I talked to several people some gave over inflated estimates (I am a building consultant having worked with contractors for the last 38 years) I did have some language difficulties and then I chanced upon a bay area directory that gave reviews and a certification of sorts for the top crafts people in the bay area. This directory is called Bay Area Diamond Certified. It is a directory of the best crafts people in the bay area who have been given excellent reviews by their customers. I believe that having an A rating in the better business bureau may also be a qualification. The only tile installer that had apparently passed their stringent examination was Dimensions in Tile and Marble, owner being Kenny Morrell. I had an extreme scheduling problem with me trying to get the whole bathroom remodeled while my wife was in australia visiting her mom. I had some carpentering and plumbing problems, and as a result, Kenny put in several 14 hour days to make sure the job was completed before my wife got back. I was more than surprised because I had never seen anyone go to such extremes to be as meticulous and dedicated in their craft. He did all hand crafted mortar beds, properly sloped for the shower drain, properly water tested for not leaking. I must say that I never saw so many grout joints as the mosaic 3/4" tile that I had chosen. The joints and tile layout were flawless and I must say that the beautiful backsplash that he installed in my kitchen were just as expertly installed. I don't think that…read morethey did a good job and two years later things are looking worse...cracking grout and uneven levels of grout between the marble tiles that they laid. The crew that came was loud and noisy and it was unclear when Kenny was not there who was in charge. One day a guy who had taken the previous day off bragged that he had had 15 beers and 12 tequila shots on his day off...this didn't make me too happy. I asked Kenny to be sure that he didn't damage the wall paper, but it was damaged so I had to buy additional glass tile to cover the damage which I paid for since he only did the labor for free....They tried to get me to accept a crudely done backsplash which I wouldn't so they had to redo it. I was included in the Silver Star rating review even though I said that I would never use them or recommend them because I said the Kenny the owner was a nice guy. I am more and more unhappy as I look at how well (NOT) their $10,000 tile job has aged!

He came by as agreed on July 22nd and I explained what I was trying to do. He started throwing out numbers that seemed reasonable enough and he said that he was a landscaper and could help with the rest of the project if I was interested. I said yes, I explained to him all of the supplies that I had, and he stated that he would call me the next day after pricing out additional material costs. I get a call from Eduardo the next day with the price that was to include materials and we agreed and he was to start two days later. Eduardo faked on me twice, and didn't show up on the days he was supposed to. I should have taken it as a red flag but I didn't. He apologizes profusely and I agree to give one last shot. The project got started on August 3rd. Eduardo and his two-man crew show up but as soon as he arrives he demands 50% of the project fee in cash. We go back and forth over finances and I try to text everything to him so we have everything in writing but he calls back every time I send a text. We agree on the down payment amount and the crew gets started. The project is going well until Eduardo starts demanding more money than initially agreed upon. He stated the price that he gave me was for labor only and that I needed to pay for all materials. I told him that's not what was agreed and again we went back and forth over it. I was at my wits end and told him that we didn't need to work together. He apologizes and said we were good. I told him to send everything he is going to do in a text but he refuses. I should have just parted ways after so many issues but stupid me, I didn't. Upon installation day of the gopher wire and weed barrier, I knew we were in big trouble. He and his crew didn't nail down or staple the weed barrier, so when you walk on it waves were created and it had large air lumps everywhere. I explained the issue and he said that it will flatten out on its own. I explain the impossibility of that logic and he said that if I didn't like his work he will grab his stuff and go. I said that is fine. The next day he arrives and he changes his tune and says he would fix it. They proceed to take everything up and redo it properly and I thought we were on the right road until the next day when it was time to install the landscape bender board. They could not get it straight or even. The board was above the concrete walkway and they are trying to install it with a hammer, which created bends and dings. A whole day went by with them just installing bender board. It was clear to me - at this point - that they had no clue what they were doing. Monday of the next week comes and he proceeds to demand more money than initially agreed and wants me to pay for tools that he rented which i thought he owned. What landscaper has never installed landscape edging or rents simple tools if they do this type of work every day. Additionally, he wants to cut corners and only do a portion of the work for the same amount of money. At this point, I had given Eduardo all but $500 and he refused to do what we agreed. He proceeds to grab his stuff, leave his trash, and left my yard a complete mess. I say this to say, save yourself the trouble and DO NOT hire this so-called landscape crew. They took my money, left my backyard a mess, and didn't finish the project. In addition, they cracked the stucco on my house and dented my downspout. Stay far away from these grifters.

There was another guy who was good, Aaron, who oversaw my biweekly mowing etc. In the past few years, I've had a couple issues. Mainly dying plants due to not being pruned correctly. I would call or email to correct the situation. The one plant species I told them not to touch were my roses. I didn't have faith in their work. Honestly, I should've let them go a year ago. I knew that. Aaron sold his business, and I thought I'd give them a try. Until today.... I came home to my beautiful, and very expensive, roses completely hacked. They were my favorite part of the yard, growing through the white picket fence with the most beautiful blooms. Not anymore. I watched our security cameras and the way they just completely did a hack job on them. My favorite part of my home is now ruined. Don't hire them for anything other than mowing a yard.

Price was reasonable vs the only 1 other bid I received; and Aaron seemed to know what needed to be done. They arrived the next morning and did the repair in a couple of hours. We additionally had some leaky valves I decided to see if he was able to replace - He replaced them that afternoon with higher quality valves. We did have 1 issue several days later with 1 of the new valves leaking. We never pressure tested them the day they were replaced due to the fresh glued joints. So this was first time stressing them. I reported the leak and he arrived the next day and addressed the issue (it was a faulty valve). All fixed and working perfectly. Aaron is awesome & very knowledgeable. They provide an excellent Warranty. And their pricing is very reasonable & competitive. I highly recommend this place for your Irrigation & Landscaping needs.

After three years of living with a backyard full of weeds and gopher holes, we finally decided to…read moregive up the hope of running into the "Yard Crashers" crew at our local home improvement store. We interviewed nearly ten potential landscape contractors for our backyard project. Segundo Collazos, the owner of Amazon's Landscaping, was recommended by a good friend who had hired Segundo and his crew to install irrigation and a flagstone pathway. When Segundo came out to discuss our project, he demonstrated that he has the benefit of many years of construction experience, doing both small and large projects. Our project was a moderately large residential project which involved extensive re-grading of the yard, installation of a French drain alongside the back of the house, construction of a retaining wall along a steep slope, installation and compaction of patio surfaces made of a mix of decomposed granite mixed with mortar, construction of a pergola, extensive irrigation installation, and replacement of a dead patch of lawn. Segundo showed us pictures of work he has done for private homes and for public areas such as some schools in Berkeley. The pictures showed a good attention to detail and his prices were competitive, plus we both had a good feeling about his level of professionalism, so we hired him. We have been very pleased with our decision to hire him for the following reasons... 1) He and his crew take pride in their work. Throughout the duration of the work, they did not take shortcuts. They included all materials and finishes that were agreed upon when we negotiated the work to be done. The quality of their work is very good. 2) When there was a need to make modifications, Segundo showed an ability to think creatively given our budget. For example, we have very high winds and the decomposed granite (DG) he put down as a patio surface was not staying in place initially. As a relatively loose material, it was also attaching to our shoes and tracking into the house, which would have been an annoying issue to deal with over the long term. For a minimal amount of additional expense, Segundo resolved the problem by digging up the patio again, mixing the DG with mortar, and re-compacting it. 3) It is often true that things take somewhat longer than expected with construction projects. In this case, there were two things that required some additional work. The first was the problem with the decomposed granite (DG) being too loose given the strong winds where we live. The second was the presence of large tree roots that were uncovered as he was re-grading the backyard. (We had paid a lot of money to two different tree and root removal companies in the past to remove all the roots from a big tree that used to be in the yard, and clearly in both cases, despite assurances that they had each removed all the roots within one foot of the surface, they did not do the job right). Segundo never complained about having to put in additional work - he showed professionalism and commitment to working on both issues until the problems were resolved. He removed the tree roots that needed to come out to get the surfaces level and he made the patio surface much stronger by mixing the DG with mortar. 4) Segundo has an extensive understanding of various plants and he actually cultivates many beautiful plants such as queen palms, sago palms, a variety of aromatic shrubs, and Japanese maples in his own backyard. He made good recommendations about plants that could work well for our space. He was flexible and took into account our preferences and needs in doing the initial planting of parts of the yard and generously included a gift of three of his own plants that we liked. He installed drip lines to each and every plant and tree that he put in the ground so that they will grow well when set to be watered by an automatic sprinkler timer. 5) Despite some additional challenges that came up during the course of the project, in the end, Segundo came in reasonably close to the budget we agreed to in advance and he guarantees the quality of his work. We do not expect problems in the future given his commitment to doing things the right way the first time, but we know that if there are problems, he will address them. This is the longest review I've submitted to Yelp and in the spirit of letting others know about the best companies to hire, I was inspired to relay information about this consistently positive experience with Segundo Collazos of Amazon's Landscaping. We are also attaching some pictures of the work he did because a picture is worth a thousand words. During a time when many contractors take shortcuts or fail to honor one's budget, he is a real find.

3-Years Review Update:…read more I posted current 2020 pics of our front and backyard landscaping over 3 years old installed by KD Landscaping. As you can see, the total landscape is thriving, looks great and we still get inquires on who did our landscape. Many of our neighbors assumed or thought it was installed by a more popular and prominent Brentwood Landscaping company. I cannot speak for other Khandy customers, this is my personal interaction and observed work of KD Landscaping. Khandy has done at least 12 projects in our community and all still looks great. I wish they would do a review for KD Landscaping, but that's not what they like to do. So I only saw not so good reviews on KD Landscaping website. I sympathize with their experience. Fortunately, our and many more households in our neighborhood experience with KD Landscaping was different. Khandy stands by his work. He replaced 10 plants that didn't survive the very hot Brentwood summer back in 2018. Khandy also came back and fixed a broken sprinkler head 2 years post installation. There are some hairline cracks (3) in cement work that appeared after a year or two but they were at high stress points that cement would tend to break. Could it have been prevented? Maybe. But the cement work is still looks great. I would still recommend KD Landscaping for new and redoing yard landscaping. I would also strongly recommend going through a landscape architect to customize your yard first, then give the blue print to Khandy to follow. That is what we did. His workers are skilled and very hard working. They worked on our yard when the summer temp reached 103F! Communication might be a little challenging, but be patient. Khandy understands what you want. Be sure to get a final complete estimate of work. Payments to KD Landscaping are done the right way. Khandy doesn't ask for 50% upfront without doing a single hour of work. You pay in intervals after each segment of work is complete. You inspect the work and pay the agreed amount if you're satisfied. Give KD Landscaping a call. At least get a quote!

We didn't realize upfront a ton of stuff about the guy- 1.he only works with one guy @ a time, whomever he can pick up from Home Depot that day.2. marginal cement work (photo says it all) 3..he's unaccountable e.g., used the wrong color stain on our fence & never admitted it even after he had to come back & sand it out! /one of his workers broke an irrigation pipe, never told us about it ,Khandy blamed us 4.Khandy lied about how far down he would rototill before planting, lied about putting down compost. We basically had to replant every single thing he planted. He did a pretty good job on the pavers. He has no business doing landscaping.

With just me and my mom holding down the fort, we haven't gotten around to the garden work in several years. Sustainable L&G came for an initial consultation - to scope out the property and to hear what we wanted to do. Logan approximated it would take 1-2 days to tackle the mess of a yard. Two weeks later, Logan and team came to our house and immediately start hacking away at the jungle that was our yard. The team was extremely respectful of our house and the residents. The staff knocked on our door at the end of the day to have us inspect their work to see if we approved/needed anything else. They accommodated all the other wishes my mom had (random tree hacking/bush removal/etc). The process took one whole day and by the end, our property was completely transformed. They left all the trimmings in one part of our drive way to collect the next morning. My one complaint is that they were later than initially stated. However, once I contacted the other owner (Chen) - Logan immediately called me back and set up another time for pick up. Luckily, my day was pretty open and this did not interfere with my day. Logan was very friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. I know that my mom and I will definitely use Sustainable L&G again in the future.

The other companies I've met with usually need precise directions regarding what where and when to plant, they can't seem to recommend much but Logan has a great expertise and experience and actually gives great advise. After talking to him you get a clear picture of how your yard will look not just immediately but in 2-5 years or longer. I really appreciate it.
