The staff is nice enough but no one seems to be able to adjust glasses. Plus I wanted a bifocal and got a trifocal. Been a month almost and they didn't call me to tell me the glasses were back. I finally called them today. Of course the glasses are there. I traded in a $189 frame and changed it to a $89 frame and ended up paying $5. They charged for both frames and gave me $100 credit. I've been coming here for the past few years. I don't have vision insurance so I liked the fact that they advertised how much an exam is going to cost. They have a club that you can join; there is a three year option and a five year option. I chose the three-year option for $99. That means that I get two exams a year for three years for free since I joined the club. There are other benefits like free glaucoma testing and 10% off glasses. I already had a pair of frames that I bought online, so if you do decide to bring your own pair of frames, I would call the office first because they have a list of designers that they can't put lenses in for some reason or another. Like they can't put lenses in Dior or Gucci frames, I don't know why but apparently it's a new thing. Luckily, the Burberry frames I bought weren't on the list but a lot of the other European brands are. read more

Bought regular as well as sunglasses, at Bloomington Indiana. The regular pair has the bifocal a bit off, the sunglasses were so bad they re-made them, Still looks like I am looking through a fish eye. I plan to demand a refund on the sunglasses (happen to be the most expensive) Have used for a few years but will NEVER buy there again. read more

The staff was super nice but they could not find a way to make things run smoothly for a simple eye exam. I was given an eye exam and it wasn't until the end that they asked if I had contacts in, which I did. I also asked for an eye exam for contacts and they gave me an eye exam for glasses and had me leave without any trial contacts. I don't usually write reviews but this just has to be known. Literally the worst service I have ever experienced at an eye glasses store. The most unprofessional workers. I was there for 2 hours when I should've been out in 45 minutes. While I was there, a worker was screaming at an old lady, and another worker left because her shift was over while she was in the middle of a conversation with a customer. Staff is extremeltly rude. Every time I have visited this establishment, a staff member has been rude towards me. I once had to have my glasses adjusted and they couldn't fix them correctly until the 5th try and the lady was so frusterated and said, "Uh, I don't have time for this!" Are you kidding me? You done have time to do your job? America's Best has great prices but their staff lacks good customer service skills. After this last experience, I will not be back for new glasses. The service was ok, but I bought two pairs of glasses here and they both broke within a year. The first pair broke as I was taking them off and one of the arms just fell off. The second pair, which I was using as a backup pair, broke in half as I took them off and tried to clean them. I'm not sure if it's a brand issue or a store issue. I'm assuming it's a store issue because I bought both pairs from the store. Either way, I can't recommend buying glasses from this store. read more

I was in there today (02/22/14) for a Contacts and Glasses Exam. I have worn contacts/glasses for the past 15 years of my life and have had my fair share of interactions with eye centers. Not sure who the previous commenter was referring to on anything that was commented on, but here is my brief evaluation of my whole experience. I made an appointment at the last minute (2 hours beforehand) and was very pleased with the professionalism of the lady at the front counter, not only when I called in, but when I arrived. I was then prompted to fill out paperwork, quickly seen by the tech and Immediately seen by the Doctor. The doctor, as well as Everyone in the office, was very professional, friendly and understanding. At no time was anything ever pushed on me (to buy or not buy) and I honestly felt like a valued customer, which does not come with the visit everywhere you go. Overall I would rank this visit/experience near the top of all eye appointment experiences I have ever had. This was All a first impression for me and I cannot say I was displeased in any way. If I could rate no stars I would, I have had multiple issues the employees are extremely rude, I had to go in four times before they got my prescription wrong again.... when I went in to get contacts they gave me the wrong prescription strength then when I went back in to show them the receipt and what they had given me they argued with me I should have noticed what!? I did notice but when I bought them the employee told me that's what the doctor had written down but why does my actual prescription I have from them say something different? A huge mess! I paid for the three year membership but they can keep that money and shove it up their a**, my eyes are more important and I cannot trust their services any longer. read more

I am very disappointed in this particular location. I have been to others in the past and the customer service and patient care was outstanding. The day I went into my appointment, thankfully the doctor was good. But the rest of the staff was unprofessional and disorganized. At the the time of my appointment I choose not to write a review. But after today I feel differently. After calling the bloomington location to obtain a copy of my prescription and was unsuccesful because according to the women I spoke to it can either be picked up or fax. I explained I don't have acces to a fax and currently taking care of my son alone. While my husband is in Iraq. So taking at 14 month baby out at this time isn't the safest for me or him. So I ask for other options. The women said there were no other options. I tried to explain my situation but she continued to refuse. Given the cirmstance of COVID-19, I would expect such well know company such America's best to be willing to work with their patients. It is clearly they aren't. Once i get my glasses and my 3 years of exams is up.... im never coming back here. I paid for my eye glassses out pocket and was told 5-7 days for my glasses to arrive. My trial contacts arent correct because my vision is blurry. And i still have to recieve any glasses. Now 9 days later. Im very angry and not pleased with this place. I cannot see!!!!!!! My recent experience of getting an eye exam and choosing new glasses at America's Best on Bloomington's west side was much better than I expected from reading the review left by a customer in October 2013. The store as a whole is very spacious and airy, with lots of natural light. I was courteously greeted when I entered the shop, and noticed that an associate hung back while watching me browse the frames. I had earlier made an appointment by phone, and had about fifteen minutes to browse before the appointment time. Once I was ready for help, the associate was right there. I appreciated being left alone to browse, but then having someone ready to help me when I needed. "Susie" helped me narrow down my choice of frames, then set aside my choices for me while I had my exam. The exam itself was very thorough and efficient. The exam facility and instruments were spotless and quite roomy compared to other optical businesses. Dr. Koerner took extra time to answer my questions about bifocal and progressive lenses, this being the first time I would need them (I'm 46). I was made to feel relaxed and comfortable throughout the process. Back with Susie after the exam, we priced out the frames I had chosen with various lens options. Susie did a fine job of explaining my options, and of trying to find ways to save me money on my glasses. She spent quite a bit of time with me, and I never felt rushed or pressured as we worked together. Susie made a point of asking about my vision insurance, and even provided me with the appropriate forms and copies of my paperwork to file. While my initial visit to America's Best was close to perfect the proof, as they say, is in the pudding. My new, progressive glasses and sunglasses will be ready within two weeks, and I plan to update this review based on my experience with the finished products at that time. read more

I'm gonna be the one to say that everytime I come here, I am impressed.I have had my last couple pairs of glasses from here (One regular use and one for using my computer with) and they have held up well. I have never had a pair break on me. It is my opinion that careless and heavy handling are the causes of glasses breaking. Also, their customer service has always been good for me. This time around, we decided to get a pair of regular glasses and sunglasses and we are not disappointed. In about a week, we got the call our glasses were in and we love them. NEVER NEVER NEVER go to America's Best Eyecare in Bloomington Indiana!! 2 exams, they never got the prescription correct, They argued that I didn't know what I was talking about when I said I couldn't see properly out of the glasses (because clearly they knew my eyes better than I did ), and when I asked for a refund on the glasses (because they were WRONG!) They KEPT $45 - even though the second exam was insisted upon by them, and the Rx was completely different from the first (Which obviously meant the first exam was wrong)... and obviously the second exam was wrong too, since it felt like I was wearing magnifying glasses when I put them on. But they kept the money, because "free exam with purchase of glasses." I BOUGHT GLASSES! I WANTED GLASSES! It is not my fault they couldn't get them correct! I will be calling corporate Monday. Save yourself the hassle and the MONEY and GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! And after 3 weeks of dealing with them I *STILL* don't have glasses! GRR! UPDATE 5/9: I just got glasses from Ossip. Guess what? I could see out of my glasses comfortably from the moment I put them on! Just like it is supposed to be! To clarify my point again: my eyes did NOT "need time to adjust to the prescription; Americas Best simply could not get my prescription correct either time they tried, and they just didn't want to give me a refund. Again I say, do not go here! 4/5: I will update based on the response from the business below. Yes, after corporate agreed that the Bloomington branch not giving me a full refund was unacceptable after two attempts still did not produce the correct prescription, *they* gave me the refund. This, of course, has nothing to do with the fact that The Bloomington office insisted that their doctors could not have made a mistake (even though they clearly did at least once, since the prescription I got the second time was completely different than the first), and that My assertion that I could not see out of the glasses either time they were made was somehow a failing on my part. The Bloomington office's attempt to keep the $45 as almost a sort of punishment for not buying glasses through which I could not see (even after sending them back) is still a very good reason to never give your business to the Bloomington America's Best branch. The worst. Cheap for a reason. Run by two optometrists, staffed mostly by children. I purchased three pairs even spent extra and they were all junk. Poor quality scratched easily. The pair I bought after the initial included 2, valued at 260 bucks, had to be replaced within 60 days. Then the frames broke within a other couple of months. Went here to get a couple of pairs of inexpensive reading glasses. I had a thorough eye exam and the doctor was super nice. I stated from the beginning what I planned to spend and this was respected. My lenses have become scratched making my vision painful. I went back later for help at which time she suggested I buy and use their eyeglass cleaner and was given a free America's Best cleaning cloth, which seemed helpful. Well it did not help and when I returned she said I was not cleaning the anti glare area correctly and did the damage. I told her that I was never informed (the two times I came) that it took a special technique. I've been wearing glasses for decades and never had this problem. She also claimed that I was not telling the truth and could have never been given a free cloth. I honestly expected to be treated kind and considerate not aggressively. It had been a long time since I went to the eye doctor. After my examination, I wondered why I waited. The doctor took his time with me and seemed genuinely concerned about my eye health. I like that I was given time to pick out the right frames for myself and not pressured to buy a certain brand.
