A big thank-you to Cliff of Cotati Amerigas who got up early on Saturday morning (after Christmas) to cheerfully bring us an emergency supply of propane to get us though until the tank truck could arrive. He helps reinforce my faith in humanity. A bit NO thank-you to whatever mechanism caused Amerigas to NOT deliver propane after I told them a week ago that we were low. This very positive experience contrasted with the negative experience leave me wondering if we will re-up with Amerigas when our contract ends. If we could give them a zero we would. We paid a bill in march 2026, in June we received a letter from a Collection Agent. We also got phone calls and texts. It took 3 weeks to resolve this plus hours on the phone. There is alway at least a 45 minute wait befroe you can talk anyone. Had to go to the resolution dept., plus the Collection agent is linked to Amerigas and they are the ultimate most nasty people out there. Finally getting rid of the bad taste and they picked up the tank today. So one more price gauge as they will bill us to pick up the tank and add another fee for sending someone out here. Called to tell Amerigas rented tank provider of a possible smell at my old rusted rented tank. The phone lady warned of a possible repair bill...even though it isnt my tank. I asked her to forget it then and not go out as I was insured if it blew up anyway. Well, they went out anyway, after I asked them not too.. They aggressively billed me $409. I am 70 years old. Had that rusty old rented tank for over 12 years. Sooooo, be aware. If you report a leak on their tank...you will be billed aggressively. I have never been late on a bill in all my years of overpaying and begging to even get a delivery. They deliver when they feel like it. And the corporate person can be quite nasty. DO NOT USE AMERIGAS! DO NOT USE AMERIGAS! DO NOT USE AMERIGAS! They keep billing me years after I cancelled the account even though I don't owe them. I first got Amerigas after Ferrellgas went completely downhill. At first they were quite good, then completely collapsed. My tenant first cancelled them when she could not get good service. I quickly followed suit. That was in August 2021. Amerigas left both of their tanks here for two years, despite my calling numerous times asking they be removed. Now, for the last few months, they keep billing me---and they keep adding late fees. I've called three times in the past and they admitted the billing was an error and said they would fix it. Then they keep billing me. Today I called them 8 times. 5 times I got through to someone (it sounded like they were in India or the Philippines or something). I explained the whole thing--- account number, name, address, email address, zip code, telephone number--- over and over and over. Each time they said they would connect me to someone. Each time the line then went dead. (Well, twice it went directly to their customer satisfaction survey--- was I satisfied? Then it went dead.) 2 times the line just went dead before anyone picked up. 1 time it went directly to their customer satisfaction survey. One of the times I asked if I could get a number for the local office. "No" - was the answer. "That is not possible". After the third call I stopped yelling at the computer that makes you go through all their choices before they connect you to someone in India who will then transfer you to a dead line. I realized it was just making it longer before they would transfer me to someone who would transfer me to a dead line so that I could call back and start over. They lure you in with a new customer discount and don't tell you about the additional fees (Haz-mat fee, Fuel recovery fee, Paper invoice fee) They also want you to e-consent to sign service document that has a box checked by them that states automatic service where they come by anytime they want to top you off (NOT- I don't think so and never agreed to this box being checked so we did not sign.) I got a text that delivery will take place within 5-7 days. It's now 12-23-22, i have called EVERY DAY THIS WEEK- been told every day that they are expediting the delivery, someone will be there within 24 hours. Been told that yet again today - yet no one shows. They have no one to answer to and when I call other gas companies, they won't deliver gas into another company's tank. I've been with Amerigas for 5 years, I inherited their tank when I purchased my home. I have automatic deliveries and pay the bills online, everything has been fine until I came home to a house full of propane odorant with the pilot out on my wall heater. My tank was bone dry. I have no idea how this occurred, I still don't, but I called for an expedited delivery of propane as the overnight temperatures had been in the low 30's. A week later a delivery was made but my tank had been locked off. I now understand the safety reasons for this but no one at Amerigas explained if I had an empty tank that the someone would need to check for leaks before turning on the service. Had I known this I would have made sure I was home but I didn't have an appointment, the delivery guy randomly showed up. I called Amerigas in tears for an appointment and was told it would be another week out. I cancelled that appointment and requested an emergency appointment due to the cold temps and that propane is my only source of heat...I still haven't heard back from them. I completely lost confidence in Amerigas, so I went with McPhail's, a local company that's been in business here for 100 years, who promptly delivered a new tank and had me back in business. I've never had such poor customer service and communication with a utility company or any company, for that matter. I don't know what's going on with Amerigas in Sonoma County but if they're spread too thin too offer customers basic services within a timely manner, especially during the winter months, they should pull out of the market. There are so many better, local, options in Sonoma County. Over the last 2 weeks I've used space heaters for heat, not looking forward to the electric bill, but what if I had small children or was ill? Amerigas just doesn't care about their customers. 1. AmeriGas is ripping off its customers by charging a hazmat fee for each tank refill. The employee in charge of delivery does not take any additional safety measures nor does he utilize any one-time use safety equipment. Other companies do not charge a hazmat fee. 2. The AmeriGas call center is based in India or Pakistan. My calls for help were useless and these so-called call center employees have no idea about how to solve issues in America. Currently there is no way we call request a call from an employee based in the USA. 3. The AmeriGas website is set in such a way that when we are logged in onto our account we had no way of declining automatic deliveries. This is a clear tactic from AmeriGas to create additional deliveries (i.e. revenues) before a tank really needs a refill. While these predatory tactics may generate additional revenue in the sort term for AmeriGas, the impact on this company's reputation is considerable. The fact that AmeriGas is requesting reviews and states that they will "put together" some presumably positive reviews speaks to its need to shore up its reputation. Currently renting, called to get it filled up, wouldn't give me a time ended up running out of gas. They told me they were going to put a monitor to tell me when to order gas again i said great won't have this problem again. Never put the monitor on ran out of gas again can't give me a time frame when they are going to come. waited the 7 days for the gas to come they said still can't give me a time frame. so here i am on the coldest day of the year so far no heat haven't been able to take a shower in over a week. Given the hundreds of bad reviews, I doubt this will have any effect but I feel compelled to write this review to warn anyone from ever considering using AmeriGas. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SERVICE. There isn't anyone local (I'm in Healdsburg) to talk to. If you call the 707 number you still get a call center located who-knows-where with a person who has no idea what is going on and can't do anything for you. I'm switching to McPhail's where you can talk to a real person who is in the area and actually knows what's happening. Amerigas seems to be going out of business so RUN AWAY. Do not wait until you need help as you won't get it. More details on my experience: I ran out of propane late last year and after being without heat for 3 days they finally showed up unannounced. The issue (besides my tenants being cold for 3 days) was that since I ran out, someone needed to be there to allow them to do a check of the pilot lights. But since they didn't call before they came, no one was there. I asked the driver to wait and my property manager left work to come over so he could do the check. But the driver didn't wait and refused to stop when she tried to flag him down when she saw him leaving. After many calls and a day later someone finally came out and turned it back on. Now it's a few months later and I check the tank and the gauge and it says it's at 5% (the lowest the gauge goes). I log in and see that a delivery was scheduled on Jan. 27th but it's now Feb. 18 (Saturday) and no delivery yet. I call and get the call center who change it to an expedited 1-day delivery. Still nothing by the end of the day on Monday so I call again. All I get is "we're sorry, we're working on it, we're short-staffed", etc. I tried to get transferred to a supervisor and waited on hold for 20 minutes FOUR TIMES only to have the call dropped (by them). Finally, on Tuesday they make it an emergency delivery. We wake up Wednesday morning with no propane and 35 degrees outside so no heat. They finally delivered Wednesday afternoon, 4 days after I called and almost 4 weeks after they claimed to have scheduled a delivery! DO NOT USE AMERIGAS. read more

After several years of using Amerigas with several issues, I have changed services. They no longer have a walk-in office (They say due to covid) and their overseas call center is absolutely useless. I have made 4 attempts to resolve the current issue (delivery and charging the wrong account). I have been unable to reach anyone that can comprehend their error nor resolve the issue. I have made several requests to speak with someone stateside only to be disconnected or sent back into a message tree. This after being placed on hold for 15 to 20 minutes. We became aware that we had run out of propane at 1:00am. There was no one available at Amerigas by phone (and this was not an emergency.) I sent them an email reporting that I urgently needed a propane delivery. At 7:30am (six and a half hours later) Amerigas was knocking at my door to make a delivery! The driver relit the stove and water heater (it took him almost an hour to get them relit.) We've used Amerigas for over 20 years and have never had anything but quick, efficient and courteous service from them. read more

Absolutely horrible service. I spoke with 2 agents via phone....only to have calls dropped. I was told by one agent that my pressure check fee would be removed. I then got incorrect invoices showing additional propane deliveries On the third call, the agent refused to honor the fee removal. They are charging me to check their OWN EQUIPMENT that is already in use. They are ROBBING CUSTOMERS. But the tank is full so I'm stuck with them until the next fill-up so they don't care. The Service by AmeriGas is despicable. No stars. My 92 yr. old stepfather was supposed to get a deliver of propane on 11/12. It is now 12/27. Many phone calls to its poor customer service have been for nothing. I have spent hours on the phone with them only to be told lies. We have driven by the Cotati office to find it locked. Meanwhile my stepfather is needing to warm his house a little bit by the fireplace and cook on the wood burning stove. They say that our calls have been escalated. To whom? I want to give less than 1 star! Like others, we are in our 70s, have been "automatic refill" customers for years, always paid our bill. We have been totally out of propane more than 3 weeks now. If I could I would give a negative 10 stars to AmeriGas. I understand that there are issues in Guerneville after the flooding. But it has been over a week and we are still without propane. The office told us that since our propane tank was on its side, there was a safety issue and someone should be out the same day. No one showed.... we were told that the roads were not safe. This was even though we saw trucks from 4 other local propane providers. Finally we were told that we would have our service restored between 8 and noon today. Well it is after 1 and still not a sign of the service folks. Now we are being told that they will be out today. Why do I not believe them?? Is it because they have told us before that we would have same day service. The recording on their phone line while waiting for a person to answer tells me that safety and customer service are their number one concerns. Do not believe it. That is a joke. amerigas has been our gas company for at least 15 years. we are not happy at all. we are currently waiting since Feb. 8, 2023 for service. We are now out of gas as of yesterday. we are using a barbecue tank to keep warm. How much pain one suffers without heat, hot water and not able to cook because your gas delivery guy hasn't delivered your gas is overwhelming. We called many times, this company lied to us everyday saying they were coming. Our house was down to 53 degrees. Pretty sad that two 70 years olds, in their house have to sleep in their coats and hat at night. Absolutely the worst gas company if not the worst retail business I've ever dealt with. We signed up for new service on Oct 16 and have yet to see a gas delivery. Called everyday for the last 2 weeks and spent literally hours on the phone. When I did get someone they either were helpless to help, I was disconnected or I was promised a call back from a "manager" which never happened. When they missed a confirmed propane delivery (yet again) in the dead of winter, the Customer Service representative said "We did make an attempt to deliver today" Since I have cameras on my front driveway I rolled the tape....No truck came anywhere near my property... They then told me "When we say we made an attempted delivery that does not mean we ever came near your house or even came on your street" It just means we added your residence to a list that we might possibly get to. The definition of "Attempt" means Taking real Action to achieve something difficult ....They make no effort whatsoever and yet call it an "attempted delivery". Amazon Prime can tell you when a $1.00 box of q-tips is sheduled to arrive at your door. Amerigas CANNOT tell you WITHIN 10 days when a PREPAID thousand dollar shipment of PROPANE, needed for winter heat is scheduled to arrive. They need 10 full days to schedule a delivery and can give you zero update during these ten days of when delivery may actually occur. How ridiculously inept. If you want to repeat your name, account number, phone number, and email a hundred times and have someone with an impossible heavy accent read it back to you a hundred times ...then call their customer service dept. and get transferred around and around because thats all they do in what they laughingly call "customer service." I have a 4 year old in my home, its no more than 45 degrees outside, and when i paid my tank was at around 30%. My order has been expedited constantly for the past week. Amazing how they feel that having a small child in your home is not a PRIORITY... i wonder if my 80 year old mother was trying to stay warm with propane, would that be a priority to get some damn service? Less than zero stars. I called on Thursday morning the 14th at around 9 AM to report an empty gas tank. 0%. Absolutely no propane left. The woman on the phone help me to set up an account (I bought my house last February from the previous owners who had an established account). She said someone would call me in the next 24 hours. They didn't. I called back on Friday and they representative said "I will document this as an emergency." He then proceeded to ask me if I'd like someone to come out the same day, or the following morning. I am a nightshift cardiovascular ICU nurse and I had to sleep for my shift. I told him "tomorrow (Saturday) is fine."The earlier the better. He assured me not to worry, that someone would be out first thing. Saturday morning, no one showed. By 11 AM I had received no communication, so I called back and asked to speak to a supervisor. I will always remember his name because he was the WORST. James, if that's even his real name. James told me that they didn't have any available deliveries until 8/4. That was more than TWO WEEKS away. He also told me "this is a new account and we have a process." This is NOT a new account, just a new owner. Amerigas has been delivering to my address for YEARS, most recently in Feb of 2021. When my voice began to crack from how upset the thought of not having ANY hot water or gas for more than TWO WEEKS, James insulted me even further. He interrogated me. "You're a nurse, right?" He asked smugly. "If you had 10 patients to take care of, you're not going to put one patient over all the others, right?" WRONG. I don't need to begin to tell you people how I do my job. But I WILL say that I tend to the people who need me the MOST, FIRST. If I don't, they DIE. I am supposed to have my tank automatically refilled when it reaches 30%. I am at ZERO. It's now Monday the 18th and I still haven't heard from anyone. I am disgusted and appalled by the customer service tactics James used that day. I will be taking my business elsewhere and sharing my story and making my voice heard in as many ways as I possibly can. I lost sleep over this, waiting for someone to show up or call. Do not signup for service unless you don't care if/when you get propane. Their Cotati branch is incapable of filling demand and their phone help has no access to drivers or dispatch. I spent 2 weeks trying to get them to deliver and their friendly phone service said "yep - it's out for delivery today" and then says "oops driver ran out of gas" when I ask why nobody showed. The service desk staffer finally admitted she has no access to drivers and suggested I get online and write a bad review. I'm not sure I've ever had that happen before... read more

Autodelivery does not work, as they let you run out of propane. They do not respect their promised delivery dates, and do not contact you to reschedule missed deliveries. They charge way above the local propane rate. Pretty sure they lie about how much propane is actually delivered. I've been contacting them for the last month, letting them know I am almost out. 3 delivery times have been missed, and I am now out of propane, in a cold house with no hot water or way to cook food. I have a new delivery date, that I do not trust, and have been informed that they plan on charging me to relight pilot lights! read more
