First day was in the office where topics were covered via PowerPoint presentation and Pete allowed us to do dry firing with airsoft guns. Second day was at the range for about 1.5hr where he taught us safe operation (i.e. grip, stance, aiming, accuracy, loading, unloading). Special remarks: Pete's dedication to gun safety and safe gun operation is apparent in the way he teaches. He is passionate about safety and an enthusiastic teacher which made the class fun. One of his most valuable strengths is that he was able to teach in a way that I could understand. (Side note: I am afraid of guns but took this class to combat that fear!) Pete was able to keep the class engaged, provided constructive feedback, and attention to detail. With his guidance and support, I was able to see a significant improvement in my grouping and decrease my fear of guns overall. Also, I made new friends in the class :) **I will be returning for other classes. Definitely recommend.

They have classroom spaces upstairs, which is where my instructor provided a lot of useful, practical information on my firearm: I assembled my AR on my own and learned quite a bit during that process, but he further showed me how to disassemble it completely (I purchased a complete upper so didn't know how the BCG fully operated) and best practices for using and cleaning it. Then we went down to lane 18 for hands-on training. Shot about 100 rounds -- my instructor helped me zero in both my iron sights and a red dot with magnifier I installed on my AR. Everyone there seemed to be expert firearms owners, which is a good thing vs. people who are unsafe and not following safe usage guidelines (I've heard other ranges in L.A. County allow newbies on the range without instruction -- not a good idea for obvious safety reasons). I also like that they have a lounge area where people who are not shooting can still look through thick glass/plexiglass and be safe doing it. Also, they provide a sink and soap so you can wash your hands afterwards (hint: you don't want gunpowder or other after-effects of shooting on your hands should law enforcement pull you over for another reason). You can rent a lane by the hour ($25/hour). No reservations so first come, first served. Will definitely be going back here for more practice. Recommended!

I later spoke with Paula who was friendly and helpful, she told me she was gathering enough people for a small beginners class for women, I asked if I could bring some friends and she said yes. We signed up and she provided all the information via email. I nor my friends had ever shot guns before so we were a little nervous. We got to the range and met Sayaka, who was badass! She assisted us to get geared up and shared about her expertise. There was about 6 people in our class, so it made it very intimate and they were able to assist us individually if needed! Paula and Sayaka went over various topics of safety. Already it made me feel at ease. Paula is so knowledgeable and quite hilarious she had be cracking up the entire class. Paula and Sayaka made a great team and they explained everything thoroughly. Such cool ladies! I was so inspired by them! We went over the movement of pulling the gun out from the holster over and over and over. But we didn't use the gun just learned the movements so we can get comfortable. Then we moved on to actually holding the gun. It was really helpful, because once we began shooting the adrenaline spiked! I got a lil scared and so did my friend but Paula and Sayaka were extremely patient and helpful. They showed us how to shot, where to shot, and how to reload. They gave me so much confidence that I could be badass like them! I will definitely be back and taking the next course. The three hours flew by! It was a lot of fun! We didn't know we were gonna get to shot in the shoothouse so that was a surprise and such a great time! Paula got some cool pics of us. 10/10 experience and I def recommend to women who have never shot before. It's definitely a necessity to protect ourselves and our loved ones!

I used to hate it when my husband would get his gun out to practice with his fake bullets or clean it or something, but now I'll do a couple of practices with him. So now, while I wouldn't say I'd be "excited" about a day at the range, I'll at least go in somewhat knowing what I'm doing and have some fun, which is a huge difference from a few months ago, when I wouldn't even go at all. As an instructor and human, Dave is patient, kind, and funny. This kind of class can be intense- a firearms instructor needs to walk a fine line between being supportive and encouraging, but also making sure people know what they're doing so they don't hurt themselves. Dave is able to balance that well. He knows when to explain, when to show, and when to let the student try it out. He also seems to know when he can encourage a student a bit more to reach the next level of skill and when to back off. He definitely knows guns, but he knows people, too! Good combination in a firearms instructor.

It's located on the west side of Village Plaza, along Vista Montana, between Chantal Skin Care & Mega Acupuncture & Herb. The purpose of mandatory live scan fingerprinting is to ensure the safety of students by conducting thorough, state-verified criminal background checks, fulfilling CA legal requirements for people working with minors to prevent child abuse & foster trust with parents & the community. SBCS asked me to come in on a Friday afternoon for the live scan after the school year ended; not sure if they made an appointment prior but I was able to walk-in. The office is small with a couple of chairs in the waiting area, & no one was there except for me; even so, it took a few minutes for them to call me in to get my fingerprints after I completed the paperwork & showed my CA driver's license. I went to the restroom to wash my hands, then I was given Corn Huskers Heavy Duty Oil-Free Hand Treatment Lotion on my fingers, & placed each finger on the scanner that captures high-resolution images of my prints. I had to re-do my thumbs a few times, & my index finger a couple of times, adding more corn huskers lotion. Chris had to squish my thumbs, rolled it a few times because they didn't read well. It felt awkward due to my hand positioning & I wanted to adjust my position to be more comfortable, but couldn't/didn't since it may shift during scanning. I explained to him that my hands are usually dry & cracked from overwashing; I later learn that this may strip the natural oils & cause rejected prints. The lotion is used in live scan to moisturize dry skin & enhance the print quality, making faint/worn fingerprints more legible. The whole process took less than 15 minutes, & I was done & out. Once fingerprints are captured, they're transmitted electronically to the CA Department of Justices (DOJ), & the agency (my son's Chinese school) will receive the results directly in a few days. I don't know the cost since SBCS was covering the live scan. The process was quick & easy, though general pleasantries exchanged would be nice & polite. Not sure if appointments are required but advisable in case you're on a time constraint. If you're in need of live scan services, I recommend #1 All Safe & Secure Live Scan Fingerprint.

Apparently, members are allowed to skip to the front of the line -- but no one tells you that when you check in. The receptionist simply directs everyone to stand in line without explaining the membership priority. Watching people walk straight to the front while you've been waiting a long time is pretty frustrating, especially when that policy isn't clearly communicated upfront. This place really needs better organization and customer service. Clear communication would make a huge difference. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend coming here.

They took their time to be with her and help her. She left very capable of managing an arm if she ever needs to. She had a blast and it was another level of empowerment for her. My other friend is a great shooter. He decided to still take the safety course because we always learn something new. He had a blast too and enjoyed the experience. We will definitely be coming back because I need more practice and we all know that here in California it's difficult for me as a female to get into the range. I've attended classes from various famous instructors and schools, from Oregon to Massachusetts,…read morefrom Illinois down to Texas, and I found the classes offered by Tactical Firearms Training Team (TFTT) to be the most challenging I've ever taken. Over a decade ago, I took a week off from work to attend TFTT's Tactical Handgun series of courses, which consisted of four blocks: Tactical Handgun 1 (one-day), Tactical Handgun 2 (one-day), Tactical Handgun 3 (two-day), and Tactical Handgun 4 (two-day). Imagine to my surprise that, while attending Tactical Handgun 1, there would be a written test during Tactical Handgun 2 (covering the fundamental techniques learned during Tactical Handgun 1 and 2) and a qualification course of fire at the end of each class with the caveat that if a student failed to qualify, he/she would not be allowed to progress to the next class. Talk about turning up the heat! I thought I was back in the Marine Corps, but that sentiment is of no surprise since Max Joseph and many of his training cadre are Marines. As the week progressed, I noticed an approximate 50% drop-out rate for each class. We started with 10 students in Tactical Handgun 1, ended up with 5 students in Tactical Handgun 2, whittled down to 3 in Tactical Handgun 3, and finally me, the "last man standing" from the original 10 (and a remediated student from a class taken the previous year) in Tactical Handgun 4. The written test wasn't too difficult as the instructors spoon-feed you the information so, by the time the test comes around, you're chomping at the bit to regurgitate the knowledge onto paper! The qualification courses, however, were very challenging and were the obvious cause for many students failing to move up through the training evolution. In the end, I walked away from TFTT's Tactical Handgun course more informed and with a sense of achievement! BLUF: if you are willing to push yourself out of your comfort zone and to the next level, attend a TFTT class.

What really sets Roger apart is his depth of experience. His background in the military and as a shooting coach is obvious in the way he teaches. He explains things clearly, gives real world context, and focuses on building safe habits and confidence. You can tell he has spent years training others and knows exactly how to communicate effectively. The simulator training was one of the most valuable parts. It puts you in realistic situations and forces you to think through decisions, not just focus on shooting. It made the class much more engaging and practical. Roger also made the environment welcoming and comfortable and even provided snacks and refreshments during the class. Overall he is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely cares about his students. I highly recommend Roger and Basic Gun Safety to anyone pursuing their CCW. I left feeling much more confident, informed, and prepared.

I learned things I never even thought about or considered. Roger is very patient and he answered all questions intelligently and was very professional in his responses. I initially chose Basic Gun Safety because Roger explained that I didn't have to wait for LASD to Give me permission to take this course, that if for some reason, my CCW renewal was he denied, I would get a full refund. I highly recommend Roger Harvey at Basic Gun Safety for CCW training. I'll come back when it's time to once again renew myCCW.
