Leopold scope and mounting rings I had purchased and asked them to mount it (yeah...as if I could have mounted it). No problemo. Ten long days later, I returned (and yes, the DROS paperwork stamps the exact minute from the ten days you started the process and you are damn RIGHT I was there at the exact minute to accept my rifle). They gave me a break on the price of mounting the scope since I did the transfer paperwork there, which was generous and unexpected. Everything was perfect. Although I live in Pasadena, and there are closer gun shops, I would absolutely go to these guys again. Thumbs up and thank you!

Thankfully, I found Guns LA right around the corner. After seeing their great reviews on Yelp and Google, I decided to stop by and I'm so glad I did. Deon helped me from the start and was incredibly professional and knowledgeable. He never made me feel uncomfortable and took the time to explain everything clearly. Not only did he inspect and fix my firearm, but he also spent time teaching me how to properly use my Holosun sight and gave me helpful tips to improve my shooting. He even shared a flyer for private training lessons, which I really appreciated. Best of all, there was zero pressure to buy anything. He genuinely cared about helping me, not making a sale. When I returned to pick up my handgun, Deon and Mike explained that the previous dealer had actually left out some important parts, something they couldn't believe.
