He's polite, helpful, and supportive and he really helped me learn very helpful safe handling and technique. Honestly the value of the class was very worth it for the knowledge I gained and the practice and training I received. I would definitely recommend this business if you are looking to learn real life applications of your training and not just read a book.

First day was in the office where topics were covered via PowerPoint presentation and Pete allowed us to do dry firing with airsoft guns. Second day was at the range for about 1.5hr where he taught us safe operation (i.e. grip, stance, aiming, accuracy, loading, unloading). Special remarks: Pete's dedication to gun safety and safe gun operation is apparent in the way he teaches. He is passionate about safety and an enthusiastic teacher which made the class fun. One of his most valuable strengths is that he was able to teach in a way that I could understand. (Side note: I am afraid of guns but took this class to combat that fear!) Pete was able to keep the class engaged, provided constructive feedback, and attention to detail. With his guidance and support, I was able to see a significant improvement in my grouping and decrease my fear of guns overall. Also, I made new friends in the class :) **I will be returning for other classes. Definitely recommend.

From the moment I walked into the classroom, Edmund made everyone feel welcome. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students and has put a tremendous amount of thought into every aspect of the course. Everything was organized, professional, and ran smoothly. Day two on the range was just as impressive. Robert and Dave brought the same level of professionalism, patience, and enthusiasm. No matter your experience level, they take the time to coach, answer questions, and make sure you're learning the right way. I never felt rushed or intimidated--just encouraged to become a safer and more confident shooter. I walked away with far more knowledge, confidence, and practical skills than I expected. I genuinely feel like I'm leaving as a more proficient shooter and a more responsible gun owner. If you're on the fence or comparing CCW courses, do yourself a favor and stop searching. This is the class you want to take. Thanks again to Edmund, Robert, and Dave for an outstanding experience!

The in-class session with Edmund was incredibly informative and engaging, and the live-fire range training with Edmund, Dave, Gio, Don, and Robert was exciting all the way through. I had so much fun that I'm already looking forward to taking more advanced training sessions, and I would highly recommend Shoot Safe to anyone looking to level up their skills!

They have classroom spaces upstairs, which is where my instructor provided a lot of useful, practical information on my firearm: I assembled my AR on my own and learned quite a bit during that process, but he further showed me how to disassemble it completely (I purchased a complete upper so didn't know how the BCG fully operated) and best practices for using and cleaning it. Then we went down to lane 18 for hands-on training. Shot about 100 rounds -- my instructor helped me zero in both my iron sights and a red dot with magnifier I installed on my AR. Everyone there seemed to be expert firearms owners, which is a good thing vs. people who are unsafe and not following safe usage guidelines (I've heard other ranges in L.A. County allow newbies on the range without instruction -- not a good idea for obvious safety reasons). I also like that they have a lounge area where people who are not shooting can still look through thick glass/plexiglass and be safe doing it. Also, they provide a sink and soap so you can wash your hands afterwards (hint: you don't want gunpowder or other after-effects of shooting on your hands should law enforcement pull you over for another reason). You can rent a lane by the hour ($25/hour). No reservations so first come, first served. Will definitely be going back here for more practice. Recommended!

First Time and Excellent Experience…read more This was our first time taking a firearm course, and we came as a group of four wanting to learn the basics and, most importantly, how to handle firearms safely and responsibly. From the moment we arrived, we felt that safety was the top priority. The setting was amazing, the location was great, and the entire experience was extremely well organized. Doug and Paula were fantastic instructors. They paid incredible attention to detail and were very patient throughout the entire course. They explained everything clearly, including proper handling, safety procedures, and how to keep everyone around us safe. They took the time to walk us through every step, answered all of our questions, and never made us feel rushed or uncomfortable asking for clarification. By the time we left, we felt much more knowledgeable and confident about the fundamentals of safe firearm handling. We couldn't have asked for a better experience for our first course. Doug and Paula were professional, knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely focused on making sure everyone was safe. Highly recommend them to anyone looking to learn the fundamentals of firearm safety and responsible handling.

I later spoke with Paula who was friendly and helpful, she told me she was gathering enough people for a small beginners class for women, I asked if I could bring some friends and she said yes. We signed up and she provided all the information via email. I nor my friends had ever shot guns before so we were a little nervous. We got to the range and met Sayaka, who was badass! She assisted us to get geared up and shared about her expertise. There was about 6 people in our class, so it made it very intimate and they were able to assist us individually if needed! Paula and Sayaka went over various topics of safety. Already it made me feel at ease. Paula is so knowledgeable and quite hilarious she had be cracking up the entire class. Paula and Sayaka made a great team and they explained everything thoroughly. Such cool ladies! I was so inspired by them! We went over the movement of pulling the gun out from the holster over and over and over. But we didn't use the gun just learned the movements so we can get comfortable. Then we moved on to actually holding the gun. It was really helpful, because once we began shooting the adrenaline spiked! I got a lil scared and so did my friend but Paula and Sayaka were extremely patient and helpful. They showed us how to shot, where to shot, and how to reload. They gave me so much confidence that I could be badass like them! I will definitely be back and taking the next course. The three hours flew by! It was a lot of fun! We didn't know we were gonna get to shot in the shoothouse so that was a surprise and such a great time! Paula got some cool pics of us. 10/10 experience and I def recommend to women who have never shot before. It's definitely a necessity to protect ourselves and our loved ones!

The ENTIRE beginner's course is built around learning the principles of firearm SAFETY, and Tom and his crew never let you forget why. The attention given to safety and critical thinking from the top rendered me fully trusting of my instructor and her team, which was also critical to my positive experience. I have so much more I could say about LA Progressive Shooters, but I will finish with two critical points for me: First, I chose LAPS very deliberately because I wanted to work with people committed to progressive values, and I found them here -- if you feel intimidated or politically repulsed by typical American macho, conservative gun culture, rest assured you will be at home with LAPS. It is the antithesis of all that. Second, I wish very much that I had done the Pistol 101 course before I ever picked up a gun. If you pay attention and follow instructions, you will be shooting 'holes in holes', as promised. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

To be completely honest, I started this class with a significant amount of fear regarding firearms. However, the patient, safe, and professional manner in which we were taught immediately put my mind at ease. Tom does an incredible job of prioritizing safety above all else, ensuring that every step is understood before moving forward. His teaching partner Val added such a wonderful, welcoming touch to the class. Her presence and guidance made the experience feel even more approachable and inclusive. Because of their combined efforts, I walked away with so much more confidence than I ever thought possible. If you have been hesitant or nervous about taking that first step, I cannot recommend this course enough--you will be in great hands.

I used to hate it when my husband would get his gun out to practice with his fake bullets or clean it or something, but now I'll do a couple of practices with him. The last class we had, the shooting workshop, was probably the best. It was a private range, and I shot an orange, which was so cool. I highly recommend this workshop. So now, while I wouldn't say I'd be "excited" about a day at the range, I'll at least go in somewhat knowing what I'm doing and have some fun, which is a huge difference from a few months ago, when I wouldn't even go at all. As an instructor and human, Dave is patient, kind, and funny. This kind of class can be intense- a firearms instructor needs to walk a fine line between being supportive and encouraging, but also making sure people know what they're doing so they don't hurt themselves. Dave is able to balance that well. He knows when to explain, when to show, and when to let the student try it out. He also seems to know when he can encourage a student a bit more to reach the next level of skill and when to back off. He definitely knows guns, but he knows people, too! Good combination in a firearms instructor.

Instead, they cut a huge center mid‑slide/barrel port, the exact opposite of what I asked for, permanently damaging the slide and barrel. Jack's attitude when I arrived only made it worse but at the time I had patience. I also paid $85 for a simple KS7 bolt removal. Instead of just removing the bolt, they returned my shotgun fully disassembled, forcing me to come back twice because I couldn't reassemble it. I didn't need a demonstration, I ONLY needed the bolt off my shotgun barrel. Also, he claimed the bolt was aftermarket when I JUST bought this KS7 NEW. Then I bought an ATN ThOR 6 Elite from Jack. Days later, ATNcorp.com dropped the price from $3,799 to $2,595. When I called to work out a solution, Red Rifle refused to help, claimed it was "too complicated," and demanded a 20% restocking fee. No flexibility, no negotiation just "policy." Jack even said neither he nor his wholesaler cared about the manufacturer's price drop. He refunded me $3,670 out of $4,329, five days after purchase, and the scope never even left his store. When I went in for the refund, I was respectful and even addressed Jack as "sir." He still got irritated because I asked twice whether he needed my card. Then he questioned why I was calling him "sir" and whether I "didn't want to do business anymore," as if my future spending determined how fairly he'd treat me. Instead of processing the refund normally, he said he had to issue a physical check, adding yet another delay to a situation he already mishandled. Jack has also made inappropriate comments in the past about which customers "drop money" in his shop and whether a friend I planned to refer would be "the type" to spend that much. I was ready to send someone in for a full .338 Lapua Rifle setup, now I wouldn't refer anyone here. Jack starts off friendly, joking, casual, talkative; but it doesn't last. His attitude flips fast, and the unprofessional side comes out, sometimes toward customers, sometimes toward his own employees when work is done incorrectly. Either way, it affects how problems are handled. After thousands spent here - and it could have been tens of thousands more, I expected better. Instead, I got sloppy work, poor communication, and a shop that refuses to stand behind its mistakes. I won't be returning, and I don't recommend trusting them with gunsmithing or high‑dollar purchases. Lastly, Jack told me to message him on Instagram if I had questions. Today, he complained in front of other customers while I was on the phone with him that I'm the only person who DMs him "so much," and claimed he "answered all my questions" before saying I wouldn't answer any of his. None of that was true. At this point, he just drains your time and patience.
