We had them install a radon mitigation system. The radon mitigation system ended up disconnecting our sump pump. They came out once rectify the situation, but we still don't know if the sump pump works, and now the radon mitigation system is not even connected or sealed. Despite multiple calls, they fail return a call or respond to emails. Stay far away from this business. I recommend anyone but American Waterworks for radon mitigation, or any type of work that may require follow up care. read more

Our basement had flooded on and off for 5 years, so we decided it was time to replace the existing partial perimeter drain tile system with a complete perimeter system. We got several quotes and ultimately chose American Waterworks based on a recommendation from a family friend. Their estimate was in line with others we received who also offered transferrable lifetime warranties. I wish I'd gone with another company. First hiccup was that they didn't bring anywhere near enough pipe to move the discharge line to the location we had discussed. A phone call to the sales rep resolved that the day the work was being done. Second hiccup we discovered was that they had cut stair supports from our basement floor, left them dangling from the stairs, and put in an access point for the system under the stairs so we couldn't rebuild the supports ourselves. Kenny came out and did rebuild the cut part of the supports and moved the access point. Third hiccup was that they had left our old discharge pipe connected through the house, even though they'd cracked it, so water was leaking immediately outside the house. Kenny also fixed this. Fourth hiccup... they're coming for the annual maintenance check next month and we've just turned on our sprinklers, only to discover that they severed our irrigation line. Based on the fact that they buried the discharge line right on top of it, there's no way they didn't know they'd cut it. We cannot fix this ourselves as we can't access the entirety of the damage with their discharge line being where it is. No one works on the weekends to report the issue so I left two voicemails on Saturday. The first when I suspected they'd damaged the line and the second after I dug to investigate. I'll update my review when they've fixed the damage they caused. We're hoping for a timely repair as the city is digging up our boulevard this week and we can't locate the final sprinkler head due to the lack of water pressure in our sprinkler line. A "supervisor" came and said that they couldn't lift the sidewalk to match the other walk. Ended up having to put pavers on sidewalk so that we could take care of the issue so money was wasted for what they did. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I hired them to install wall anchors in one wall in my basement. It was a nightmare. The installation crew installed the wall anchors incorrectly and they refused to fix them. I noticed that the wall anchors were installed 3 to 6 inches in the wrong spots according to the plans and engineering report. I mentioned this to the crew leader and he told me quote "they usually just install them about chest high." (a very exact measurement) When I mentioned the plans for the job and engineering report he said quote "I haven't even seen these." They installed them without consulting any plans, engineering report or even measuring or snapping a chalk line. I had the city inspectors come out. They took the measurements and forced american waterworks to have the current locations reviewed by an engineer to ensure that they are structurally ok. Of course the engineering company, rice engineers, who american more than likely spends hundreds of thousands of dollars a year with signed off on it. This being in spite of the fact that the anchors are not installed within the acceptable limits of the manufacturer, Geo-Lock. When I tried to address these issues with upper management, I got a different person every time and was treated very rudely with the attitude pay or else. They would not admit any fault at all and refused to move the wall anchors to the proper location. The crew left a huge muddy mess and did very little cleanup. It took my us 4 hours to clean up their mess. My basement is unfinished. Imagine what they would do to a finished basement. I am a local contractor and have been in business in the local area for more than 20 years. I have never seen a less professional company. I will never hire them again and will vociferously try to convince every contractor, real estate agent or anyone else I know to not hire them. Do not be fooled by the positive reviews. We had our basement redone a few years ago. They took real good care of trying to keep the dust and everything away from the rest of the basement when they were cutting in the concrete. Never had a problem since we've had our system put in. Best money we've ever spent. He tired selling me a 15k drainage unit with spending less then 5 minutes in my basement. The tech named Ryan tried telling me I had above 20% moisture in my dry wall up to 2 ft and higher in my basement, tired telling me I had mold and I needed to install a 15k drainage unit right away. I had a friend come out and he used 3 different moisture meters, checking the same spot where Ryan claimed "my walls were full of water". My friends 3 moisture meters said less then 10% in a small area where water has been getting in and the rest of the basement less then 1% where Ryan claimed i had over 20%. I called and asked for an explanation and all they could tell me is that there meter was not broken and that they would still be happy to do the job. read more

My husband could have did a better Job designing the water issue in the basement! He is a farmer and did not have the time to do it. so we decided to hire a company we searched and found American water works. They had sent out an engineer he took a look at the basement designed his plan. We went with it but here we are now and we are still having issues with water in the basement. The pumps they put in always trip the circuit breaker and the breaker is its own deal from everything else. so we have our main breaker and the separate break for the pumps. They claim the pumps are not at fault and cannot figure out why they trip they looked at the specs and they should not trip but they do. They do not want to believe anything is the fault of the design but then they cannot figure out the other issues as to why the basement is it still getting water in it. The worst part is after paying a pretty penny for the system that is defective in order to try to fix the mistake they expect to be paid more money. Let's start from the beginning. I called for an estimate, and they responded within 1 week. The "sales man", whom we'll call "Michel", labeled himself a "design specialist", came out to measure up and estimate the work. He was very kind and fast, missing several flaws that had to be pointed out. Confident about the work I needed the price felt high but manageable. We agreed on a plan of action and a down payment was made, date set, and i felt good about the meeting. Anxious about the 3 month waiting time, 5 days later i received a call asking if the work could be done that day! Amazed I could only reply YES! (this is where things turned) I was at work so i scrambled as best I could to meet the foreman around noon lunch hour and clear the driveway, however, before i could reach the house, the foreman, whom we'll call "Dylan", called me 2 blocks away to tell me they cannot do the job. Very confused, I told him I was around the corner and asked him to wait for me. He did. Upon arrival, Dylan explained in detail the reasons for his concerns and pointed out the issues with the work in front of them, I asked questions and answers were given, Dylan said they did not want to do the job, so they left. I, same day, went to retrieve the 20% deposit which they required to set the work date. This took an hour. The receptionist ,who's name escapes me, was very kind and didi her best to help me. I asked for someone in charge to talk to, under the confusion of who was in charge, no body came out, they just simply used the receptionist to they're full advantage and made the poor woman run back and forth with messages like "We haven't talked to the foreman yet", and "We will close out the job and send a check in the mail tomorrow". Accepting non of this, I kindly said to this over worked receptionist, (sorry i forgot your name), "this is unacceptable, I would feel better if the check was in hand as soon as possible". She then told me it was company policy to wait 7-10 business days for a refund. I am sure she was told this, I still not being fooled simply replied " I did not sign your policy, I signed a work agreement, one they're foreman breeched by walking off the job, there is no policy." This poor woman then walked bak to whom ever and someone finally came forward! Disappointed, a man walked up, we'll call him "Kurt", introduced himself as the production supervisor. Kurt was present when Dylan explained the job and its issues. Kurt then asked "what wasn't clear about what was said earlier? I replied "Nothing, you were crystal." Kurt, "then you're just here for the deposit?" One hour later to get to this point! I got the deposit back and left with a "Have a nice day". The money was right, half a star, the design specialist was fast and not so accurate, half a star, the service was fast but then it wasn't, in fact there was no rebuttal to the estimate given just complaints about how many obstacles there were without any positive solutions to work though them, no suggestions, re-estimates on work for these obstacles, just how it was going to "cost too much" (Dylan) to add insult to injury, and then send out the super who was there and could have told them to give me my money, to scare me off. Minus 2 stars. in conclusion Neg 1 star total for this company. Look else where, you will find more knowledgeable individuals with better communication skills between sales and service. American Waterworks tried to sell my son and his fiancé an unnecessary $10K basement water abatement system after telling them they had significant water problems in their basement. After signing a contact and putting down $1K deposit they removed all the paneling, insulation and carpet from the basement only to find no evidence of any water problems (no staining, no mildew or mold) They contacted an unbiased professional home inspector who inspected the basement and confirmed that they didn't need a water abatement system, but should install a sump pump since they have water in their sump basket. American Waterworks would not refund their deposit and quoted them almost $4000 to install a sump pump and discharge line which is excessive. In my opinio, this company took advantage of a young couple who were new homeowners. Buyer beware of these high pressure salesmen. read more

If I could give this company a negative rating I would. American Waterworks ended up selling us a system to waterproof our basement, egress window and foundation lift, it would of cost us 50K, however since the waterproofing wasn't needed as we have NO standing water in the basement, it was a waste. The sump pump basket installed was one with holes, meaning that it will never turn on, unless I have a pipe burst. The salesman assured us that one the holes were drilled water would be coming out, and didn't. We didn't need the waterproofing we only needed basement windows as we found out later, that they leaked. While the crew was out digging for the egress window, and they broke our water main. We were on borrowed water for a week, because American Waterworks didn't want to pay to have this fixed, and was sure that the city should of covered it. We were lied too about when this was getting fixed, and due to permits, etc. We only ended getting the waterproofing done as we stopped the rest of the project due to the irresponsibility of the crew, American Waterworks salesman, and their management team. Also, we had everything away from the foundation walls, and we had one of our appliances in a spot, they ended up moving it and damaging it, even after they were told if anything is in the way, let us know and WE will move it. My experience with American Waterworks was very mixed. I had the owners out to bid the project twice and they were wonderful. Timely with responses and a delivered a competitive price. It was when the work was being performed I ran into several problems. There was lack of communication between the leadership and the people doing the work which lead to many problems that could have easily been avoided. Things like placing support beams in areas we had not talked about or agreed upon which lead to having to redo over a days worth of work, not laying down any sort of protective covering for the floors (mud was trekked all through my house), and finally not fulfilling their guarantee to haul busted cement offsite. Instead the buried it back in the hole they dug with huge chunks sticking out everywhere that I will have to dig out in the spring. Overall, the work met my needs but the process in getting there was terrible and a great hassle. Because of that, I would probably look elsewhere if I needed to do a project like this again. read more

I live in North Minneapolis and the folks from Rochester made the trip to install their system about 15 years ago and I've never looked back. I'm compelled to write because I bless these folks every time I hear the reassuring gurgle of water being pumped out of my basement and I'm hearing it much more often this year! The best and most unique feature of their system is that the drain pips is underground so no issues with falling off, mowing etc. Yes, it's expensive, but you'd probably spend the same amount a few hundred at a time with gutters, landscaping, etc. and as water finds a new way in. What's great about this is it doesn't matter how the water gets in - it just goes out. You'll wish you had done it in the first place! read more
