I originally had a positive experience with California Solar Electric during my 10.12 kW solar and Powerwall 3 installation last year. Unfortunately, their post-install customer support and business ethics are nonexistent. I referred a friend who completed their installation months ago. I was explicitly promised a $500 referral bonus for this. After months of waiting, I tried following up multiple times privately to give them a chance to make it right, but I am now being completely ignored. It's a shame because I have several neighbors here in Fountain Valley who are currently shopping around for solar and battery storage. I was planning to refer them here, but I cannot recommend a company that fails to honor its own written agreements and ducks communication. We went with Enphase even though it was a bit more expensive. If we had a Cybertruck then Tesla all the way because of the bidirectional charging. The other advantage is that they are also a roofing company so it was all quite seamless. We were able to combine the install with replacement of the dormer vents with flat fire-resistant ones so now we are not as concerned with fire embers. Their work was impeccable throughout and the post install service is exceptional. For instance we initially missed that the water heater was not included in the backup circuits. They sent a small crew back to take care of that at no additional cost. Several months later we realized that the wall oven which we rarely used is no longer powered. They sent someone to take care of that as well. So far the system is functioning well. I was a little surprised I found out that the production calculation (120% of last year's use) is misleading. On a sunny day, by noon our batteries are full and the power generated for the rest of the day goes to the grid and is essentially wasted here in California. When I am home I can minimize this waste by charging my electric car which covers my day to day driving as it turns out. I manage it by using the Enlighten app's live status. I suppose I could have bought more batteries but I already own extra batteries. It's in the car.

They do a lot via text, which I liked, but it turned out not at all useful. I would text for updates, and hear nothing back. I would call to find out my contact was out of the office, on vacation, or any number of excuses. This went on for many weeks. I did not know the date for installation until a delivery of equipment showed up at my house unannounced. It was a good thing I happened to be home that day! I thought the installation itself had gone well. They installed the system in two days and everything looked great. Then, I had to wait for the meter collar to be installed. I was told it was going to be performed by their technician. Turns out it has to be done by SCE and that had not been scheduled. After I called again, SCE was finally notified. SCE arrived several days later to discover the cables were too short to install the meter. Now I have wait again for OC solar to come out again and fix this issue and wait again for SCE to finally install the meter so that I can use my new system. I hope the system works.

Being abandoned was an issue, as RMA processing for SolarEdge requires an installer to process it. Unbeknownst to the previous owners of my property, the inverter was completely shot and did not have monitoring capability. They processed the RMA for my SolarEdge inverter, installed it once it was here, and also gave me access to SolarEdge monitoring once that was completed. The price was more than fair to do all of the following. They also had great communication throughout the whole process. Highly recommended!
