I attended 8 weeks of training with my Border Collie. He is a working dog, and I was having trouble with his willingness to disengage. Dani was my trainer. She researched how to help my boy before we started training, so on the first day she came prepared with solutions. For eight weeks, you could see him thinking and paying attention to me rather than to the stock. Now, when I work with him on his stock, he disengages and lies down. We had an absolutely amazing experience sending our Walter to AmericanK9! We did extensive research on our options and felt good about utilizing the board and train option. It isn't easy sending your dog away to work with strangers but they far exceeded our expectations. We definitely hit the jackpot with our trainer, Natalie. Walter had challenges with reactivity and general manners. She went above and beyond to make sure Walter was cared for while also making a huge difference in his behavior. Natalie was communicative with us and really made us feel like we were apart of the process. It was clear that Natalie spent the time getting know Walter and his quirks along the way. We also really value Natalie's perspective on Walter and his experiences in the world. Walter came home with an incredible foundation of training, a love of learning, and more confidence in himself. This is my experience only. I had issues after we had a dog boarded and trained for 3 weeks. After some miscommunication they came thru with follow up lessons. I recommend 1000% Danny the lead trainer. She was patient, nonjudgmental and professional. She helped us gain our confidence and showed us how to better walk our dog. I wanted to jump on here and leave some love, and I apologize for the lengthy post, but it's worth the read It's been a little over 2 years since I brought Layla to American K9 for a board and train. I just have to say the groundwork that they laid with not only my girl but with me has paid off ten fold for the life my girl and I lead I can't go anywhere with Layla and not have someone compliment on how well behaved she is. This could be an on leash adventure to Home Depot, or browsing about at Bass Pro. But the real admirers come out when we're off leash on trails or riding my bike and she's in a "right" command and hugging my side as we pass runners or walkers. As much as I love hearing the compliments, most don't know about the continued work, but this isn't work to us, it's fun and it's leading to a wonderful life together. Training isnt a stationary thing, but an ever moving object that has to be worked on and practiced. My advice to anyone thinking about training even if it's basic lessons, do it. My dog Hank was a true idiot when he was born. He was all over the place and had no direction or discipline ... until we met Natalie DeWitt - aka the best. She transformed this animal into an absolute gem in two focused sessions. We did the first train and board and saw very positive results with his understanding of basic commands and listening to his owners. The real magic was with the second board and train. While we did have an e-Collar at the conclusion of the two weeks, Hank was so disciplined... 100% obedient and learned probably three or four new commands to his total of ten and to the point where we didn't even need the collar. My experience with American K9 was amazing. They delivered results! I made a mistake by not sending my girl to American K9 earlier. I have a 1 year old German Shorthaired Pointer that recently finished a 2 week successful board and train with American K9. If you know anything about this breed you know they are intellectual and affectionate...but also high energy, can be destructive to property and can definitely test your patience. About 1/2 a year ago when she was 6 months, I decided to send her for board and train. I compared all my options, including American K9. I foolishly decided to send my girl to a private trainer instead of American K9 because I believed I was saving some money. This decision did more damage than good, and cost me more in the long run having to correct the improper training. 6 months later I found myself frustrated. I couldn't reap the joys of having a dog. I'm confident my pup was frustrated too. I caved and called Krys at American K9 to save me. Had a consult with Krys, toured the facility, went home and decided to sign-up. My experience while boarding with American K9 was night and day compared to the experience I had w the private trainer. Krys sent updates specifying what the trainer worked on that day and how my girl performed; as well as videos and pictures reflecting progress. Her communication efforts proved to me that my girl was in caring hands. On the day of pickup, I had an hour session with my girl and her assigned trainer Danny. Danny was amazing, and really great at breaking down her instructions for me to take and apply. Very caring toward my dog, you can tell she spent time w her. And I appreciate that! I was amazed at how obedient my dog has become. She doesn't pull anymore; she goes to place, sits/down all on command - She listens! One of my biggest concerns was that she would run away the moment I tried to get her off-leash. Danny got her off-leash!!! My dog and I are communicating - and I'm grateful to American K9 for this. Do not second guess yourself - trust American K9 with your training needs. Don't waste your time and money on other trainers, like I did. Paid 2.5k for two weeks of training. Was forced to buy the ecollar that they use, fine. They swore up and down two weeks we enough time. I worked with them. Total scam. I could have waited a couple months to take to a real program for the same price and not a turn and burn program. kennel looked good for locals. owner and trainers on staff preach the cool aid of two weeks plus little added sessions. will not hold more than a month. my trainer was a young woman, but i blame the ownership. read more

Pro: nice staff, clean facility, daily updates of pet progress, moderate size parking lot. Con: price. We had our golden retriever Apollo for about a year and he was starting to develop bad habits of not listening on walks, biting, and getting into trouble on other people yards. While looking for a solution we came across American K9 on the web and decided to look more into the program. The location for the program was at the crownsville place. Before starting you will meet with the owner to assess your dog and describe what issues you are experiencing. After that we were assign to Nikki and she was the best trainer we could have had hope for. She was very informative, keep in constant communication, and help teach us how to follow up on Apollo training after his 2 week class was over. Apollo today is 95% better today compare to before. The only downside for some people would be the cost. The 2 week class is around 2k but I say the money was well spent for us. All in all, I would recommend anyone who need their dog to be trained to sign up with Nikki because our experience with her has been nothing short of extraordinary. read more

I started my review, very in-depth, which reflected my anger and dismay of this company. However, I decided to tone it down a bit, take out most of the rhetoric focus of the facts, and shorten the post/review. AmericanK9 Company which is a business with the mission of training dogs. This business is located in Crownsville, MD. And now in Prince Frederick MD. I see many people have posted positive reviews, with little to no negative reviews. With this in mind, I will not post on their web page, for they control the content displayed. On a scale of 1 - 10, with ten being the best, I would rate one or low two at best. Facts: I was referred to American K9 by a relative. I called to set up the training. During the interview with Krys and the other trainer, we thought my dog's aggressiveness was that he might have been a retired K9 from some organization. The trainer put on a bite suit to see if the dog would attack; however, my dog did not react. We went over everything from feeding the dog, vaccines, cost, and insurance. Daily progress reports were to be sent, and as well as a few videos of the training, I asked about meeting the requirements of the insurance. I was told they have a veterinarian they can refer too, and also Krys had certifications from many training organizations with a concentration on behavior. Great I signed up and paid for two weeks, and I was given a small discount due to being retired public safety. Huntz, my dog, was dropped off with the required amount of food, and his blanket. After not hearing anything for almost a week, I inquired about the daily progress reports.... Ooops, I was sent a number of them at one time, and a couple of videos. However, as fast as they came, they stopped again. I have to admit I was very impressed with the videos; they had him in front of a large chain-link fence, on the other side was a few other dogs, and Huntz was wagging his tail and in complete control. I believe Hunts enjoyed his 3-week stay, and I was impressed. Pickup, we spent about an hour with Tabitha going over his training and commands. Outstanding instruction. I was informed the follow up would be delayed due to COVID - Understandable. I was told I would be called once they were able to start back up. In the meantime, I texted Krys that I needed the information the insurance required, such as the vet info, and her certifications, I was told when she got to work she would send this information. - Never arrived, and the insurance was declined. So, a few days ago, I started to look to see if anything was posted about their reopening. It appeared as if they had been open for a while, but no phone call or message came. I krys an email, explaining how disappointed I was with not receiving the insurance information, not being notified they were back open, and as well as the incidents before with notifications. She invited me to schedule for the follow-ups. I indicated that too much time had passed for just a follow-up, it is close to 5 months. I can't even begin to explain my appreciation for Natalie and American K9. She took my stubborn, bull headed cane corso and gave him manners. From the initial consultation she took notes on what I was looking for in our training experience and exceeded all my expectations! Not only did she teach him but she took the time to teach me the tools we need to both succeed. I have a much more manageable dog(which is so important given his size). On our follow up consultation, before we arrived she asked me what we were still having issues with and set up the situation so she could help me correct it!
