This was the MOST RACIST LIQUOR STORE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO!!!!!!!! I walked into the store, and all of the staff standing behind the counter refused to greet me. When it was time for me to check out all of the men behind the counter stared at me with asking "Did I find everything okay" or "Did I need anything else. Horrific customer service. I decided to write this review because the people that work here have always been so helpful. I don't tend to frequent liquor stores so when I go in it's to find something I need in a recipe or to pick up wine as a gift. I was in earlier in the week and needed a suggestion on a decent wine, the price wasn't a huge factor. Rather then trying to sell me an expensive wine just because it was expensive, the clerk suggested a wine that was good and reasonably priced and had a cool label if you're into labels. In addition their prices are reasonable and the store is clean. read more

Nice little liquor store located in downtown St. Pete. I went in pretty late, and the store was clean, well-stocked, and there were quite a few gentlemen working, all offering help in locating an item, or in purchasing a certain select bottle. Nice selection of beer, a pretty wide selection of wine, and a standard selection of the usual liquor. Nothing overly fancy here, folks, just a good store offering up a nice selection of spirits to keep you happy, all at a pretty decent price. Wouldn't go out of my way to shop here, but definitely a go-to if you're in the downtown area and need a fix, especially after a long night of drinking at local bars and you need a little something to keep the party going at your place. I don't have a whole lot to say...I mean, it's a liquor store...go in, get the booze of your choice, pay up...leave - usual process LOL. BUT...I will add that I was super excited that they carried Jam Jar wine! If you enjoy a nice, smooth red wine with the perfect hint of sweetness...Jam Jar is a must try. It's not found in all liquor stores so four stars to them for having it! Some other members of the bridal party discovered some slim, sort of matte black colored flasks for like 3 bucks. My guess is that they found a pretty good bargain considering their level of excitement at the cash register LOL. One other thing that was different from what I've seen at other liquor stores I've visited...they actually sell the "plastic red cups" for 10 cents each. Ha! Prices are reasonable, clerk/manager were really cool and helpful. No complaints here! read more

Being transplants from Cali, we were surprised that grocery stores do not sell liquor. Luckily, our neighborhood alcohol venue is in the same complex as our grocery store. We were impressed with the range of brands the store carries! The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We will be frequent fliers for sure. read more

Every SINGLE time I go in here the staff is very cordial, helpful and FRIENDLY - across the board with every one of them. They always have helpful suggestions and you get the distinct impression that they genuinely want to help you! They have an EXCELLENT selection of wines and the lady that heads up that dept. is VERY knowledgeable w/o being stuffy or talking over my head or being condescending. These are all NICE people who seem to enjoy working there and the selection of spirits is all that I could hope for! read more

Posted hours indicate a 9pm closing on Monday nights. Last night at 8:53, the door was locked. Not a big deal, but as I glanced at the hours a surly clerk near the door said in a rather mean tone, "It doesn't matter anyway. GOODBYE!" Really? That's how you do business? Upon visiting American Spirits for, um, scientific testing purposes a handful of additional times, I am saddened to report that the Cigar City stock there has taken a significant downturn. Upon questioning a purposeful-looking man stumping around the main room, I was treated to a long harangue about how CCB apparently murders kittens or something to make their beer and how the head brewer pulverized the speaker's pet skink (named "Petey McCreeper," if I recall correctly) with his spike-studded monster truck--this last being delivered in a truly mournful tone of voice and accompanied by many tears. I doubt that any of that is strictly true, but I do know that the Cigar City selections had been cut down to approximately Publix-level. C'est la vie, mon cherie, I shall brave Shep's and their mysterious "deli counter" once more. read more

American Spirits is just down the street from me. I've needed liquor on one occasion and they were helpful and friendly. The prices are comparable with other stores. The staff is helpful and friendly. I needed champagne for a celebration and I bought it by the case. They threw in an extra brut. Cheers, American Spirits! read more

Great shop for discovering. You can close your eyes and grab anything and know it will be good because the owners only carry what they know is empirically GOOD. They will also special order just about anything for you if you don't see your favorite labels on the shelf. read more
