I had American River come out for a precontruction meeting. My project was large house with heated pool bbq and fire pit. They helped me figure out best way to set up system. installation Of tank and service hook up was awesome. And when my concrete guys drove a stake through on of the lines, they were right there to fix it. I would highly recommend them. read more

Super disappointed in this company. I will never give them my business again. I have had many problems with them. In the past they lied, saying they weren't delivering in my area until the following week, and then I saw them out in my area. I took photos and then they called saying, actually they were in the area. Hmmm. This time, they took payment with my credit card over the phone and were supposed to deliver propane the next day, however they had the wrong exp. date written down, so they didn't deliver, even after we called back and gave them the right number. Now they say we need to wait another week or pay $120. I have kids and need propane to cook and shower, ect. It is the middle of winter. How can you treat loyal customers that way?! I have been using their services for the past 15 years. I can't wait to support a company that actually cares for customers. My dad will not be using their services again either. When I called and spoke with an employee before having my propane tank filled for the first time, I was given a dollar amount quote based on the current levels & capacity of my tank. Upon having it filled, my bill was more than DOUBLE the quoted amount. I immediately called, and was abruptly told I'd misunderstood that number entirely. Ok... I got off the phone in shock, because now several of my utility bills could not be paid due to the surprise amount charged by American River Gas. After gathering myself and my receipt, I realized the information the employee had given me as to my charge still didn't make sense, and I called back. After some confusion and reviewing the initial notes from our first conversation, the employee agreed that she had quoted me a certain amount, and that she would be refunding me for the difference later in the day/the next day to the card information I had provided initially. A week and a half went by, and no refund came. I called in and spoke to a different employee, who verified she knew I was to be refunded because of a new customer discount/quote/me being overcharged. She said she would pass it along. A few days later, still no refund. This time I sent an email so my request would be in written form. I got a call back from the owner, who wasn't up to speed on the previous conversations and was not under the impression I should be receiving any refund, and was really just setting out to prove me wrong from the get-go. We ended up on a 3-way conversation with the employee, to which she denied giving me a quote, and denied telling me that I'd be receiving a refund even though this is something we explicitly clarified before getting off the phone on January 20th. She even said (in front of her boss) she'd called me and left me a voicemail that I hadn't responded to, which caught me off guard at the moment because I was unaware of a voicemail... but upon checking my phone after that 3-way call, saw that she had in fact NOT reached out by phone or left a voicemail, and was being dishonest in that statement as well. The biggest customer service move they could manage was refunding me the difference in cost per unit of propane from the time I made my appointment, to the cost at the time that they were able to deliver the propane. It was $9 and TWO WEEKS after I was told I'd be refunded in the first place, and obviously doesn't put a dent in the HUNDREDS I was charged by complete surprise. Pretty horrifying to be misled like that by an employee and have the owner of the company take zero accountability for it while charging me twice the quoted amount. The owner DID offer to have propane sucked out of the tank so the cost would be what I wanted. Kind, right? If I wasn't a tenant on a property with an American River Gas propane tank, I'd definitely do business with someone else. Even if I was charged the regular price for the propane - the fact that I was QUOTED an amount, and told that I'd be refunded based on that quote - to have the employee ignore it entirely for over 2 weeks and then completely deny it on a three way call with the business owner was a horrible experience. Absolutely don't recommend. read more

I'm pretty surprised to see that this company gets such high reviews. Their accounting department hasn't been updated since the 90's and has absolutely no tracking nor any idea of what's going on, and I continue to have issues with them. Yes they are very nice and respectful people, which are wonderful qualities. I haven't given up yet, but business is business, get your accounting up to speed people it's 2017. read more

I was recommended this company by friends and now I know why. They are professional, personal, caring and do EXCELLENT work. They went above and beyond and even referred me to an excellent plumber when I ended up having a gas leak inside the house and that plumber worked together with the technician to get my leak fixed by the time I came home from work that day, AND filled my tank up with gas. Their prices are fair, better than most places but what i like most is that I feel like I have a gas company that is honest, will do what they say and keep me safe. This company is as good as it gets! I have used American River Gas for years and I am on a revolving automatic fill up. Recently I called in the late afternoon to see when my next fill date was because we put our BBQ tanks out and they fill them when they come for our house propane fill up. The nice gal on the phone apologized and said we had recently had our tank filled so we weren't scheduled for about another 5 weeks. I said no problem, I would send my husband to fill them. I left to run some errands. I came home to find my tanks had been filled while I was gone!! If that isn't the absolute best customer service I don't know what is! American River Gas ROCKS!!! Excellent customer service and friendly drivers. I inherited their tank 26 years ago and have never had a problem running out of gas with their monthly refills. Recently inquired about getting the old tank cleaned and possibly painted. Spoke to Bobby, Service Manager, who was very personable and willing to provide that service, whenever he might be in my area on some other calls. Lo and behold, I got a call the next day, saying he could come out with a pressure washer and new cover and see if I wanted more work done. The tank looks SO much better! I don't yelp much anymore, but had to log back in for these guys. Prompt, accurate and very pleasant to work with over the 4 years I've been ordering propane from them. The couple of times I've let the gas get really low, they've added me to the back of the route that day to make sure I've got fuel.
