Today (7/11/26) at 9:08am I speak to a lady that tells me "my car will arrive that's being towed by them in an hour and 10 mins as long as there is no traffic." Well 11:33am comes and nothing. So I call her to see what is going on. She tells me "sorry they got the wrong car so have to get someone to get your car. And I will call you back to let you know an eta." Welllllllll it's now 3:28pm and no call from them. I had to call them. She says "he'll be there in 30 minutes." I ask why did no one call me back like first stated and she says "sorry yes you should have been called back." I told her "if he's not here in 30 minutes sorry I have to leave I've been waiting since 10:15am!" Finally the dude shows up at 4:15pm. I do not recommend as they do not care about your time or care to communicate with you. The driver was nice, but the older dispatch lady should be communicating with its customers. Had she called me back like she stated she would and just say hey it won't arrive until after 4 this review would be completely opposite. I do not recommend. read more

I blew a CV axle around 11 PM near the outlets in Lenwood (Barstow, CA) while making a U-turn after grabbing gas and food. My car was stuck in the far-right lane and wouldn't move forward or backward--I initially thought it was a transmission failure. I called AAA and was fortunate to have James Floyd from American Towing Barstow arrive within 20 minutes. I was exhausted and flustered, having been on the road for hours driving back home to Fountain Valley, CA from Bryce Canyon in Utah. James was not only prompt and professional but also incredibly knowledgeable. He patiently walked me through what might be wrong and explained several options: towing the car all the way home, taking it to a trusted mechanic in Hesperia, or dropping it off at a local Midas. Given the late hour, I decided to have it towed across the street to a Holiday Inn so I could rest and handle it in the morning. Before heading off for the night, James went above and beyond. He offered to take another look at my car and, upon closer inspection, correctly diagnosed the issue as a broken CV axle--not the transmission like I feared. That moment brought huge relief--what could have been a several-thousand-dollar repair turned out to be a much more manageable one. What impressed me most was that James didn't have to double-check. He chose to go the extra mile, and because of that, I slept easier that night. Even more surprisingly, when I called for a tow the next morning, James was the one who came back to help me again and got my car safely to the Midas shop. If you're ever in a bind around Barstow, I highly recommend American Towing--and especially James Floyd. He was kind, professional, and genuinely cared. Was stranded just South of Baker due to my Camper / trailer blowing out a wheel bearing. They were the only company that was able to tow it with a flat bed trailer. Having said that, the cost was at their free will, and yes I do feel taken advantage of. The driver had a decent attitude, but the costs were by the hour for my tow and I was never given an estimate for the tow. It was towed back to Barstow to their yard where they tried to use a better equipped trailer to tow me the rest of the way home (another 100 miles), to no avail. At that point I had no choice but to leave it and come back the next day to fix it myself. I did ask how much it would cost with them, since he insisted to do the job the next day, and he said at least $1k. At that point I was told what my tow bill was, even with AAA Premier. They wanted $430 in overages for the 40 mile tow. And to put the Big cherry on top, I was penalized with an overnight storage fee since they couldn't complete the tow and I would come back the next day. I give 1 extra star just for having a decent driver, but I couldn't give more because I had a "surprise bill" and a "Forced" storage fee. It was late at night and I had to get my kids home so no choice but to pay whatever they wanted. I wouldn't recommend this company if you're price conscious, but if you don't mind whatever $$$$ then go for it! read more

I thought my car was going to scrape the ground but he did his thing very professionally and on the first try (loading and unloading). He was very friendly and worked fast. Our truck 200 f350 and a small trailer with a couch on it broke down 10 miles out of Barstow needing to be towed 50 miles to home. we live 1 hour from Barstow 45 min from where we were at Not a big deal. We have AAA premium RV 200 mile. So when they were assigned by AAA they said that the truck was covered but the trailer was only covered for $500 of the tow. I asked them witch I already knew the answer if they were going to put the truck on the flatbed and tow the trailer with the same truck on the wheel lift they said yes but it is 2 separate tows. and the trailer was going to be $1300. When i asked why they said that it would be for * hours at 165 an hour so minus the $500 from AAA it would be $800 for the trailer. I told them that that was insane as the same truck that was hauling the truck was going to haul the trailer at the same time and the $500 from AAA should more than cover it. they said no it is still 2 separate tows even though it was on the same truck going to the same place. It would only have taken 10 extra min to pull the trailer to so we canceled and had another company out of Lucerne for less then $500 do both. American towing was trying to gouge us when we were stranded don't let them do it to you! read more

I highly recommend these folks. My pickup/with my U-Haul trailer attached seized up as soon as I got to Barstow. I called American towing and explained I had been broke down with my 81 year old mom and her cat for hours in the heat of the day. Eva my dispatcher got right on it and before I was off the phone, Eduardo was pulling his flatbed behind me, that fast. He had been on his way home and came back to help my family. We got my mom and cat in his air conditioned truck, gave her cold water. Then he pulled my tundra on his flatbed, attached U-Haul to his hitch. We dropped the trailer in their secure yard, took tundra to the Toyota service dept and then took us to our motel. I can't thank both of them enough for their response time and the extra effort Eduardo put in for us. They charged me a good price and provided an exceptional service. I would recommend this business highly and we were left feeling like they cared for us and our safety. We were stuck out in Trona Pinnacles in one of the loose dirt roads trying to find the exit. () When 2 excellent Samaritans helped us schedule a towing(Because we had no signal), but that was due for the next day because it was late. It was late in the day because we were directed to multiple different numbers with our rental van roadside assistance. The next day around 9-10am Armando arrived to the scene to help us. He was very nice & caring throughout the whole interaction and helped us get out there asap! (‿) He was a man on a mission and that mission was to rescue people like us that came before! Our motorhome was towed to AMERICAN TOWING with a leaking water pump. Towing was quoted at $1237.00 from Baker Ca. To Barstow shop on Main st. Before being towed And finding out information on the coach and motor etc. Cris quoted me $1750.00 for the repairs. The following day the repairs were made by a trainee supervised by Cris. The trainee Did an excellent job changing out the water pump.. The bill for towing was exactly $1237.00.. However the bill for the repairs came to $2197.00, about $450 more than quoted. I asked Cris how long it would have taken him to do the job. He said "4 maybe 5 hrs, I was charged for 6 hrs @ $200 per hr.. Seemed like was paying 1 or 2 extra hours labor for training. I was also charged $170.00 for coolant. That should have been included in the original estimate as the problem was a leaking water pump. The charge for the belts I understand. I've owned an auto repair shop for over 30 years. When we give an estimate and it goes over by more than 10%, our bad and we absorb the difference. If a proper estimate isn't given beforehand, I t's Not the customer's fault. read more

This company kept my motorhome for two weeks. It was having intermittent power problems. The shop foreman, David, told me on many occasions that he was "100%" sure he could fix the problem. They charged me $15,000 for a repair they did not make. After it was "100%" repaired, I drove the motorhome 120 miles and the power problem came back. It would go no faster than 5 MPH. Therefore, I could not drive it back to the shop. DO NOT go to this company for diesel repairs. They are incompetent liars and charge way too much. read more

I missed the exit for the last supercharging station and instead of turning around, i decided to push my luck with my Tesla battery and I ended up shutting down just 6 miles before the next charging station. requested roadside assistance via my Tesla app and they connected me with American Towing. Brandon was my hero. He showed up 60 min after I got a message that I'd have to wait 120 min. Teslas are tricky but he was able to figure everything out. He drove me and my dog to the nearest charging station and jump started my battery, and made sure we were good to go. He was very respectful and professional.
